Review: Long-standing Dutch acid-electro outpost Zodiak Commune are back with another trip into the creepy underbelly of the scene guided by the combined powers of Sound Synthesis and Acidulant. On the A-side of the record, the pair join forces for a collaboration they call Raim, in which they deliver creepy pads, edgy arpeggios and slamming beats aplenty. 'Zenhiser 303' in particular has a seductively dystopian tone which will be perfect for when you want to take the party somewhere darker. On the flip, Acidulant goes it alone for the downright nasty machine funk of 'Institutionize Planet X' while Sound Synthesis creates a widescreen extension of the A-side vibe with the epic 'Protect Our Freedom'.

Review: Italian label Weapons of Mass Love kicks off with its first vinyl release here - and a pretty one it is too with an all-pink 12". Riko Forinson is the man in charge of the originals and he pairs hefty drum weight with cosmic synth work on the house slash techno opener 'Portamento'. 'Hi' has some leggy drum funk at its core with detuned chords, filtered vocals and squelchy effects adding the details. 'Door Bell' picks up with some squelchy electronic house funk and then a version of 'Hi' featuring Benoit and Butane's Glide remix of 'Portamento' close out an atmospheric house EP.

Review: The eighth missive from Alan Fitzpatrick's We Are The Brave comes from the ascendant Paul Roux, a Barcelona-based producer who follows up impressive efforts on Arts Collective and Rapid Eye Movement. 'Emperia' is an austere offering balanced by majestic Millsian style strings and underpinned by a steely rhythm department, while 'Cosmic Blues' conjures up an evocative and sensual atmosphere on this restrained cut, before returning to the main room with the pummeling peak time onslaught of 'Loveland' which will have you losing your mind under the strobelights.

Review: Well travelled techno auteur Regent finds himself next up on the small but already fiercely formed Warg label with four blistering new cuts. 'Elekta' is a full bodied one with weighty drum funk overlaid by a tight weave of bright synths. 'Bygone' is more straight ahead, a buoyant cut with oversized hi-hats and synths peeling off at pace. 'Moonburn' thumps with real intent as it races along at 100 miles an hour and last of all 'Submerged' gets you into a 5am zoned out state. All four of these are useful, characterful cuts once more from Regent.

Review: Mikkel Rev presents UTE 013, a captivating sonic journey through the realms of trance music. This four-track EP on the Norwegian label UTE. REC showcases the artist's versatility and mastery of the genre. 'Zygo' pulsates with a frenetic energy, its psychedelic trance rhythms evoking an otherworldly sci-fi ambiance. 'Tone Control' leans towards Goa trance, its alien basslines and science fiction aesthetics creating a gripping narrative. For the second side, 'Whorl' offers a more uplifting and ethereal experience, transporting listeners to vast cosmic spaces. The piece of wax concludes with 'Tension', a 90s-style German techno track that showcases Rev's ability to fuse classic elements with modern innovation. Overall, a very strong window into a current artist's views of the history of the genre.

Review: The no-frills Unrillis label strikes again here with some high-octane and brain-frying techno thrillers from Ritzi Lee. 'Drive System' is a multi-layered cacophony of cantering drums and bristling synths next to vast, rusty, distorted hi-hat ringlets. 'Positive Displacement' is another loopy one with metallic hooks, pulsing bass and a relentless sense of forward motion. On the flip, Lee gets the machines to squeal and hiss and draws them out over a more minimal drum line. 'Detonation' is a bright, melodic, and 90s techno classic. Lots of variety here makes this a top EP.

Review: Ahmed Dawoud hails from Egypt but is based in Barcelona, and as Raxon he's steadily built up a powerful brand of peak time big room techno and house which is reliably rocking labels like Kompakt, Ellum Audio, Drumcode and Truesoul. It's the latter - a sublabel from Adam Beyer - he returns to with this mammoth two-tracker, leading in with the captivating synth hooks and chunky drums of 'Cosmic Cure' before following up with the snaking buzzes and creaks of 'Conscious Technologies' on the B side, positively summoning the AI sprites and unleashing them on his stadium-sized crowds.

