Juno Plus: New Year’s party picks

With Christmas out of the way for another year, the clubbing cognoscenti are casting seductive glances in the general direction of this weekend. With New Year’s Eve 2010 kind enough to fall on a Friday, many a diary will be bulging with options for the big night (and the night after that, and the night after that).

As expected, London-based revellers will see an almost ridiculous amount of talent arriving in the capital for the weekend for both Friday and Saturday. New Year’s Day promises to be the usual potpourri of bleary eyed ravers who haven’t slept for two days and fresh-looking club heads who are just getting started, and a number of London’s more discerning promoters have catered for this crowd nicely.

In case this all seems a bit much, we’ve selected our favourite parties taking place across Europe this New Year’s weekend – from London to Berlin via Glasgow, Amsterdam, Manchester and Bristol – and given you the lowdown on all of them.

New Year’s Eve:

Secretsundaze: Red Gallery, London
Line-up: Chez Damier, Space Dimension Controller, John Daly
Cost: £24.50
Juno Plus verdict: Nice line-up at a killer location in East London, with house don Chez Damier supported by Belfast wunderkid Space Dimension Controller and Irish producer John Daly (no relation to his portly alcoholic golfing namesake).

Trouble Vision vs Deadly Rhythm: Corsica Studios, London
Line-up: Four Tet, James Holden, Jamie XX, Nathan Fake, Dark Sky, Midland, Braiden
Cost: £20-30
Juno Plus verdict: Border Community impresario Jame Holden is joined by contemporaries Four Tet, Nathan Fake and Jamie XX. Promises to be an eclectic night of music.

NYE Spectacular: Horse & Groom, London
Line-up: Ray Mang, Rob Mello
Cost: £10
Juno Plus verdict: East London’s best disco boozer plays host to the Disco 45 chaps. And at just a tenner, it presents good value for anyone who wants to keep a lid on the finances before the real fun begins on New Year’s Day.

Theo Parrish: Plastic People, London
Line-up: Theo Parrish (all night)
Cost: £20
Juno Plus verdict: Theo returns to his favourite London basement for a night of the man doing what he does best. Enough said really.

In:Motion: Motion Skate Park, Bristol
Line-up: Untold, Julio Bashmore, Joker, Jamie Jones
Cost: £25
Juno Plus verdict: Bristolian boys Julio Bashmore and Joker are joined by Hemlock boss Untold for an evening of future tinged bass n house.

Sub Club New Years Eve with Lil’ Louis & Radio Slave: Sub Club, Glasgow
Line-up: Lil Louis, Radio Slave
Cost: £15
Juno Plus verdict: “Miss Thang, there is no guestlist tonight!” The chance to hear Lil Louis drop “Club Lonely” on New Year’s Eve must be pretty damn tempting for house aficionados in Glasgow. The addition of Radio Slave to the bill makes this our pick of the bunch in Scotland’s clubbing hotspot.

Klubnacht Total Silverster: Berghain/Panorama Bar, Berlin
Line-up: Dixon, Chris Liebing, Ben Klock, Jerome Sydenham, Marcel Dettmann, Adam Beyer
Cost: €24/€26
Juno Plus verdict: If you go to this party on New Year’s Eve, chances are you won’t leave until 2011 is well underway. A muscular line-up includes pretty much the entire Berghain/Panorama ensemble of residents plus a sprinkling of high profile guests including Innervisions boss Dixon, Chris Liebing, Adam Beyer and more. Expect things to get messy.

Tweeduizendtrouw: Trouw, Amsterdam
Line-up: DJ Koze, The Mole, Melon
Cost: €35
Juno Plus verdict: Our favourite Dutch venue plays host to a four hour set from eccentric producer DJ Koze, ably supported by Wagon Repair’s The Mole.

New Year’s Day:

Love Fever: The Nest, London
Line-up: Motor City Drum Ensemble, Wbeeza, Bicep & more TBA
Cost: £10
Juno Plus verdict: Twelve hour sleazefest in Dalston curated by our favourite London party starters. Expect things to remain deep yet danceable, with MCDE to be joined by a host of big names who can’t be announced just yet.

Warehouse Project closing party: Beneath Piccadilly Station, Manchester
Line-up: Dubfire, Derrick Carter, Jamie Jones, Damian Lazarus, Cassy, Soul Clap
Cost: £20
Juno Plus verdict: Massive lineup to round off another fine season for the Warehouse Project, with Damian Lazarus taking the Crosstown Rebels chopper from London’s Eastern Electrics party to play alongside some big names.

Hybridlife NYD Showcase: Venue TBA, London
Line-up: Levon Vincent, dOP
Cost: £15
Juno Plus verdict: The Hybridlife crew can always be relied upon to curate a good line-up, and this is no exception. Expect our man Levon to be packing some tough house and techno, while Parisian pranksters dOP are a class act live.

Still Standing? January 2:

The Archives #1: Suicide Circus, Berlin
Line-up: Sandwell District, Function, Regis, Ancient Methods
Cost: €10
Juno Plus verdict: Golf claps to anyone who is still standing come 10pm Sunday evening. We expect a few hardy souls to spill out of Chris Liebing’s set at Berghain and head straight to this event, with Regis and Function aka Sandwell District (pictured above) chairing proceedings at Suicide Circus.
