Premiere – Steve O’Sullivan encapsulates “that purist joy of repetition” on ‘Kesk’
Green agenda

Steve O’Sullivan, one of the UK’s most beloved and celebrated exponents of exquisite minimal techno, has just announced a second collection plundered from the archives of his Green Label.
O’Sullivan told us that rather than simply collecting a clutch of already-released tunes, he wanted to go the extra mile with Green Trax Vol2, which is due out on February 28 on Nina Kraviz’s Trip label.
“When I discussed Volume Two with Nina,” he said, “we decided that rather than just relying on previously released material (which is always a quick win) it would be much more interesting to use unreleased tracks from the same era that complemented the originals and represented the sound of the Green label. ‘Kesk’ is one of those.”
‘Kesk’ is the album’s opening moment, and as well as being a super-nimble, speedy teaser of a track, it’s also the one O’Sullivan has decided to share exclusively with Juno Daily readers ahead if its
“For me, as an album opener,” O’Sullivan says, “it sets the tone for what is going to come and eases you gently into the whole vibe of the album. It’s probably the most straight forward, restrained and held back track on there but for me that’s why it works- it encapsulates that purist joy of repetition that the more minimal end of techno aimed for back in those days .
“Now over 20 plus years since it was recorded I can only say that to get support from not just DJs I’ve long admired but also from the new generation that are pushing techno forward is immensely satisfying.”
