Featured DJ Chart: Patrice Scott
Sistrum Records boss Patrice Scott piqued the interest of Juno Plus with a steady stream of house 12″s since 2006 on both his own imprint and a sprinkling of others, including Keith Worthy‘s Aesthetic Audio and European labels Yore, Curle and Minuendo. His production style has a raw analogue grit that harks back to his formative years spent remixing with two cassette recorders, a drum machine and turntables. His own fledgling label has also served as a platform for a number of producers from across the globe, including Ksoul and Ra.H, Leonid, XDB and Mike Edge.
These days his name can safely be endowed with the prefix ‘globe trotting DJ’, with 2010 gigs taking him to Croatia, Germany, Holland, Japan, Israel, Russia, Spain, Serbia and the UK. His new Analog Dreams 12″ is about to drop, so we dialled up Detroit to see exactly what was in that record bag of his. His selections this month include a healthy mixture of raw house and deep techno, with cuts from Ron Trent, A Guy Called Gerald, Reggie Dokes and Lawrence all making the top 10.
“This is the 14th release on Sistrum and I am especially proud of this project. It ranges from deep Detroit techno to deep house. Enjoy!”
“This guy is a genius. He knows how to come from all directions and this EP is just another example of his versatility.”
“Classic Ron Trent. A living legend. Do I need to say anything else?”
“This guy continues to do it release after release. His sound is phenomenal: somehow modern and old school at the same time. Straight up beaters!”
“‘Emotional’ and ‘melodic’ are the two words that best describe Kuba’s music. Kuba caught my attention with his release on Matrix last year. An incredibly talented producer.”
“This release, along with several of Steve’s releases on Emphasis Recordings, are permanent staples in my record bag. Steve is always bringing the heat!”
“This label continues to impress. There is no let down when it comes to each release. Quality music.”
“The dark, dirty and abstract textures of this piece are outstanding. The original mix is definitely prime-time material. A nice piece of techno.”
“Since the conception of Psychostasia Recordings Reggie has not been afraid to be different. He has developed a unique style of his own that works.”
“Peter Kersten” is an absolutely phenomenal producer! He always comes from different angles, which makes his music anything but ordinary.”
