“It’s impossible to say anything bad about him” – Lumberjacks label owner pays tribute to the late Michel Baumann.

Baumann totally nailed the Detroit techno vibe says Lumberjacks chief

Michel Baumann was THE German producer to properly nail the Detroit techno vibe, says a label owner who worked with him extensively in recent times.

Marcel Vogel of Lumberjacks In Hell says although he never knew Baumann in person, his dealings with him over a number of remix projects – one which is yet to see the light of day – left him with a feeling of immense admiration.

He said: “It’s impossible to say anything bad about him. Humble, kind, professional, trailblazing. I am very glad that I had the honour to work with him a few times.

“Michel did a remix for me for Always Isn’t Only on Intimate Friends, The Parking Lot Blues EP on Lumberjacks in Hell and then an upcoming remix for Jonna & Javonntte – Jus Move also on Lumberjacks in Hell which will drop next month.  Next to MCDE he was THE German producer nailing the Detroit vibe the most.”

Baumann was best known for his worked under the names Soulphiction and Jackmate and running the label Philpot with Tobias Ettle.  News of his death spread on the internet yesterday – he had previously shared the fact he was visiting hospital for chemotherapy treatment for cancer.  Tributes from numerous producers and DJs flooded onto social media as the news spread.