Review: Raton has grown to be a quite an integral part of Drumcode as well as the underground at large and now after previously working on the likes of Ellum Audio he finds himself in the studio with techno bigwig, Adam Beyer. The pair cook up two versions of the same cut here. 'The Signal' (Night mix) is a dramatic cut with an epic baseline and space-age synth craft over chunky drums that are constantly on the rise. 'The Signal' (Day mix) is a much more melodic and light cut but has just as much low-end heft. Both of these tunes give you an insight into how big name DJs like this see techno working in different settings.

Review: TRNWORK is a brand new label from Detroit native Pablo R Ruiz which he says will explore the darker side of the dance floor. The first release sure is a head-turner that opens with 'Bust It Out' (Raw mix). The drums are militant and scuffed up while off-grid claps and woozy pads bring extra dynamism. The Deep Mix then pairs it back to twitchy synths and minimal drums, and then a RELB Infinite Jek remix quickens the groove but keeps it dark, late night and moody. 'Vivelo' is the closer that will trip out any floor with its whirring synths and bleeps over crunchy drum funk.

Review: Regis and Female's Againstnature album from 2000 gets the full reissue treatment here by Berlin label, Tresor. Released under their given names Karl O'Connor and Peter Sutton, the record is a noted zenith of the Birmingham techno scene of the era. It has had a major influence on the music that was released in the years after and has here been remastered for a fresh double vinyl pack. As well as the original sounds, there is also 'Theme From Streetwalke,' a track that was previously released on a Tresor compilation. The tracks are heavy but relatively stripped back. They're packed with texture and atmosphere and never less than hugely compelling.

Review: The smudged, dark and shadowy nature of the creepy artwork for this new 12" on TMN Trax is indicative of what to expect musically of this new label. It's a collab EP from Ones and Rasval with an appearance from The Metropolitan Narrative and remixes from Vril and Sleeparchive. 'Tau' is the deep and dubby roller that opens up with a grainy vibe and foggy atmosphere over muted drums, then 'Nebelgelb' gets more edgy with layers of subtle haunting pads and paranoid voices panning about the mix. Vril's contribution is a pacey, warm and lo-fi techno hypnotiser and Sleeparchive closes down with muted dub brilliance.

Review: It is no mean feat to emerge with our own unquietly original sound but that's just what Lauren Bush aka RE:NI did with twisted, tightly interwoven but languid rhythms. Now Bush is back with a debut EP on Timedance that fuses techno, bass and something else into a potent quartet of high-class dancefloor rhythms. 'BURSTTRAP' rocks back and forth on its heels with chattery percussion, 'Blame Is The Name Of The Game' layers up skittish fragments of percussion and rhythm into a scattered groove that has great big hits up top and sounds like it exists in an empty old factory. 'Below Sanpaku' is even more decaying and depraved and 'BeautySick' shuts down with another dubbed-out and mesmerising fusion of sounds.

'Die Zeit' does everything you would expect a track from this pair to do - it has the powerful linear drums, the rumbling bass lines and the epic synth craft that lights up a vast sky above. It's a tense rollercoaster with a grand ambition and lasting impact. A Synthapella is also included on the flip for even more of that melodic intensity.

Marc Romboy & Sinisa Tamamovic goes first and make it into a steamy, weighty but deep and pulsing track that drips with sweat and lust. Review: Sushitech presents the last part of its 15th anniversary reissues series. Timeless reworks of Paul St. Hilaire & Rhauder's now classic 2018 release 'Reconstructed', featuring legendary producers such as Rominimal heroes Amorf who provide a typically hypnotic reinterpretation of Control, Dutch minimal house maestro Ion Ludwig retains the dubby elements of the original on his rework of 'Stabilized' and likewise Steve O'Sullivan remains in glacial and cavernous territory on another sublime perspective of 'Control'. Elsewhere, Thomas Melchior serves up a typically arcane venture into the deep on his version of 'Dim Dim', while the much missed Soulphiction provides the perfect majestic backdrop for St. Hilaire's amazing vocals play centre stage on his version of 'Redeem'.

Review: Richard Lamb's second album under this alias, Salt Lick, is also most likely going to be his last. It is a special one though, as you would expect from the man born Ricard Wenger. The title tune opens with tribal hand drums and smeared synths next to twanging guitar riffs then 'A Life In Harmony' takes off on glassy melodies and celestial electro rhythms. Further deep space explorations follow as does the downbeat dreamscape 'May I Dance With You.'
