EMI to sell Abbey Road studios?
EMI is said to have put Abbey Road recording studio up for sale in a bid to tackle its debts, the Financial Times has reported.
EMI would not comment but five people familiar with the situation told the Financial Times it had been courting bidders for the property in St John’s Wood, the report says.
It is not clear, the report adds, whether EMI is intending to sell both the brand and the studio.
EMI bought the house at number 3 Abbey Road for £100,000 in 1929 and transformed it into the world’s first custom-built recording studio.
Abbey Road featured on the famous Beatles album of the same name, released in 1969.
