Hodge and Randomer join forces on Livity Sound

The Bristol upstart and the L.I.E.S regular present their first collaboration on the reverse Livity sublabel.

Those who keep a close eye on Jacob ‘Hodge’ Martin’s lively social media activity may well be aware that he and Rohan ‘Randomer’ Walder have been getting together in the studio. In fact, last year at the Simple Things festival in Bristol you could have caught the pair playing a four hour back-to-back set which, while initially unexpected, turned out to be a perfect meeting of minds in the crossover between techno and all that other bass-minded business. On his own terms, Martin has eased off on the releases this year after a head spinning 2014 and 2015, with no standalone releases surfacing since the Forms Of Life single on Berceuse Heroique. Walder however has been spotted out a few times so far this year, hitting up Clone’s Basement Series, Dekmantel’s UFO Series and kicking off the London-based Neighbourhood label.

Now the Hodge and Randomer sounds have truly converged with a rip-roaring double-header for Livity Sound’s reverse label, where Hodge has been seen stepping out in the past. As you might well expect from this pairing on this label, there’s a focus on lean, mean soundsystem mechanics within both “Second Freeze” and “Simple As”, where percussion takes the lead and there’s little room for melody. These were clearly tracks built for the dance, most specifically for the respective artists’ own sets.
