Pogo draws on Hollywood magic
The term “internet sensation” should be used with trepidation in this day and age (despite what James Murphy may say), but we are finding it hard to come up with any other superlatives to describe Pogo.
The West Australian has posted a host of his productions – which rely almost solely on sampling classic Hollywood movies – on YouTube.
“Skynet Symphonic”, for example, contains nothing but clipped samples from James Cameron’s legendary Terminator 2.
Pogo explains: “Each section is composed entirely of sounds from a major scene in the film. For example, the Terminator pounding on the fire escape door is used as a kick drum. Bones breaking play the role of a snare. Electrical disturbance acts as a crash cymbal.”
His style ranges from the ambient “Mary’s Magic” – which uses sounds from The Secret Garden – to a stunning reinterpretation of Steven Spielberg’s classic “Hook”.
However his pièce de résistance is a sumptuous recreation of sounds from Alice in Wonderland that would make Joy Orbison proud.
The West Australian producer has already developed a massive fanbase – “Mary’s Magic” alone has surpassed 200,000 YouTube views. We personally can’t wait to see what he comes up with next.
