Featured DJ Chart: Hot Toddy

Chris Todd is best known as the writer, producer, guitarist, keyboard player and general knob twiddler for legendary live act Crazy P. He also moonlights under the solo production moniker Hot Toddy, and has just released the rather stunning Late Night Boogie LP on Om offshoot Smoke ‘n’ Mirrors. The album touches on elements of disco, boogie, jazz and funk, and contains a couple of collaborations with Crazy P singer Danielle Moore, as well as the hitherto unknown vocal talents of theatre actress Jennifer Rhonwen. His Juno Plus featured chart for September features a mix of slow jams, cheeky edits and downright dancefloor gems.

1. Hot Toddy – All Night (Smoke n Mirrors)

“This is probably the track I play out the most off my new album. What else can I say really!”

2. Franc Spangler – Forever And A Day (Delusions of Grandeur)

“Awesome deep business this from Franc Spangler, it starts really funky and tracky and then those chords come in…yum.”

3. Bonar Bradberry – Turning Loose (Ron Basejam remix) (Under The Shade)

“Ron turns a nice funky hand to this cool tune from the very talented Mr Bradberry.”

4. The KDMS – High Wire (D-Pulse remix) (Gomma Germany)

“Great remix by Russian producers/band D-Pulse. It’s chilled but very soulful with some great guitar work, and the production is lovely.”

5. Brenda Russell – Way Back When  (Underdog Edits)

“I am not familiar with the original but this is a really great tune – big production, lush strings, and another top release from the Underdog Edits series.”

6. Eltron John – And Then We Realise (Koh-I-Noor)

“Nice edit from the mysterious Eltron. Some perfect laid back soul to sooth the pains away.”

7. Eduardo Castillo – Casaradio (Sol Selectas)

“This is a beautiful track from the Afro Beat EP. It has a really dreamy vibe, with the vocal floating over a hypnotic guitar…yes please!”

8. Rotciv – Hot Summer Nights (Dub) (Mister Mistery)

“This is a really playable re-edit, with a jackin’ bassline and nice use of vocals without over doing it.”

9. Jimmy Edgar – Hot Raw Sex (original mix) (K7)

“A very cool bit of 80s influenced electro funk, rather reminiscent of Laid Back’s “White Horse”. The beats are really low key which makes it an interesting mixing proposition.”

10. Atom – Sunshower (Beatfantic remixes) (Soundscape Sweeded)

“Beatfantic turn out a couple of nice mixes here, lovely laid back grooves.”
