Soul Jazz drop some Riddims

Soul Jazz’s love affair with UK bass music continues with their upcoming compilation entitled Riddim Box: Excursions In The UK Funky Underground.

Following swiftly on the heels of their lauded Future Bass opus – which we glowingly reviewed here – the double CD set features the likes of Altered Natives, Lil Silva, DVA and the crown prince of funky, Roska.

The beat driven genre has been a fertile ground for a slew of young British producers, and a few older heads like garage/2step innovator MJ Cole. Fledgling imprints like Night Slugs have positioned themselves at the forefront, exploring new musical tastes that touch on house, garage, R&B and more besides. Sheesh, UK funky has even been christened with its own little section at Juno.

This compilation, which will be released on November 8, aims to capture the sound of these early pioneers.
