DJ Marky: new album The Time Is Right is “the best translation of what I am”
LP features Solah, MC GQ, Harry Shotta and many more
DJ Marky has told Juno Daily that his new album is his finest expression to date of what he is.
The Time Is Right was released this week and is the Brazilian drum & bass DJ’s first album in eight years, almost two decades on from his debut album In Rotation, that cemented him as a fixture in the d&b underground.
The album – which features 12 tracks across three pieces of vinyl – includes collaborations with Solah, Makoto, fellow Brazilian L-Side, MC GQ, Harry Shotta and Daddy Earl among many others.
“Making this record was a mix of feelings but very exciting!” he told Juno Daily. “All my love, my passion, my disappointments and also my feelings of joy are all inside this album. I believe it is my best translation of what I am: a true music lover!”
Meanwhile, Marky has a non d&b release lined up for release in August, this time on 7″. His track ‘You’re The One (You’re My Number One)’ is a disco funk affair, a cover of a 1983 disco cut by Katie Kissoon, with fresh vocals from singer Sally Green. Released on Japanese label At Home Sound, it’s due out on August 23 and available for pre-order now.
