Featured DJ Chart: Greenmoney
Greenmoney are the duo of Alex Phountzi (of Bugz In The Attic fame) and Leo Greenslade (founder of London’s long-running YoYo party). After remixing everyone from Kid Cudi to Lily Allen via Boy 8 Bit, the pair showcased their insouciant fusion of funky house, dancehall, and hip-hop on the Gold Ru$h EP, released a few weeks back on A-Trak’s Fools Gold imprint. We collared them for a quick run down of what’s in their digital record bags this month…
1. Greenmoney – Suh Mi Stay (Fools Gold)
“One of the tracks off our debut Gold Ru$h EP on Fools Gold. This features Toddla T’s right hand man Serocee on vocal duties, and comes complete with a remix from Baltimore’s broken house don, Karizma.”
2. Thommy Davis – Mars Needs Women (Spen & Thommy mix) (Code Red/Defected)
“Mars needs women and so does your club night, otherwise it’s just a man-hole and you know what that means…. This is a heavy tune that we got turned onto via Funk Butcher’s Houseology show on Rinse FM. This dropped a couple of years back but still sounds fresh and it’s all about the Spen and Tommy mixes for us.”
3. L-Vis 1990 – Reprise (Night Slugs)
“A personal favourite of ours from the new Forever You EP. Not much to say other than top quality house music.”
4. Mike Delinquent Project – The Warning (Mindset)
“Taken from his Genesis EP, we got turned onto this by yOyO’s Kobe 1. Sounding like a Basstone for 2010, this rocked Block 9 at Glastonbury a few weeks back.”
5. Riva Starr – Black Mama (Made To Play)
“A wicked little party starter sampling the classic Lafayette Afro Rock Band’s “Darkest Light”, also used by Jay Z on “Show Me What You Got” and Wreckx -N-Effect’s “Rump Shaker” amongst others…”
6. Lil Silva – Night Skanker (Night Slugs)
“Taken from Lil Silva’s debut EP on Night Slugs, this is one of several choice cuts – grime house bizniz!!!”
7. Boy 8 Bit – The Keep (This Is Music)
“Little late on this one but Dave serves up an absolute monster!”
8. DJ Zinc – Nexx (Zinc Music)
“A personal highlight off Crackhouse Vol 2, Zinc takes no prisoners with this bassline! Absolutely rocking on the floor and smashes it everytime.”
9. Ill Blu – Bellion (Hyperdub)
“Been a fan of Ill Blu for a minute. UK funky don dada no question. Good to see him experimenting a little and dropping on Hyperdub.”
10. Havana Cultura – Chekere Son (Seiji rerub) (Brownswood)
“We’ve been playing this in our sets for months and it always works. Its simply Seiji doing what he does best…”
