Electronic Explorations returns with Happa and Manni Dee

The UK techno young guns team up for new Habits of Hate project on Rob Booth’s label.

Having made the transition from long-running and respected podcast to record label in illustrious fashion with a bountiful digital compilation, Rob Booth’s Electronic Explorations has since taken something of a back seat to his role as head of A&R at Houndstooth Recordings. A subsequent 12″ sampler for Electronics Explorations compilation inaugurated the label’s step into the vinyl market and was followed late last year by Transmuter, a four track EP from DeFeKT that, as Richard Brophy stated, highlighted the Dublin-based producer’s talent for “being versatile enough to cover a range of sounds but without losing sight of his own identity.”

Details have now surfaced of the third release on Electronic Explorations, which sees the label switch up focus to the ever-bubbling pool of rising UK techno talent, introducing the Habits Of Hate project from Happa and Manni Dee. Happa (pictured above) is of course the annoyingly young producer who came to the fore off the back of a Four Tet remix and some staunch support from Mary Anne Hobbs, racking up releases on Boomkat Editions and Bleep’s Green Series. Manni Dee is perhaps the less celebrated, but more prolific, hitting his production stride last year with 12″s for Black Sun, 2nd Drop and Shades. Apparently the Habits Of Hate project was borne out of “swapping tunes and discovering a shared spirit of pushing dancefloors to previously uncharted limits” and this translates to the forthcoming two track 12″ which the label describes as “brutalist techno” that “just might be both artists’ most gleefully punishing work to date”.

Electronic Explorations will release EE:V:003 by Habits of Hate on April 28.
