Review: Stop yourself in for another rugged ride through electro and techno from the vanguard here as Thisbe Recordings serves up a fifth fantastic slab of wax. It's a fine various artists affair that kicks off with Acid Washed and the legendary Arnaud Rebotini. Their 'Brandtaucher' is a polished metal and electro tinged disco cut with bleeping melodies. Seb El Zin then keeps it real raw with 'Lingua Minimalista' and the energy doesn't dip on Rambal Cochet's flip side opener 'Oseary Drakoulias' races to the star on slap funk bass and cruising melodies. Mount Kismet's 'Sirocco' rides on rugged arps and last of all Danton Eeprom's 'L'Homme Canon' slows right down to an electro-funk and boogie down workout.

Matt Guy's 'Give Me What I Want' is an emotive banger with big synth energy and reverberating vocals while ADHS's '2STEP' hits hard with its flaming drums and trance-y synths. Review: Adam Beyer's notable techno label Drumcode seems to be as busy as ever of late. The label here rolls out a fourth part of its ongoing A Sides series, which is now up to volume 12. Though the Swede himself doesn't feature, some of his trusty sidemen do starting with Chris Avantgarde who brings big room, hard techno energy to 'The Last Time'. Bry Ortega keeps it just as intense with the machine-gun like synth fire of 'Discover 9', Massano brings some brighter synth loops to the stomping 'Betraya' and Spektre shut down with a mix of hardcore, trance and techno potency on 'Too Far Gone.' Some great DJ weaponry here, for sure.

Review: The Spanish Hypnotic Collective label attempts to capture its take on the Detroit Legacy with what looks like a new series of various artists' EP. There is plenty of Motor City soul in the gorgeous synths of Cignol's muted acid and deep house opener 'Distance' which is a soothing and reverential groove, but then its pure party from Barce, Alex Martin offers up 313 style tech and three further tunes on the flip explore blistering electro with high-speed funk and cosmic intent. Mission accomplished and we're already looking forward to the next one.

Review: Here is the third and final chapter of the 'Systema Naturae' series on Berlin-based 012, with fresh deep techno visions from newcomers such as Daniel(i) from Belgium (Whispering Signals) who ventures into foreboding and murky territory on the off-kilter journey of 'Carabus', and there's the return of Greek producer Alex Tomb who gets into some hypnotic minimal techno on 'Paradisaea'. Elsewhere, Leipzig-based Kontinum pushes into full mental overdrive on the strobing cut 'Octandria' and finally you have the collaboration between Mary Yuzovskaya and label head Claudio PRC titled 'Marmor' which perfectly nails that ethereal Sound Of Rome vibe.

Review: Last year's superb Pura Lempuyang album has been pulled apart and served up on a couple of separate 12"s and this is the second one. It comes on limited turquoise vinyl and offers four cuts of stylish deep dub and techno. Fletcher's 'It's A Virtue' goes first with taught, twanging bass and grubby basslines then Mike Schommer's 'Kingmaker' offers liquid dub funk with watery pads and hissing static. Nicolas Barnes picks it up a little with a darker but still warm dub techno roller in 'Sonic Dial' and Redrop's 'Genesis' is the more driving of the lot but again exists right on the ocean floor.

Review: Jason Garcia, A Garcia, and M Kretsch all get the nod on this new 'Family Values EP from the Cryovca label. The techno trip finds some superb common ground in uncommon sounds here with 'Stuck In Purgatory' kicking off in urgent fashion with bumping rubbery drums and eerie pads. 'Iichabod' then slips into deep and rolling dub techno territory and 'Rock The Dance Bah' brings some playful bass guitar loops to a snappy rhythm. 'Stillgar' shows yet another look - gritty, subterranean techno full of suspenseful pads. There is plenty of real innovation across these four fantastic cuts.

