Featured DJ Chart: Matt Walsh (Turbo/Clouded Vision)

Matt Walsh

Featured DJ Chart: Matt Walsh

It’s been a watershed year for Londoner Matt Walsh, with the release of the debut Clouded Vision EP on his own imprint, some fine remixes on esteemed labels Turbo and XL and a slew of DJ slots at festivals and clubs across the UK and Europe. He’s a man with a finger very much on the pulse of electronic music – a connoisseur of everything from deep techno to peak time disco. He guided us through his top 12″s for November (plus a CD or two).

1. Azari & III – Reckless with Your Love (Permanent Vacation)

“Alongside “Fire Eyes” by Canyons, “Hungry for the Power” by Azari & III is one of my favourite tracks this year – both the original and the remixes from Runaway and Matias Aguayo. Their follow-up EP, “Reckless for Your Love”, is pure 90’s acid house, with amazing production. Even the “borderline” vocal works so well!”

2. Basic Soul Unit – Basic Necessity EP (New Kanada)

“I first came across BSU through his records on Versatile and Mule, but this is his best yet. Deep, warm, analogue sounding acid techno – perfect for any late night set.”

3. Peaches – Lose You (Matt Walsh & Alex Jones Remix) (XL)

“This is my first release working alongside Hypercolour label boss Alex Jones, and it’s possibly my favourite of my work so far.  We met after he did some great tracks for Turbo a couple of years ago.  Since then we have remixed Williams, Doorly and we’ve just done a new remix on Kitsune, for Crystal Fighters’s “I Love London”.”

4. Clouded Vision – Neon Rain (Clouded Vision)

“This is the first of a series of original tracks that I have done with production partner, Steve Cook.  We formed Clouded Vision over our love of acid house and 80’s nu wave and post-punk. It comes with two great remixes from Astronomer (Alex Egan, one half of Skull Juice) and The Nialist (a great producer from Scotland, signed to Dissident).”

5. Various – Omnidance (Turbo Recordings)

“Being a resident for one of the most forward thinking techno labels in the world is an honour really.  This double CD was put together to commemorate the label’s finest work so far.  Not only does it include some of my favourite Turbo records, (Forsberg, Shamen, and Konrad Black’s amazing remix of Sunglasses at Night) it also contains some lovely artwork and Canadian banter from over the years.”
