Todd Modes has Native Visions
The lesser-known Detroit artist is the next signing to FIT Sound.
While the big hitters from the Motor City continue to carve a path around the booming international club and festival circuit, it’s easy to forget the swathes of other producers emanating from Detroit. From Alex Israel and Reggie Dokes through to Brian Kage and Pirahnahead, there are always other artists lurking in the wings that get less name checks despite the quality of their craft, many of whom were picked up on the excellent In The Dark compilation on Still Music a few years ago. Todd Cochell is one such character, having skirted around any kind of release schedule over more than ten years while assisting with production for Ab/nrml, popping up on the M1 Sessions label both solo as Todd Modes and as part of Cosmic Handshake, and most notably appearing on Golf Channel last year as one half of Modes & Severson with the excellent Midnight Exotics 12”.
Aaron Siegel’s FIT Sound label is certainly not adverse to supporting the more cult concerns of his city, and so Cochell has been snapped up for the three-track Native Visions EP. The record leads in with the kind of heavy, layered tribal throwdown you could find on the DJ Sotofett Percussion Mixes Vol. 1 single from late last year, while there’s also space for some atmospheric, woozy sax house and blissful beatdowns aplenty. FIT Sound being the generous people they are, you can enjoy some lengthy clips from the EP in the SoundCloud player below.
FIT Sound will release Native Visions EP by Todd Modes in September.
