Listen to Pev take on Strategy for Idle Hands

Bristol meets Portland as the Punch Drunk boss remixes Strategy’s forthcoming release on the label.

The next release from Bristol’s finest record store turned label will come from US producer Strategy. Although the Portland based producer has released on a bewildering array of labels over the past 10 years, it is perhaps his more recent releases for Endless Flight and 100% Silk that would have introduced him into the wider consciousness, melding hardware house music with dubbier textures to unique effect. His forthcoming appearance on Idle Hands sees him tapping more explicitly into the latter element, with “Return From The Stars” sounding like an outsider’s take on Bristol’s rich soundsystem culture.

It makes sense therefore that Idle Hands have tapped up one of the city’s most foremost producers reassembling dub into new forms to remix the track, with Peverelist creating his own “Jerky” remix of the track for the B-side. Stripping the original down to its bare essentials, its radiophonic gurgles and elongated reverb trails sounds closer to his classic dub-influenced Punch Drunk tracks 12″s than his recent Livity Sound output. Both tracks can be listened to below ahead of the record’s release on vinyl and digital formats on October 14.