Review: Drumcode's Elevate series hits a third instalment here and this time it is a three tracker with solo cuts from three big names. Tini Gessler kicks off with 'Nothing Expected' which is a teeth-gritting and white knuckle techno roller. Marie Vaunt serves up monstrously large and slamming kicks on 'Technology' and then runs them through with brutal synth lines that spray about with their own dark energy. It's a truly edgy cut before BEC's 'Humanoid' layers up hard tech drums that slam down firmly with a warped lead which leads you late into the night. A trio of high impact weapons, for sure.

Review: The Remodel label is back with a second in its series and another four chapters from another fine selection of contemporary underground talents. We don't know who is behind which track here but we do know it's a limited pressing so move fast if you want to snap up the deep rolling and moody techno of 'Chapter 5' which gets things underway. 'Chapter 6' then gets more raw and lumpy, with woody hits and heady drum rotations locking you in before 'Chapter 7' takes you up amongst the stars with more trippy cosmic keys and floats pads, then 'Chapter 8' rounds out with more dark, subterranean techno moodiness.

Review: The Aphrology EP marks a killer induction into the MOS Deep annals of excellence from Ksoul & Muteoscillator, the Italian duo who have impressed intermittently with their dense brand of techno for Uzuri and Kinda Soul Recordings (which is overseen by Ksoul himself). The two part "Criminology" opens proceedings face up, with the restrained acid leanings of the opening gambit slightly overwhelmed by the unrelenting modulated brutality of its subsequent partner. Face down and MOS Deep ringleader Aroy Dee sneaks in with his own edit of "Aphrology" before Ksoul and Muteoscillator can demonstrate the title track's prowess - it's Dee to a tee, taking the well judged house that swells with ever menacing machine squeals and adding his own subtle percussive embellishments.

Review: M Parent's penchant for texture is laid bare on this searing and arresting new EP for Zement. It opens with 'Gravel Pit' which sounds like an audio diary from a car-wrecking plant. Twisted metal, fizzing battery acid, and crushed glass all feature over a distorted baseline and broken rhythm. Those same scuzzy sounds define the rest of the EP from the acid-laced 'Ideal Future' to the coruscated funk of 'Acid Thirst' via the caustic intensity of closer Climb These Walls'. Review: After a couple of impressive releases on Madrid's Semantica Records, the enigmatic MA returns with their latest outing on Furthur Electronix sub label Shakespeare, with four deep and heady techno cuts on Japanese Swords. The A side features two functional tracks in the form of 'Katana' and 'Adachi' respectively, which although being obviously for DJ use, will work their mesmerising magic on you upon first listen - perfect for playing out in their entirety or during long mixes. But the B side is where the real energy is at, with the deep space sonar transmission of 'Tanto' followed by the strobing and cerebral energy of 'Yari'.

Review: Maahrt is the debut self titled EP from a mysterious producer about whom we know nothing.His new 12" opens up with an eerie bit of slow motion and cosmic techno with tortured pads. 'Clag' is another twisted mix of sinewy electronics and broken beats for dark back rooms, while 'Noma' then picks up the pace with a more weighted bottom end dragging its heels through an industrial wasteland. Review: There's an irresistible machine funk and chest-beating sense of attitude to this EP from Maara. It draws on proggy techno history and trance inducing electronic futurism to make for ritualistic dances that feel at once ancient yet modern. 'Spiral 2 The Other Side' is a mind-melting tunnel of psychedelic sounds, 'Take The Wheel Miss Sweetie' is similarly but more edgy and unhinged and 'Forget The World' then gets brilliantly bouncy. Closer 'Doom Quest' rounds out on skittish rubber kicks and freaky alien voices. A sublime EP for sure.

Review: Ever the champion of brains and brawn in equal measure, Maceo Plex makes his debut appearance on Drumcode with this punchy beast of a single. "Conjure Dreams" features plenty of Plex signifiers, from the rounded and rowdy bassline pump to the haunting tone of the synth lines, neatly packaged in a chunky framework of big room drums. "Conjure Floyd" meanwhile burrows into more minimal territory where the tones are amelodic and the percussion takes the lead, calling to mind the restraint and tension of classic M_nus productions where so much could be said with so little.

