Radio 1 reaches 500th Essential Mix

BBC Radio 1 will celebrate its 500th Essential Mix later this month, with the identity of the DJ compiling the milestone mix to remain secret until the night before it goes to air.

The will be broadcast live from Liverpool’s Circus nightclub on April 24 from 1-3am, followed by live sets from Sasha and Richie Hawtin (pictured above), which surely rules them out of contention for the main slot. The identity of the landmark mixer will be revealed on Pete Tong’s show on April 23.

Candidates for the honour were nominated by former Essential Mix DJs, including Carl Cox, Paul Van Dyk and Tiësto, while the final mixer was chosen by a panel of dance music industry experts including Pete Tong, Annie Mac, Judge Jules, Cream’s James Barton, Mixmag’s Ralph Moore and Resident Advisor’s Nick Sabine.
