The late Arthur Russell is still revered in disco circles, and rightly so: he is responsible for some of the most original and inventive disco music ever made.
The cellist/composer/singer bridged the gap between New York disco and more avant garde and experimental genres, collaborating with everyone from Phillip Glass to Nicky Siano.
To honour a legend Electric Minds have released an EP containing some of Russell’s finest work, covered by today’s brightest disco talents. Faze Action call in Yam Who? to remake “In The Light Of A Miracle”, while New Yorker Pocketknife covers “Get Around To It”.
London’s electro pop upstarts My Tiger My Timing – who actually got their name from an Arthur Russell track – top it off with a lovely cover of “Arm Around You”.
