Weatherall’s Sabres Of Paradise to reform for live dates in 2025

Primavera festival first confirmed show for 2025.

Andrew Weatherall’s Sabres of Paradise band are to reform without their late founder and play live in 2025.

Next year will mark the 30th anniversary of their split in 1995.

Jagz Kooner from the band has been teasing imminent news in recent days on social media, but the announcement came on the Sabres of Paradise Instagram account this afternoon (October 24).

The statement says:

“We can now confirm that the Sabres of Paradise live band have reformed ( with full original line up ) to play shows in 2025. We are also super excited to announce that we will be appearing at Primavera Sound in 2025!!! This will be our first show since 1995 & we are going to make it something special. The band would also like to say that the reason we have reformed is to help cement the legacy of our dearly departed brother Andrew Weatherall , a true visionary and musical genius who we miss everyday & we hope we do him proud.”

The band – originally Weatherall, Jagz Kooner and Gary Burns – formed in 1992 released three albums, Sabresonic, Haunted Dancehall and Sabresonic II and a number of singles – including the era-defining ‘Smokebelch II’ and ‘Theme’ – on Warp, Weatherall’s own Special Emissions and the Elastic Dreams labels. They disbanded in late 1995.

Jagz Kooner responded to concerns raised by fans on Weatherall Facebook fan group that claims the “full live band” were back in action couldn’t be true, given Weatherall’s passing.

“It’s with the full original live band . Andrew didn’t play live in the band but preferred to DJ before and after the band had played and also do all the studio work.”

Primavera Sound takes place in Barcelona , Spain, between June 5-7.
