Teenage Engineeringʼs cool new sampler is surprisingly cheap

The Teenage Engineering EP-133 KO II is an evolution of the best-selling Pocket Operator PO-33.

Newly announced by Teenage Engineering, weʼve got a feeling the EP-133 KO II may prove to be the brandʼs most significant release for years. Based on the Pocket Operator PO-33 KO! sampler – which Teenage Engineering claim is the best-selling sampler of all time – the larger, more powerful KO II marks the debut of a new form factor for the Swedish audio outfit. Why does that matter? Because the Pocket Operator series demonstrates how the same tooling can be used to create multiple products in the same range. Donʼt be surprised if the EP-133 quickly spawns a full EP series of synths and drum machines.

Starting with the KO II, though, itʼs a neat little sampler/sequencer with up to 12 mono or six stereo tracks of samples, plus MIDI. Itʼs got pressure and velocity- sensitive pads, effects, automation, plus a built-in speaker and microphone. Perhaps most impressively of all, it costs just under £300. Itʼs a genuinely unique offering, coming in substantially cheaper than a more conventional option like a Roland SP-404MKII. If this is the start of a new range then weʼre hugely excited to see what comes next. For now, you can check out the KO II in the video above.

The Teenage Engineering EP-133 KO II is available now, priced at £299.
