Carter Tutti inspired by metal lampshades on Coolicon
The first Carter Tutti single in some 15 years arrives next month – sample the monolithic delights of “Coolicon” here.
Chris Carter and Cosey Fanni Tutti return to the project after their recent focus on the Carter Tutti Void project with Factory Floor’s Nik Void and the Desertshore project. Arriving with a title inspired by the name of the metal lampshade used by Delia Derbyshire in her music-making, Coolicon comes with two versions of the one track spread across a ten inch, and looks to be a fine exercise in lurching, industrial body music on the evidence of the edited version streaming below.
Speaking with The Quietus today, the duo reveal that the UFO shaped lampshade proved to be a useful sampling tool, with Carter stating” We hadn’t done anything with it for ages, and it wasn’t in the single at the beginning, but then we spent a day sampling Cosey playing it with different instruments, bowing it and tapping it, blowing through it.”
Coolicon will be self released by Carter Tutti on May 20.
