Featured DJ Chart: Jacques Renault

Jacques Renault is pretty much the go-to man for Juno Plus when it comes to all things disco and house these days. His remix of Midnight Magic’s “Beam Me Up” is up there with the best thing our ears have hear all summer, while his On The Prowl imprint (launched with co-conspirator Marcos Cabral) has served as a neat conduit for showcasing Runaway productions and unearthing gems such as NYC freestyle artist Corinne. Meanwhile the On The Prowl Party Breaks sub label has dropped some seriously cheeky edits, including one particular reworking of Jet Brown that is still on regular rotation in the JP office. Indeed, so much has happened since we caught up with Jacques at the beginning of the year that we just had to call up the Big Apple and see what’s in his record bag at the moment.

1. DJ Nature – Everyone (Golf Channel)

“After the incredible release by Justin Vandervolgen, Golf Channel brings us another two DJ Nature 12″s. It’s always difficult to choose a favourite but I am going to go for “Everyone”.”

2. Audiojack – Motion Sickness (20:20 Vision)

“20:20 vision is on a roll at the moment. After a string of solid 12″s from Melohman & Javi Bora, Hector and Ray Mang remixes of 20:20 Soundsystem, we have this banger from Audiojack. People ask me every time I play “Motion Sickness” what it is. An amazing floor filler, I recommend you try it!”

3. Cos/Mes – Chaosexotica (Welcome Stranger remix) (ESP Institute)

“New mixes of Cos / Mes brought to us from Mr. Lovefingers’ ESP Institute. TBD and Thomas Bullock spice things up here and take us to another world. When Andrew played this out in full for the first time I couldn’t believe it. Check out the cool video of TBD’s mix on YouTube as well.”

4. Reggie Dokes – House Is My Soul (Ojo De Apolo)

“I have at least one record by this guy in my bag anywhere I go. There’s just something about how it’s mixed that really works.”

5. Nicholas – Free At Last (No More Hits)

“Another solid release from the No More Hits guys. “Dig Deep” just kills it for me. In a similar vein to the Super Value edit series, it’s easy to buy every NMH release, they are all super special in their own way.”

6. Ghetto Brothers – Ghetto Disco (Clone Royal)

“I like this one – running tribal disco house. And those stabby sax sounds…”

7. Session Victim/Quarion – Pepper Candy (Retreat)

“On this release the Session Victim/Quarion guys hit a big room build with some dreamy Rhodes. This brings a smile to my face when I hear it played loud.”

8. Mark E – Nobody Else (Running Back)

“I like Mark E’s recent Special FX release a lot and on this Running Back release he boosts the tempo a little which is nice, with even more tribal drums, uplifting keys and a bouncy bassline – well done.”

9. Bubble Club – Morning Star (Soft Rocks remix) (Bubble Club)

“Bubble Club is putting out great 12″s, one after the other. They’ve had some big names remix their work and to add to the list is Soft Rocks here. Catchy house with solid late 80s drums and some modern synth sounds.”

10. Runaway – The Fire Below Remixes (On The Prowl)

“Marcos and I released two new On The Prowl 12″s recently – New York Freestyle artist Corinne (produced by Josh Anzano) and a remix 12″ of our own “The Fire Below”. Our good friends The Revenge and Azari & III did amazing remixes that I play out all the time. Up next for the label is a new Corinne 12″ (featuring some heavy hitter remixers), as well as a new OTP Party Breaks release from Andy Ash and Runaway.”
