Label Focus – Chris Coco’s DSPPR
Balearic bliss that refuses to Disappear

WHAT’S THE NAME OF YOUR LABEL, AND WHO RUNS IT?
It’s called Disappear and written DSPPR. A&R is by me, Chris Coco.
WHEN & WHY DID THE LABEL START?
It started accidentally after I used it to release an album called How To Disappear Completely, then kind of spiralled in the pandemic when I started working with new artists.
GIVE US A BRIEF SUMMARY OF WHAT YOU’VE RELEASED SINCE THEN….
A stack of Balearic leaning singles and EP on digital; now we’re making limited vinyl runs of albums by myself, collaborators and newer artists who are stepping up to make a mark with their first physical LP release.
WHAT QUALITIES ARE YOU LOOKING FOR IN THE MUSIC YOU RELEASE?
Really it’s about the word you used – quality. There are no rules as long as we think it’s great, though we specialise in Balearic/downtempo/electronic music, but let’s see what happens next.
WHAT KIND OF VISUAL IDENTITY DOES THE LABEL HAVE (ARTWORK, VIDEOS ETC)?
We’re working with a great designer – Anthony at Studio Imeus to build a label identity. Check the amazing work he has done on the Chris Coco – Daydream Utopia album and the new Warriors Of The Dystotheque vinyl to see how it’s going.

WHAT’S BEEN YOUR BIGGEST SELLING RELEASE TO DATE? TELL US A BIT ABOUT IT AND WHY YOU THINK IT WAS SO POPULAR.
The biggest physical release is the self titled debut album from SONLIFE. It’s breakbeat meets ambient meets electronica, very deep and very South London sound. We aimed as we do with all the physical releases to make a full listening experience with two distinct sides. That albums great for chilling / working or the full deep hi fi listening thing.
NAME ONE RELEASE THAT YOU THINK DESERVED TO GET MORE ATTENTION THAN IT DID
All of them! We think every release is brilliant and we want them all to do better. That’s in the dna of running a label.
IF YOU COULD SIGN ANY ARTIST, ALIVE OR DEAD, WHO WOULD YOU CHOOSE AND WHY?
The next person we’re going to discover, because they are going to change everything.

WHICH OTHER LABELS DO YOU ADMIRE AND WHY?
Any label that’s out their doing their own thing – Leaving Records from California are great at the moment. Our inspirations, though we’re obvs nowhere near either of them yet are Warp and Factory. You always have to look up!
WHAT CAN WE LOOK TO FROM YOUR LABEL NEXT?
The next two physical releases are Warriors Of The Dystotheque – It’s A Beautiful Thing – a vinyl album in the jazz/library/Balearic area that is really good and hard to categorise or pigeonhole.
Then a CD compilation for The Chill Out Tent, a festival / party crew that Chris Coco is involved with. That kind of does what it says on the tin.
