Why the Ron Hardy legend lives on
Following on from the exciting news that Chicago House imprint Trax is set to make a comeback, we couldn’t help digging through some classic house memories.
We stumbled across this recording of the legendary Ron Hardy playing a record backwards (it starts about 3.20 minutes in).
Legend goes he did this by mounting the turntable headshell upside down to the tone-arm, placing a cylinder on the platter, putting the record on the cylinder and removing the tone-arm weight, before pushing the now upside-down needle into the underside of the record. The platter spun like normal, but the record played backwards…
However others claim Hardy did it using a reel-to-reel, a much more straightforward method.
