The Cure, Pet Shop Boys and Moyet lead tributes to founding Depeche Mode member Andy Fletcher
“Fletch” has died, aged 60
Depeche Mode keyboardist Andy Fletcher has died, the band has announced in a statement.
Fletcher (known affectionately as Fletch) was a founding member of the band, and his playing helped pave the way for the ‘dark electronic’ synthpop sound that would define them.
The band said on Twitter: “Fletch had a true heart of gold and was always there when you needed support, a lively conversation, a good laugh or a cold pint.”
Fletcher was 60. The cause of death is not yet known.

An outpouring of tributes has appeared in support, including those by Cure member Lol Tolhurst, Pet Shop Boys, and Fletcher’s former classmate, singer and childhood best friend Alison Moyet.
Lol Tolhurst (The Cure):
Very sad news today. Andy Fletcher of Depeche Mode has passed. I knew Andy and considered him a friend. We crossed many of the same pathways as younger men . My heart goes out to his family, bandmates, and DM fans. RIP Fletch.

Alison Moyet:
I have just heard the news. Since we were 10. Same estate. Class mates to label mates. He who kept faith with all the old gang and they with him. It doesn’t compute. Fletch. I have no words. #andyfletcher
