Premiere: Stefan Goldmann’s jagged, polyrhythmic grooover ‘Yantra’

Advance listen from the Berlin producer’s Alluvium LP

Alluvium is the third in Berlin-based experimental producer Stefan Goldmann’s series of albums exploring the “first principles” research of metric asymmetry.

Exploring new structural paths for machine rhythm in irregular metres, the album seems non-binary patterns running simultaneously, moving in and out of interlocking focus, across 12 offerings of “jagged polyrhythmic magic”.

With Veiki (2019) and Vector Rituals (2022) already gaining him a growing fan base for his unexpectedly constructed but melodically lush compositions, Alluvium is sure to be well received by those with an ear for the previously undiscovered terrains of leftfield electronics.

Goldmann is sharing the track ‘Yantra’ from the album with Juno Daily readers ahead of its release on Macro on April 12, a track which plays skittering, trebly percussiveness against prodding sub-bass. Like all of Goldmann’s productions, it’s thoroughly unique and utterly compulsive.

He told us: “The shape and flow of the track essentially came from the synthesizers involved. I often tend to explore what comes out of a device as if it were a natural material, like wood, stone or fiber. There are shapes that come more naturally with one material than another. Once you’ve set a few starting points and laid out a few gateways, the rest grows without much prodding.”
