Red D assembles team of deep house heroes for remix EP

Kai Alce, Charles Webster and more on board

Red D

Red D, esteemed Belgian producer and one half of DJ duo FCL, has enlisted a top notch team of remixers to re-rub tracks from his debut album, and they’ve been telling Juno Daily about the results.

Charles Webster, Kai Alcé, Far Out Radio Systems and San Soda all chose tracks from Fantasize Then Realize, which was released via Red D’s own We Play House label in February 2023, to remix. The Re-fantasized and Re-realized EP continues in the album’s vein of quality, melodic deep house.

Charles Webster told us that when Red D asked him to remix one of the tracks from the album, ‘Dust King’ was the one he immediately felt. “Serious groove vibes\! I really enjoyed working on it.”

San Soda, meanwhile, commented: “The remix was done using a Monomachine only, a machine I came to adore, at the kitchen table at my parents place (between the soup and the potatoes as they say in Belgium). My studio was packed up so it was fun to do something with one piece of gear!”

Far Out Radio Systems said he had an instant connection with ‘Fantasize’, the warm and beatless intro of the album. “With stretched out vocals and distorted bass embedded in a rich sound desin, I aimed to create a transmission from another world,” he said.

NDATL affiliate and friend Kai Alcé picked the track ‘Smoothness She Brings’ featuring Detroit’s very own Reggie Dokes. “Pushing the tempo of the original with a few nods,” Red himself told us, “Kai delivers a blossoming spring house cut balancing playful synths and a deep rolling bass.”
