Review: M Parent's penchant for texture is laid bare on this searing and arresting new EP for Zement. It opens with 'Gravel Pit' which sounds like an audio diary from a car-wrecking plant. Twisted metal, fizzing battery acid, and crushed glass all feature over a distorted baseline and broken rhythm. Those same scuzzy sounds define the rest of the EP from the acid-laced 'Ideal Future' to the coruscated funk of 'Acid Thirst' via the caustic intensity of closer Climb These Walls'. An impressively unique offering that very much has its own singularly sound palette.

Review: There's an irresistible machine funk and chest-beating sense of attitude to this EP from Maara. It draws on proggy techno history and trance inducing electronic futurism to make for ritualistic dances that feel at once ancient yet modern. 'Spiral 2 The Other Side' is a mind-melting tunnel of psychedelic sounds, 'Take The Wheel Miss Sweetie' is similarly but more edgy and unhinged and 'Forget The World' then gets brilliantly bouncy. Closer 'Doom Quest' rounds out on skittish rubber kicks and freaky alien voices. A sublime EP for sure.

Review: Following up releases by the likes of Mark Seven, Florist and Cygnus, Ari Goldman's Washington D.C-based World Building returns with this awesome varioust artist compilation. Neighborhood Watch Volume One features a wide selection of moods and grooves: NativeSun vs JamesBangura get stuck into some dark dubstep on 'Demon Mode' much like The Khan does later on the deeply meditative 'Part Of Me (Ode To DC), while Sami gets their swing on with the classic house of 'Marty & Jack', Juana's tunneling 'It's Low' gives you a dose of heroin house and over on the flip Max D gets deep down and dirty on 'No Snare'.

Review: Having already served up plenty of (in his words), "heaters and panel beaters", Mella Dee delivers a four-track hit of bona-fide rug cutters. He first fuses sweat-soaked and stomping house beats, bassline house style organ bass and giddy female vocal samples on the energy-packed 'Cutting Snakes (Keep on Moving)', before reaching for fuzzy analogue bass, squelchy TB-303 motifs, breathless vocal snippets and more grade-A drums on 'Bumps (You Say)'. The South Yorkshire producer successfully breaks up the beats on the warehouse-ready excellence of 'Cutters (They Don't Get It)', while 'Pay No Mind (Who Am I)' is a bouncy, garage-influenced early morning workout full of deep sub bass, haunting male vocal samples and infectious organ stabs.

Review: Peder Mannerfelt's high-sheen techno is in an advanced state of mutation at this point in time, and so it finds a perfect home on Blawan and Pariah's equally non-conformist Voam. This is the third EP the plucky Swede has graced the label with, and there's no shortage of fresh and fierce fireworks setting off across all four tracks. 'Pumping Plastics' is centred around staccato stabs that sound like a template for a hard dance genre which is yet to exist. 'Vankelmotor' has lithe, creeping textural work which sounds like rubber on rubber in the pleasure parlour while the band donks on. 'Eurotrashed' has a grubbier, mechanical techno impetus which fires off pistons of percussive pressure in pursuit of any remaining shreds of sanity, a quarry which remains elusive as we derail into the twitchy tension of 'Liquid Rattan Mainframe'. Superlative, in all the best ways.

Review: This third outing from the Unveiled Nuance label is another cutting-edge techno exploration that brings together loopy techno, bass, industrial and a little something unknown across four cuts from Means&3rd. It's all fizzing pads and rusty loops that hang off the meandering rhythm of opener 'Hardship Repackaged As Growth' while 'Countenance' then strips back to a more evocative and wide open bass cavern with static electricity charging up the drums and keeping you on edge. 'Character Ethic' is an icy and heady minimalist floater then 'Desperate & Relevant' shuts down with darker bass and echoing warehouse menace.

