Robyn, Anohni, Greentea Peng and more for Neneh Cherry reworks album The Versions
Lead single is Sia’s take on the West London icon’s ‘Manchild’ classic
Neneh Cherry (pictured) has announced details of an all-star cast of talent covering her songs on upcoming remix album The Versions, out on June 10.
The new album is a collaborative collection of covers by other artists, who have reinterpreted many of the songs from Cherry’s extensive back catalogue. Contributing artists include Robyn, Anohni, Greentea Peng, Kelsey Lu, Sudan Archives, and Tyson – as well as a standout cover from revered pop singer SIA, of Cherry’s hit song ‘Manchild’.
The 10 tracks on the album are each reworkings of songs that have personal connections to each covering artist. Sia, for example, expressed her love for ‘Manchild’, stating:
“Neneh was my favourite artist when she hit the scene. I saved my pocket money for red Filas and dreamt one day we would meet. When I was struggling with my mental health in my early twenties, I somehow ended up in their house being taken care of as if I was one of their own children. I called her husband during a suicide attempt, who had been mentoring me as an incredible music producer, and they gave me all the love I could have dreamt of. I owe them a huge thanks and would sing ‘a-b-c’ for them if they asked.”
There’s also a Honey Dijon remix of ‘Buddy X’, which wraps the album up on a dance note.
