Juno Plus Podcast 01: FCL

Belgian deep house dons FCL drop the first Juno Plus podcast, a vinyl-only mix that comes filled with a fair share of unreleased We Play House heat.

The WPH imprint was launched by Red D – real name Bart Van Neste – in 2008, and enjoyed a watershed 12 months in 2010, with releases from FCL (aka Red D and San Soda), Raoul Lambert, Tyree Cooper, Maxim Lany and San Soda in solo mode. Bart told us the mix aimed to “reflect what we play live, but from a home listening point of view”.

“The tempo is a bit slower, although live we also like to take it down, we are not really in for the ‘bouncing mindlessly on the dancefloor to what would be boring music without drugs’-vibe.

“We like to really build nights, and starting around 110 bpm and finishing around 120 bpm is exactly how we love to play. It’s all about making love!”

The releases look set to keep coming thick and fast – up next is WPH 011 by Sebastien San with a San Soda remix, followed by a WPH Yellow 12″ by Japanese producer Humandrone, the latest addition to family. There’s also a new FCL EP in the pipeline, as well as a new series called ‘Red D Meets…’, the first one including collaborations with Lemakuhlar and Social Disco Club; after that we can expect a new San Soda EP. London’s clubbing cognoscenti can expect to hear some of these tracks and more at this weekend’s MMM bash starring San Soda – we’ll be there and we suggest you pop along too.

Back in Belgium, the FCL chaps have launched their own club night which cleverly extinguishes any threat of going stale on the house music tip. It’s called, yep, We Play Anything But House, and Bart explains that he and San Soda team up with friends to play “soul, funk, hip-hop, pop, whatever…anything but house”.

“It’s a bar night where our friends can come hang out, get drunk and listen to good music. Sometimes the best things in life are simple as that.” We couldn’t agree more.