Review: Based in New York City and famed for his sonic experimentalism, Madteo is back with another alluring three tracker on Honest Jon's. The music is all about rugged machine funk, busted loops and lo-fi house grooves that recall the greats like Moodymann. 'Str8 Crooked' is the most loose and clattering of the lot with its knackered bassline stay down low. The amusingly titled 'Build Back Better Sweatshops' is scuffed up deep house a la STL and 'Episcopi Vagantes' is an epic 16 minute tune with spinning hi hats, wonky synthesis and plenty of cavernous soundscapes to explore at 5am on a darkened dance floor.

Review: Electro monarchs Maelstrom, Locked Club and RLGN return to EP-making with a four-track array of acid bangers, happily working together on a split record to celebrate the pan-European electro scene. Their offering is unequal in quantity (2 Maelstrom and 3 Locked Club tunes) but is resolutely equal in heat; 'LA Nuit Est A Toi' is Maelstrom's standout, bleepy and suffocating in its generative, janky fright. Locked Club and RLGN follow up, 'Kill Me' being the best and most suicidally pushy techno track to soundtrack our nightmares.

Review: Alan Dixon launches his brand new label Love Attack, the Multi Periodic Oscillations EP being a three tracker from Man Power at his curious techno best. Deep, dark and dubby, not to mention suitable for 3am needs everywhere, it opens with 'Cepheid Variable Part 1', 11 minutes of twists and turns, revolving around a hypnotic groove. Review: Raiju Manah has been making music for well over a decade under various names. He's released on some big labels and always brings the rawness to his tracks. Now he is back with a new single on the Triamb label that comes with a wealth of great remixes. The original is 'Iron Age' and it is a raved up techno track with huge siren-like stabs, cantering drums and scraping percussion. Esther Duijn remixes it into a bulky, muscular banger and 'The Noize' is then a fizzing, spitting tune with caustic textures. MSKD remixes this one into something bright and melodic and then an outro version mangles some synths and vocals into something dark.

Review: It's time to strap yourselves in for another bumpy techno trip at the hands of the Eya label. Manuk kicks off with surging drums and cantering synth lines that all face into a future space on elastic basslines. Oli Silva will be known atop any fans of Craig Richards' The Nothing Special label as that is where he debuted backed in 2017 and firstly here he goes solo on 'Mutant Mindset,' a twisted bit of cyborg techno funk. Then he links with regular collaborator Manuk for the airy jungle breaks of 'Multiple Minglings' before a punchy analogue Hi-Ryze Freedom mix closes out.

Review: Hammer time heroics from Greece's Marceldune right here as she continues to explore her unique fusion. Two parts squat party, one part IDM, three parts techno; there's a wily sense of energy and freeform fury running throughout each track. Both 'Flatten My Nerves' and 'Class Disobedience' are on the stampy side of things; lo-fi, soft-focus and raw as hell. Deeper into the EP, the brilliantly titled 'It's OK To Have No Fun' brings a little trance into the blend (especially with the industrial strength breaks of Ascion's remix) while 'Preternatural' seals the deal with a crunchy European techno stomp. Review: During the 1990s, there were few techno producers in Spain who were quite as prolific - or successful, for that matter - as Alex Martin. This superb double-pack delivers proof of the Barcelona-based artist's impressive early form by gathering together some of the best cuts he released between '94 and '98 under a variety of aliases, most notably Sideral and The Fat DB. Interestingly, there's plenty of variety to be found within the collected cuts, with sparkling sci-fi ambient ('Elipse') and deep, shuffling IDM (the acid-flecked brilliance of 'Mare Nostrum' and 'Butterly') nestling side by side with deep techno ('I Wanna Look at the Stars'), ragged futurist acid ('Incognita'), intergalactic techno ('Planetarium') and even cuts inspired by the soul, bass-weight and shuffle of the then emerging UK garage sound ('Can Make It').

Review: Mole Audio is a new label that kicks off with Andy Martin ft. Gavsborg's 'Plato & Caves' and some serious remixes of it which drill back to the origins of the dubstep sound. The featured guest here is a massive name in the Jamaican dancehall scene and a sample of his voice was the starting point for this cut. It has his full approval and is a renegade rhythm with real bounce, as is the Nit Yardman version. Dub War's legendary Bill Fuller steps up to remix fist on the flip then comes a dubby and minimalist house version from Martin to round out a solid first EP from this label.

