Listen: Nik Void, Gabe Gurnsey & Peter Gordon – Beachcombing
Nik Void and Gabe Gurnsey of industrial synth outfit Factory Floor have collaborated with cult New York composer and saxophonist Peter Gordon.
Gordon, the subject of an excellent DFA retrospective collecting his avant-garde disco productions of the 70s and 80s, may seem like an unlikely artist to collaborate with the pair, but “Beachcombing”, which can be viewed above, shows them to be an excellent match. The delicate composition swaps the industrial textures of Factory Floor for kosmische trance, with Nik Void’s unmistakable vocals and metallic textures providing a perfect foil for Gordon’s stray saxophone notes.
The track, initially revealed by Void in a Juno Plus interview earlier this year, will supposedly be released on a forthcoming Optimo Music 12″, which will also feature a collaboration between Gordon and Factory Floor’s other member Dominic Butler on the reverse, though no release date has yet been announced.
Factory Floor and Gordon will also be showcasing their collaboration live on Saturday, September 15 at London’s ICA as part of the Soundworks weekend, where Factory Floor will curate four events. Tickets cost £8 and are available from the ICA website.
