  3. Shades Of Tuch (4:34)
  4. The Dead Cry (4:16)
  5. Patch Dance (3:48)
  6. Ten Fold Rule (4:00)
Review: If you like your electro to be scraped off the sewer pipes and flambeed for extra effect, then ZEMENT have you covered with this mucky gem from Alonzo. "Time Tales" has the kind of grinding synth tones and dystopian vocoder action that would be right at home in a Helena Hauff DJ set, while "My Vibe" switches things up with a saucy vocal take from WMN that comes on like Peaches jamming with Dopplereffekt. "Shades Of Tuch" takes things in a spooky direction, while "The Dead Cry" keeps things sparse and chilling. "Patch Dance" turns the distortion up to 11, and "Ten Fold Rule" rounds things off with another wonderfully murky lead line for the end of days.

Infrared (12")
Cat: HTH 107. Rel: 14 Jan 20
  1. Infrared (7:57)
  2. Tunnel Vision (8:25)
  3. Leisure Techno (6:21)
  4. The Good Old Days Are Tomorrow (5:06)
Review: Two years on from their Bedouin Records-released debut 12 "Aegis", Aquarian and Deapmash once again join forces as AQXDM for a follow-up on Houndstooth. Like its' predecessor, "Infrared" is hard to pigeonhole, with the pair mixing and mangling elements of industrial, electro, techno, breakbeat, experimental electronica and IDM into a quartet of wayward, full-throttle cuts. At times, this mix-and-match approach manifests itself as giddy 21st century hardcore (the rave-tastic, sub-powered insanity of "Leisure Techno") and mutant jungle ("The Good Old Days Are Tomorrow"), while at other points what you get is a much more bleak and cinematic feel (the two A-side cuts, which are superb but tough to accurately describe).

Cat: HRM 003. Rel: 13 Jan 20
  1. Elevate (5:32)
  2. Toulouse (5:29)
  3. Employee (5:35)
  4. Refer (5:20)
Review: Following releases from Marquis Hawkes, Francis Harris and Hamatsuki, Georgia's Horoom label showcases some local talent. Gacha Bakradze is a rising talent on an international level, having recently appeared on Fever AM, but here he channels a sound that should find favour with fans of fellow Georgian talent HVL. Dubby atmospheres and snaking percussive rollers abound, with a hint of UK hardcore and jungle influence lurking in the middle distance but deployed with care. Subtlety is key here, as Bakradze unfurls immersive cuts with a restrained power to take the dancefloor to some truly transcendental places.

Lyk Lyk (12" repress)
Cat: FMB 004. Rel: 17 Jan 20
  1. Bicep - "Lyk Lyk" (7:05)
  2. Bicep - "Poly Pineapple" (5:58)
  3. Bicep & Hammer - "Icebowl" (4:59)
  4. Bicep & Hammer - "Day 3" (6:30)
Review: By their standards, 2014 has been a relatively quiet year for Belfast boys Bicep, with a remix 12" and the Circles EP on Aus Music their only releases of note. "Lyk Lyk" is, then, a welcome return to action. The title track is particularly sweaty and once again mines vintage rave influences, with fluid synths and cut-up vocals riding a classic late '80s/early '90s breakbeat groove. "Poly Pineapple" is a little deeper, with waves of wide-eyed synths crashing over a thumping house groove. On the flipside, the duo join forces with partner-in-blogging Hammer for a couple of cuts; the woozy, glacial, synth-heavy "Icebowl" and "Day 3", a stomping chunk of retro-futurist techno smothered in 808 State style synths. Balearic techno anyone?

Anti Gravitation Substance (hand-stamped hand-numbered 12" limited 250 copies)
Cat: ALBEIT 003. Rel: 14 Jan 20
  1. Intex (5:23)
  2. Calder (6:19)
  3. Yunul Dub (11:29)
Review: Since launching last year, Bristol label Albeit has impressed with two 12" singles: one that raided the archives of hardware abusers Activ-Analog and another from up-and-coming producer Ish. The imprint's third release is another archival affair that offers up three tracks from Marco Repetto's Bigeneric project that were reportedly recorded way back in 1998. First up is "Intex", a fuzzy and distorted slab of leftfield techno futurism built around some suitably off-kilter beats and intergalactic synths. "Calder", a bolder and more percussive chunk of wayward techno hedomism seemingly named after a river in West Yorkshire, accompanies it on side A. Arguably best of all though is flipside "Yunul Dub", an eleven-and-a-half-minute exercise in spaced-out ambient dub/dub techno fusion that's impressively immersive.

