Film about Magazine/PiL/Banshees guitarist John McGeogh launches crownfunding campaign

John Frusciante and Johnny Marr among stars paying tribute in film

A new film about Scottish guitarist John McGeogh, who defined the post-punk sound with Magazine, Siouxsie and the Banshees and Public Image Ltd, is launching a crowdfunding appeal to reach cinemas.

‘The Light Pours Out Of Me’ is a feature documentary film co-directed by Paul Sng and Nicola Black, celebrating the life and musical legacy of McGeoch, who was born in Greenock, Scotland.

McGeoch forged a new guitar style that defined the sound of the 1980s and 1990s, pioneering new ways of playing that influenced generations of guitarists, such as Johnny Marr, Johnny Greenwood, Steve Albini, James Dean Bradfield, and John Frusciante.

But it exacted a heavy toll on his personal life. The damage from drugs and alcohol, combined with the loneliness of being away from his family, impacted negatively on his mental health.

The film is told through the experiences of John’s daughter Emily, who was only 15 when her father tragically died in 2004 and features original interviews with ,any of the names who were influenced by his style.
