Quinn Whalley of Paranoid London, Decius and Warmduscher forms ‘rave wave’ band Hackney Electronica

New band came out of lockdown jamming

Paranoid London’s Quinn Whalley’s fourth band, Hackney Electronica, nestling alongside his work with PL, Decius and Warmduscher, will release its first EP next month.

The band’s inaugural release is a five track 12″ titled ‘Synaptic Shadows’ and set for release on April 4 on American label Dark Entries.

Hackney Electronica comprise of Quinn Whalley (Paranoid London), Unai Trotti (Cartulis Music), and Margo Broom (Hermitage Working Studios) and actually formed during the Covid era. Trotti and Whalley were spending countless hours digging through records and making music during lockdown, then as their sound took shape they invited Broom, who owns PL’s current studio base Hermitage Working Studios), to join and cement the trio.

The five pieces on Synaptic Shadows “explore themes of altered states, late-night cityscapes, and the fine line between pleasure and paranoia” and the first tracks are heavy and hypnotic, more influenced by synthwave and electro than Whalley’s other acts.