Review: The Det 313 label is kicking off the new year with a bang and dropping a pair of brilliant new EPs on the same day in late January. This one is a reissue of the esteemed Gary Martin's 'Pimping People In High Places' on 10". It's the Woodword Ave alternative mix that kicks off and is a rough and ready percussive techno looper with hefty basslines underlapping and propping up the floor. 'The Medusa Touch' is a more wily and synth laced-late night jaunt with mystic energy and acid details that make it a deep and dramatic cut with real dynamism.

Review: For a long time Gary Martin was referred to as an "unsung hero" of Detroit techno, but with the DET 313 label, run with Yossi Amoyal, he's finally cemented a fearsome reputation as one of the Motor City's finest. With such reputations come the exchange of the proverbial "silly money" for the more hard to find recordings, thus the existence of this double 12" which collects eight of Martin's efforts from the mid to late 90s into one package available for a slightly more sensible exchange of currency. Among the highlights are the Latin-enhanced beats of 'Manhattan', two mixes of the sublime 'In Rythem' complete with a gospel preacher in full flow and a seven minute extended remaster of 'I'll Be Back I Promise' from Yossi Amoyal. It's no surprise to see Martin's work picked up and played by the likes of Ben Klock, given his unique take on rhythm, but there's plenty of soulfulness going on here as well.

Review: Feines Trier is an electronic music party and record label based in Cologne, Germany. Their latest comes from the pairing of Dominik Marz and Yannick Labbe. The three tracks on the Dune EP are "an invitation to lose oneself in textures, sounds, melodies - all wrapped up in loop-based arrangements." From the Balearic tinged minimal house of the title track, to the deeply emotive groove of ''Stay' and its moody chord progression, the EP gets off to a good start. Then Belgium's DC Salas (Correspondant) delivers a remix up next of 'Meaning' that injects a proper dose of techno and turns the track into a peak time rocker, and closing it out is the track in its original form.

Review: Electro is the gift that keeps on giving - a genre that never gets the headlines of house or techno but that, because of that, also never really falls out of favour. Meteor has long been championing the sound and now as Mascarpone heading up this new Plasmapheresis EP. 'Anger' is a turbulent cut with knick-snapping hits and lashings of chrome-plated synths that never let you settle. 'Ventatrax' picks up the pace with hurried beats and sheet metal snares blowing in a stiff solar wind. The Unklevon is pure future music with alien life forms darting about inside the mix and 'OBM Machine' shuts down at a high pace with more unrelenting electro energy.

Review: Irish man Matador has become a new school minimal techno champion with his own label Rukus part of the vanguard. Here he makes a move across the street to Damian Lazarus's Crosstown Rebels. He kicks off with 'My Yellow Coat' which is a brilliantly atmospheric cut with rolling drums and indie vocals that come over like a confessional. It's intimate and tender and perfect for late nights in a back room. On the flip is a remix from New York's techno terminator Levon Vincent who flips it into something bulky and raw, with scratch claps and grainy kicks all powering through a late-night urban landscape.

Review: Following up an inaugural release by the enigmatic DJ Playstation, we have London based Age Genesis delivering yet another outing by the mysterious producer in the form of Maukook. The Enter Maukook EP sees them serve up some hard hitting takes on classic techno forms. From the euphoric opener "Welcome To The Island" getting that soaring 303 acid glide on in full effect, to the pitch back warehouse stormer "The Rave Under Maukook". On the flip, "She Left The Party" was definitely our favourite of the bunch; this deep and evocative electro number is perfect for drifting and is reminiscent of American legends Exzakt & Excel's work from the early noughties.