  1. Creation Dub (5:49)
  2. Drift (6:26)
  3. Parallel Space (6:40)
  4. Parallel Space (Conforce remix) (8:01)
Review: Renowned since his Livity Sound days for delivering complex rhythms, heavy basslines and intricate electronics, Forest Drive West pitches up on Echochord with a deliciously spaced-out EP that explores the dub techno side of his multi-faceted musical persona. He eases us in gently via head-in-the-clouds opener "Creation Dub", a hypnotic, eyes-closed affair rich in slow broken techno rhythms and echoing Deepchord synths, before delivering the sparse, minimalist dub techno fuzz of "Drift". Side B is all about "Parallel Space", with Forest Drive West's metallic, Livity Sound-esque original mix - think broken techno meets dub techno - being paired with a Conforce remix that re-imagines it as an ear-pleasing slice of rolling dub techno positivity.

Sky Birds of Ki (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: NR 002. Rel: 13 Jan 20
  1. Pulser (9:12)
  2. Sky Birds Of Ki (7:32)
  3. Beyond Sector 9 (8:00)
Review: After first emerging in 2018, hitherto unknown London name The Forgotten Man returns for a second EP on their own noctu recordings, delving into the arcane language of intricate machine soul spanning the deeper end of techno and electro. The EP opens up with "Pulser", an uplifting, acid tinged 4/4 jam with resplendent synth work spilling out of every pore. "Sky Birds Of Ki" takes a more broken rhythm template, but keeps the effervescent melodic content squarely in the foreground. "Beyond Sector 9" takes things cool and intricate, capturing a little of the magic you'd expect from classic Metamatics in the process.

Cat: K 1206. Rel: 13 Jan 20
  1. Marginal (10:21)
  2. Never The Same (10:21)
Review: Chicago's modular master is back, this time with some heady, heavy tripping tunes for the dancefloor. On the A side, 126_Marginal bounces on with timeless cosmic electro; 126_Never The Same takes a slightly more reflective approach to melody, but continues to propel with weighty sub-bass heat.

LONEWOLF 002 (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: LONEWOLF 002. Rel: 13 Jan 20
  1. Hat Of Osiris (6:45)
  2. Snooper (5:03)
  3. Histoire Du Bouclard (5:31)
  4. Process (7:30)
Review: The second release on Lonewolf finds the EYA sister label exploring some particularly fruity strains of house and techno. "Hat Of Osiris" has a gutsy punch to it, a mean swing and a raw analogue flavour to the synths that make it pure firepower for the club. "Snooper" has a more electro-techno flavour, although once more the freaked out flutter of the synths suggest some grungy gear being deployed in the production process. "Histoire Du Bouclard" opts for outright electro - the kind that might sit comfortably on a label like Breakin Records. "Process" completes the set with an acid-laced workout that's equal parts dreamy and nasty.

  2. Ewan Jansen - "Sinders" (6:06)
  3. Reedale Rise - "Coral" (5:30)
  4. Owain K - "Teifi" (5:56)
Review: After two stunning rounds that featured the likes of Mark Hand, Lerosa and A Sagittariun, Bristol label Innate returns with another various EP of advanced techno ruminations from emergent talent and established names alike. Perseus Traxx leads in with a dense and expressive body popper that channels a little vintage B12, while Ewan Jansen takes things deep and aqueous with the gorgeous "Sinders". Rising electro star Reedale Rise serves up more of his sleek and refined machine funk on "Coral", and label boss Owain K unfurls a shimmering blanket of melancholic house with the sublime "Teifi".

  3. Energy (6:28)
  4. Skynet (5:31)
Review: Shadowy German techno just found a new hero, as Recycled steps up as both artist and label to bring some serious heat to the dancefloor. There's a muscular thrust to "Industries" that's precision engineered to slot into all manner of peak-time, rolling techno sets. "Block" takes things more pumping still, while "Energy" teases a little dubby immersion by way of some classic metallic chords. The record closes with "Skynet", a dark and clanging dungeon piece for full psychological submission that gives way to mellow chord tones - a real journey of a track.

  4. Breathe (Deepchord Ocean remix) (7:14)
Review: Deepchord label co-founder Mike Schommer is lesser known that his partner Rod Modell, but this new EP on Greyscale could well even things out a little. It's his first EP in more than 10 years and is a tender dub techno lullaby with distinctive vocals from Milly James. On "Come Home," the dubbed out chords ripple to infinity while James' angelic vocal lingers long in the air above, then "Breathe" slows things right down to a crawl for even deeper listening. "Cut You Down" is impressively cavernous then Deepchord remixes "Breathe" into a frosty and late night roller.
