Two names who have burst unexpectedly onto the music scene – Wet Leg and Yard Act – have been nominated for this year’s Mercury Music Prize, ahead of ignored big sellers like Adele and Charli XCX.

But the electronic music sector, which has registered huge selling albums from Bicep and Bonobo in the last year, among others, finds itself locked out of the list too. Previous winners have included Roni Size/Reprazent and Burial.

The full list of shortlist nominees for the prize, announced on September 8 ,

Fergus McCreadie – ‘Forest Floor’

Gwenno – ‘Tresor’

Harry Styles – ‘Harry’s House’

Jessie Buckley & Bernard Butler – ‘For All Our Days That Tear The Heart’

Joy Crookes – ‘Skin’

Kojey Radical – ‘Reason To Smile’

Little Simz – ‘Sometimes I Might Be Introvert’

Nova Twins – ‘Supernova’

Sam Fender – ‘Seventeen Going Under’