Review: While NPM's first release, which dropped earlier this year, was a classical-tinged drone EP courtesy of Giulio Aldinucci, this follow-up from Brighton-based Mause explores a simultaneously melodious, skittish, picturesque and acid-fired sound that sits somewhere between ambient techno, IDM and Rephlex-style "braindance". He first opts for a deep and beautiful sound on the thoughtful 'LocriLogAcid Seq', before ratcheting up the tempo (and minor key melodies) on the sprightly 'SeqtuningMLogAcid'. Over on side B, 'Strimsang (Beacon 4)' bustles, bubbles and spits impressively to avoid easy categoriziation, while 'Sunday Multi Acid Seq20d' is high-grade IDM/ambient techno fusion that reminded us a little of Holovr's similarly 90s-inspired works.

Review: Just a year after the last reissue of this one should out, it is back again via a different label. This time American imprint Communique serve up this rare old skool reissue of Woody McBride's 'Basketball Heores' EP. Review: Chicago's Sam McQueen was a sometime collaborator with Detroit legend John Beltran on the Indio project, which gives you a fairly good idea of where he comes from artistically - think 'hi-tech soul'. His new EP Moments In Time comes out on Furthur Electronix sub label Altered Sense, and it sure is a fitting home for McQueen's sonic aesthetic. From the majestic arrangement of the title track and its glassy-eyed feelings, more melancholic and bittersweet undertones are to be experienced on the evocative "Exhale" while "Manifest Our Destiny" provides the sort of Motor City drama that would make even Carl Craig stand up and notice.

Review: This third outing from the Unveiled Nuance label is another cutting-edge techno exploration that brings together loopy techno, bass, industrial and a little something unknown across four cuts from Means&3rd. It's all fizzing pads and rusty loops that hang off the meandering rhythm of opener 'Hardship Repackaged As Growth' while 'Countenance' then strips back to a more evocative and wide open bass cavern with static electricity charging up the drums and keeping you on edge. 'Character Ethic' is an icy and heady minimalist floater then 'Desperate & Relevant' shuts down with darker bass and echoing warehouse menace.

Review: Weirdo minimal tech soul, anyone? Any takers should be directed towards this oddball release from Melchior Productions and Paul Walter. Two tracks of serious strangeness: timestretched vocals and repetitious yeahs blossom between the beat-thickets of Melchior's 'Yeah X 3', while many more percussive hits and cuts and clicks and pops and booms come courtesy of Walter's B-side, 'Xvive'. It's an impressive first foray for Maria Newyen's new imprint Scious; let's hope future 12"s stay just as weird.

Review: REPRESS ALERT!: Styrax has the rights to a great reissue of some long-lost but enduring classic cuts from Merv here. Written in 1995 and 1998 they are archetypal dub techno rollers that draw as much from the European school of Basic Channel as they do the lo-fi depths of Detroit. 'Dust' opens up with warm and humid chords over elegant and rolling beats that cannot fail to sweep you up, then 'Melted Vein' offers a more driving but no less hypnotic sound, this time with sleek tech pads peeling over the airy hi hats and bouncing kicks to take you up amongst the stars. Review: The Hubble EP was originally put out by Metroplex Social Club aka the super talented trio of Optic Nerve, Strand, Posatronix and Marty Bonds back in 2003 and it has since become a huge Detroit anthem, with iconic synths and strings. It is powered by a serious hard-assed kick drum and a lush bassline featuring three melodies at once. Review: We will likely never know what it is that makes the underground electronic scene in Detroit so fertile and unique. Whoever appears from the Motor City, they seem to have their own unique sound but one that very much gets with the historic aesthetic of the 313 area code. Enter Derek Michael who keeps up that tradition with this excellent six tracker on Detroit Underground, which arrives on nice coloured wax. His take on house end techno is deep, raw, unhurried. His drums stay low on 'Cruise Control' while the grinding bass locks you in and unsettling synths hang in the air above. 'No U Turn' is heavy and lumpy with off-grid chords adding to the loveable wonkiness.

