The Brothers Lauer team up on Live At Robert Johnson

Phillip and Jacob to grace the Frankfurt institution under the Hotel Lauer guise. 

Should you think of Phillip Lauer, Live At Robert Johnson is probably one of the labels you would immediately associate with the German producer, along with the likes of Gerd Janson’s Running Back, Permanent Vacation and Beats In Space. Lauer has been associated with the Frankfurt label over the years in his various guises, memorably serving up one of the best contributions to their mix CD series as Arto Mwambe alongside Christian Beißwenger. Indeed, despite the German producer cultivating a strong solo career over the course of the past fifteen years, it’s difficult not to think of Lauer’s collaborative endeavours with the Tuff City Kids project with Janson really developing in recent times.

A new joint venture from Lauer is due for release on Live At Robert Johnson in April, and it sees the hirsute German team up with his lesser celebrated brother Jacob for the first time. No stranger to the Frankfurt club, Jacob Lauer regularly spins at Robert Johnson as part of Brontosaurus Junior Club along with Timo Wiegand, though has little prior production experience according to the Juno Plus research department. Phillip and Jacob’s work together falls under the Hotel Lauer banner and debuts with the three track Brudis EP with an amusingly framed press release setting the scene.

“On a rainy late September day in the mid eighties, 7 year old Phillip Lauer didn’t know what to expect from that little new born G, who was referred to as his brother Jacob. On the other hand, Baby Jacob wasn’t very sure of what to make of this – back then still sporty – youngster either, who behaved like his boss. To make a short story long… it took them almost 30 years to finally find out – behind the helm of the infamous Pyramide 2 Studio when conducting this fine piece of home made dance music: the Brudis EP.”
