Juno Daily – In The Mix: Orka
Mix was inspired by trip on the London underground
Francine Perry and Jens L Thomsen aka Orka are based in London and the Faroe Islands and their musical outlook is as widely spread as their geographic origins, taking in everything from uncompromising techno to breaks and ambience.
They’ve just released their sixth album, ‘All At Once’ and to tie in with its release they’ve concocted an exclusive mix inspired by their trips on the tube. How about that for underground credentials?
“The idea for this mix came from our many trips travelling on the London Underground from our house to the studio,” they told us, “It is structured around the trip. The first three tunes are uptempo and what we would listen to when walking up to the tube station. The middle bit of the mix is more ambient and represents the part of the trip where you sit or stand while the train races you through the underground.
“There are a couple of darker tunes with beats in the middle of the mix. We put them here for when you’re changing platforms or find yourself walking down one of the many underground pedestrian tunnels. We mixed in LV & Joshua Idehen’s ‘Northern Line’ as we literally can’t get on the Northern Line without hearing this tune in our heads. It’s followed by ORKA’s ‘N176’ which we wrote together with LV. The mix ends with another set of uptempo tunes we tend to listen to when leaving the station on our way to the studio.”