Review: Trust is a long running Viennese electro label run by DJ Glow. Its latest release is a fierce four tracker featuring various artists, all undisputed luminaries of the electronic music scene. On the first side of Trust XY2 you have a true force to be reckoned with in the form of Microthol X Ultradyne with the sinister Detroit computer funk of 'Hostile Invasion' (Land Of Injustice mix) followed by the inimitable Peder Mannerfeldt's industrial-edged reconstruction of Clatterbox's 'Semi-Automatic'. On the second side, UK artist Second Storey provides a re-rub of another track from the Microthol back catalogue on 'Dissonanz' and finally veteran producer Alex Cortex delivers a minimal electro rework of DL-MS' track 'Last Smoke'.

Review: Mihail P brings us a 4 tracker, including a special John Shima remix. We start with the title track "Relinquish", a nice journey through deep space at a modest tempo. It features electro breaks rhythm patterns and harmonics to send you in to orbit. Following is "Shifting", a more acid tech vibe and straight 4/4 chugger, in line with proper Detroit / UK lushness from the 90's and forward. Flip to the B side for "Reliquish John Shima remix". It's hard to say which track is the peak, but this one's a contender. John Shima is known for his signature bleepy, but danceable sound. He adds layers of synth programming intelligence and great basslines as usual. Finally the B2 "Close to Zero" is the closing tune. Similar to the opener, we find more electro breaks, synth basses and a cool pad to complete the perfect journey.

Review: Jeff Mills for Axis Records. Are there any more exciting words for fans of Detroit techno? Here The Wizard assumes his MIllsart alias and once again sets off to explore extra terrestrial soundscapes. The tempo here is slower than under his own name, leaving more space for the sci-fi details and cosmic motifs to really sink in. The beats roll deep, too, with gentle percussive clatter dropped in from above. In the case of 'Breaker Breaker One Nine' the sound is almost Glenn Underground-esque. It is the EP highlight, though the glistening 'The Upside Down' is not far behind.

Review: Minimal Man is the legendary studio partnership between Eon (aka Ian Loveday) and Baby Ford. They cooked up some of minimal's most essential tunes some 20-odd years ago and they have become expensive and highly sought after since. This EP is one of them and it features three killer cuts that will move a dancefloor as much today as ever. 'Make A Move' has a pent-up energy and forward drive that sweeps you up and keeps you locked amongst soft hi-hats and vamping chords. Part 2 is a little darker and more mysterious, with the drum loops a little edgier and the mood that bit more mischievous. 'Stay On' closes down with bubbling drum funk and swirling abstract synth world from deep inside some distant nebula in the sky.

Review: Matt Cheon & Co. unearth yet more rare gems from old school electro fiends Caroline Herve & Michael Amato here, on the second volume of Lost Trax. As story has it, after the French duo met at a rave in their native Grenoble in the early '90s, they made music heavily influenced by 80s synth, post-punk and Italo disco. Bored by the techno scene at the time, they set out out to lighten the serious tone and bring a campy sexiness to the dour musical landscape. From the sexy, four-to-the-floor EBM of "Upstart", the Drexciyan style "Love On" with its aquatic bass assault, or the classic Miss Kittin & The Hacker sound of old on the monochromatic" The Building" featuring the former's trademark deadpan vocal delivery.

Review: Deep Shopping has us filly our trolleys once more with plenty of top-shelf goods here. Mister Bellini is the one on the till and his elastic, bouncy techno is all about pure thrills. The restless and characterful 'What What?!' opens up with plenty of joyfulness. The sound design throughout these tunes is fresh and fun but never silly. 'Stop The Buz' is a little tougher but still with some tripped-out motifs, then 'yes' is a hyperspeed spin-out. On the flip side are squelchy future bass bangers, police sirens and low-key basement tracks. Brilliant EP.

Review: Woody McBride and Dave Stevens worked together as Modal back in the mid-90s. Hardcore diggers have been banging their beats for a while but they're not that easy to find so thankfully the Sounds label reissues this collection go thumpers from 1997. It is a hefty double back of raw but soulful beats with rough edges, sharp hits and brilliantly unpolished drums. 'Quadruple Take' is a real sweatathon, 'Carnivalesque' brings the fun with rolling boogie-woogie pianos and further highlights included the silky and spaced out tech of 'Beautiful Music'.