Review: Trust is a long running Viennese electro label run by DJ Glow. Its latest release is a fierce four tracker featuring various artists, all undisputed luminaries of the electronic music scene. On the first side of Trust XY2 you have a true force to be reckoned with in the form of Microthol X Ultradyne with the sinister Detroit computer funk of 'Hostile Invasion' (Land Of Injustice mix) followed by the inimitable Peder Mannerfeldt's industrial-edged reconstruction of Clatterbox's 'Semi-Automatic'. On the second side, UK artist Second Storey provides a re-rub of another track from the Microthol back catalogue on 'Dissonanz' and finally veteran producer Alex Cortex delivers a minimal electro rework of DL-MS' track 'Last Smoke'.

Review: Raiju Manah has been making music for well over a decade under various names. He's released on some big labels and always brings the rawness to his tracks. Now he is back with a new single on the Triamb label that comes with a wealth of great remixes. The original is 'Iron Age' and it is a raved up techno track with huge siren-like stabs, cantering drums and scraping percussion. Esther Duijn remixes it into a bulky, muscular banger and 'The Noize' is then a fizzing, spitting tune with caustic textures. MSKD remixes this one into something bright and melodic and then an outro version mangles some synths and vocals into something dark.

Review: Berlin by-way-of Vancouver duo Minimal Violence are up next on the mighty Berlin institution Tresor, which as both a label and club is back with a vengeance. On Phase 3 we've got four stern and austere techno cuts with serious attitude; whether it's the pitch black TBM punishment of opener 'Flatline' featuring Mad Johnny's screaming vocals, the old-school rave mish-mash of 'Cold' (Sex) incorporating classic motifs like Menstasms, breakbeats, whistles and warehouse techno aesthetics, or the extreme noise terror of 'Focus On That Form' on the B-side that veers violently between jungle and gabber. Review: Minimal Man is the legendary studio partnership between Eon (aka Ian Loveday) and Baby Ford. They cooked up some of minimal's most essential tunes some 20-odd years ago and they have become expensive and highly sought after since. This EP is one of them and it features three killer cuts that will move a dancefloor as much today as ever. 'Make A Move' has a pent-up energy and forward drive that sweeps you up and keeps you locked amongst soft hi-hats and vamping chords. Part 2 is a little darker and more mysterious, with the drum loops a little edgier and the mood that bit more mischievous. 'Stay On' closes down with bubbling drum funk and swirling abstract synth world from deep inside some distant nebula in the sky.

Review: DJ Nobu & NHK yx Koyxen new MTV moniker is something only The Trilogy Tapes could come up with, and it's another fine addition to the label's infamous web blog, which contains all sorts of outlandish sounds from every corner of the globe. "Snow Ball" and "Smart Ball", on the A-side, are two sides of the same coin; the former bleeps placidly to an eerie groove of molecular hypnotics, while the latter enters the rave with a slow yet brutalist assortment of bass bumps. "Smooth Motion" is a fuzzy, imperceptible techno experiment in the same style as Thomas Brinkmann's oddities, and "Look Back Motion" rattles an itchy, acid-driven stomper over a bare-bones groove that has TTT stamped all over it. Review: When you call your label The Purist you pretty much lay out your statement of sonic intent from the off. This second outing is another one that offers up unabashed cosmic tech from the depths of some distant universe. Muzin is the artist at the helm and 'Woone' opens up with mind-melting synths and linear beats that will appeal to fans of the likes of Jeff Mills and Luke Slater. 'Kiln' gets more intense but still makes an art form of intertwining synths and drums to languid effect and 'Parsel' then has a more minimal design but equally heady impact. A trio of flipside joints tweak the template in subtle but stylish fashion.

Review: Gary Martin has long been a superb techno servant who has popped up on all sorts of different labels. It is now on Teknotika where he appears with an ode to the Motor City in the form of his DeTR8 Luv EP. It features the eponymous original track in three different forms. The Tenor mix is first and brings some wild sax horns to play over thudding and tightly programmed techno drums. The Detscientists mix is a more tightly coiled and stripped back full of menace and pent-up energy and last of all is the Alto mix, a deep and dubby house sound with those menacing sax motifs back once again to cause playful carnage.
