Premiere: James Ruskin and Mark Broom share exclusive track from hip-hop-slanted project The Fear Ratio’s new LP Slinky
UK rapper King Kashmere features extensively alongside the pair on the album
The Fear Ratio – the hip-hop slanted electro/techno project put together by James Ruskin and Mark Broom – have shared an exclusive track from their new LP Slinky, out via Tresor on June 24.
Formed as the collaborative project of techno legends Mark Broom & James Ruskin, The Fear Ratio was created as a means for the pair to explore their more experimental urges, away from their usual house and techno, through which both found success in the 1990s.
The duo’s acclaimed debut album Lightbox was initially released in 2011 on Ruskin’s Blueprint Records, and featured remixes from Warp artists Plaid and Deadhand. Soon after, they formed a long-lasting relationship with cult Manchester based label Skam, releasing the follow-ups Refuge Of A Twisted Soul and They Can’t Be Saved. 2018 later saw a four-track ‘Live EP’ consisting of exclusive versions of their Autechre supporting slot at the Great Northern Warehouse in Manchester.
Although our exclusive is a speedy, creepy electro instrumental titled ‘NB AP’, the new album extensively features British rapper King Kashmere, and a one-off vocal cameo from London singer Ella Fleur on the track ‘Lacovset’.
The duo recently unveiled the new album and collaboration with King Kashmere in a live show for a 30th Anniversary event for Tresor Berlin, televised on Arte. The new project represents a newfound incorporation of the voice, which the duo aim to ‘shapeshift’ and extensively affect.
The Fear Ratio’s Slinky LP will be released on Tresor on June 24th. Pre-order the album here:
