Review: In celebration of their tenth birthday, Selador marks the occasion in style with a four-track collaborative EP, featuring tracks from 3D, Robert Owens, Olivier Giacomotto, Quivver, Dave Seaman, Hernan Cattaneo, Argia, and Jepe. The opening track, 'Known Love', is a deep, pulasting house tune that feels like an instant classic, perhaps thanks to the soulful, pop-tinged vocals - think LCD soundsystem meets Four Tet. 'Snailblazer', the second track on the EP, takes a much darker turn, with a chugging, EBM-esque feel. Full-bodied and complete with obscured vocals, this is the kind of track to pull out your bag when it's time to really get stuck in. On the B-side, 'Napkin Knowledge' draws on the glistening synths of eurodance, yet still securing the melodies to a grounded bassline and rhythm section. It's a fine various artists affair that kicks off with Acid Washed and the legendary Arnaud Rebotini. Their 'Brandtaucher' is a polished metal and electro tinged disco cut with bleeping melodies. Seb El Zin then keeps it real raw with 'Lingua Minimalista' and the energy doesn't dip on Rambal Cochet's flip side opener 'Oseary Drakoulias' races to the star on slap funk bass and cruising melodies. Mount Kismet's 'Sirocco' rides on rugged arps and last of all Danton Eeprom's 'L'Homme Canon' slows right down to an electro-funk and boogie down workout.

Label chief Adam Beyer presents 'Restore My Soul' featuring Chicago hard techno veteran DJ Rush, their relationship stretching back nearly three decades from when they both started out in the' 90s. The title track is aimed squarely at the main room dancefloor; a seething, mental groove featuring Rush's stern vocal delivery atop, before taking the energy levels into the peak time on the adrenalised thrasher 'Control'. Review: The recently formed Alienist Rec has done a fine job of setting out its sonic stall so far and now the label looks to a pair of artists to take care of one side each of their third 12". Starting things off is promising young Moroccan producer Chaou B with the twitchy disco-techno of 'Instinct' and its flashes of synth light. 'Untitled Groove' is another intergalactic stomper wired up with pixelated leads. Review: The Spanish Hypnotic Collective label attempts to capture its take on the Detroit Legacy with what looks like a new series of various artists' EP. There is plenty of Motor City soul in the gorgeous synths of Cignol's muted acid and deep house opener 'Distance' which is a soothing and reverential groove, but then its pure party from Barce, Alex Martin offers up 313 style tech and three further tunes on the flip explore blistering electro with high-speed funk and cosmic intent. Mission accomplished and we're already looking forward to the next one.

Look no further than this quality split release for all the proof you need, as Lucas Croon threads Balearic, prog and trance together before the label bosses (Hektisch Sprengen DJs) weave some mystical mantras of their own and Dea revels in boxy Chicago jack crossed with Island boogie. It's an eclectic mix to be sure, with another three joints taking in uptempo proto-trance and anthemic emo-acid-breaks aplenty. Review: D Dan is fast becoming a fan favorite in the techno scene, with multiple releases on the high profile Lobster Theremin label. This is the third release on his own label, Summerpup, and the second from himself. 'Rising' is a white knuckle ride of hard techno reminiscent of Ben Sims, Surgeon and Bryan Zentz, while 'Freak' and 'Hide & Seek' are demented storytellers in the science fiction genre. Think Jeff Mills and Axis. For the second side, 'Organic Mechanism' is a percussive and eerie workout for the headstrong. Fans of Tresor, Johannes Heil, Regis, Oliver Ho and the like should feel right at home with these uptempo loops and late 90s sounds.

As always, he serves up thrilling, hard hitting techno that has you clenching both your fists and your teeth as you buckle in for the white knuckle ride. "Switchblade" kicks off with distorted drums and urgent synth stabs that race along at 100 miles an hour. "Mutant Force" is just that with its tortured synths and surging drums, then burn out offers a dystopian take on mind warping Mills-ian techno. There is slightly deeper, warmer stuff on the flipside that carries you to the very fringes of the galaxy.

Review: There's only one word for this 1996 release from Donnell Knox aka D-Knox - blistering. Originally released on Jay Denham's Black Nation Records in 1996, it's become a highly sought after 12" and now appears having been remastered by Tim Xavier and reissued on Knox's own Sonic Mind label.
It's not hard to see why it was so in demand. 'Total Concentration' starts with drum machines set to stun and the mixing desk pushed to the edge of distortion. 'Deep Meditation' is smoother but still has the speed and crunch of its companion on the A-side. 'Mind Calming' has an almost industrial thump to it, minimal and brutal in all the right ways. It hurts, but it hurts good.

Review: After having two of his earlier tunes remodelled by Carl Craig and Mike Huckaby thanks to Sushitech, Detroit's Delano Smith re-emerges on the label with a double pack of tunes made with Brawther under the D&B Productions. That moniker has more to do with the pair's name rather than a suddenly conversion to drum & bass, although there's a love of dubby effects and deep bass power here that - at a stretch - could be said to be in common. The six tracks - Symbiosis' 1-6 - are smooth and simple, but executed with an ear (or four) for an irresistible groove, an economic but rhythmic keyboard stab and a knack for squeezing something nicely soulful from the barest ingredients. Nice work indeed.

Review: We're Going Deep is run by Placid aka Paul Wise and it has roots that go back many, many years. The music it puts out remains at the very cutting edge though as this new one proves. It comes from D5, UK underground favourites, and here they offer up a trio of super stylish cuts of deep and sleek techno. 'RedAnalysis' is a bumping one with nice prickly percussion and trippy melodies, then 'BlackAnalysis' gets more soulful and smears Detroit synths over tightly bobbling kick drums. 'Noanalysis' closes out somewhere between the two with warm atmosphere and cool groove to spare.

Review: Canada's Aquaregia comes of age with a 20th EP that continues in its own tradition of serving up emotional techno rollercoasters. Nicola Dal Sacco is behind this one with opener 'Wirrwarr' layering in bright tartan chords to deep linear drums. 'Gelato' takes on a more undulating form with soft acid lines changing shape throughout and 'Parapiglia' layering up more deft acid, progressive melodies and serene synths. 'Linea' flips the script with a slow-motion dub cut for late-night star-gazing. This is well-crafted techno with a real emotional impact.

Review: Pietro 'Peter' Macaluso has been around for some time, operating between Berlin and his native Sicily, though remarkably this is the first time his productions have been showcased on vinyl. It comes via Balance Recordings, with boss man Chez Damier acting as 'executive producer'. There's much to admire across the EP, from the suspenseful, alien electronics and slow-build groove of deep Afro-tech bubbler 'Low Pressure (Afro-Acid Mix)', and the light-touch deep house hypnotism of 'Feel Me (Deep Mix)', where DJ Ronaldo-esque synth string sounds catch the ear, to the ultra-deep techno haziness of 'Cantico (Synth Wave Mix)' and the tough, bleeping throb of 'Take It Off (Techno Mix)'.

Review: Following up the inaugural release by Braintalk, Zurich-based label Human Sense Technology returns for its second edition here, this time from hometown hero Dan Piu. He rebooted his career after a 16 year hiatus a few years ago and has been more prolific than ever, with releases on Childhood Electronix, Cartulis, and Hizou Deep Rooted Music. The Modern Utopia Thoughts EP is dedicated to his youth and influenced by future visions of creation, featuring early '90s UK techno sounds that are very much in fashion at the moment ('Dysfunctional / 'Libertarian On A Mission') deep subterranean 303 acid journeys Modern (the title track) and classic Chicago house tropes as heard on 'The NATA Liaison'.

Review: The Dance Mafia has united once again for more militant techno vibes from the Russian Federation. This is a third outing from this label and another one with plenty of charms as well as real dancefloor clout. 'Thick 'n' Scary' kicks off with a mix of punchy drums but sleazy vocal sounds. 'So Phat-Phat' (Vocawlz) is dusty, lo-fi and menacing stripped-back house with ghetto overtones and 'Errrybody' (Cheesebomb Rmx) is another one with nice frayed edges and lived-in grooves that pair function with form to great effect. Closing out this useful EP is 'So Phat-Phat' (Duuubb) which is one for the heads.

Review: The talented Greek duo Artificial DRM - already renowned for their contributions to Koslif, De Stijl and Semantica Records - come through for the sixth Alpengluhen release. 'Enigma' is a curious experimental, IDM and ambient release, neither settling for out-and-out categorisability nor giving up the danceable ends of things and happily resting in the crosstalk between genres. All circling around similar tempi but with some variation therein, these four unnamed tracks reveal themselves, together with their textural details, only as slowly as a desert landscape might reveal itself to a parched wanderer; only through somatic repetitions, such as endless walking, panting, and squinting - compare these to deep listening and/or uninterrupted turntable playing - might we make out the mirages or fata morgana through the horizontal heat haze.

MBM then gets more busy with the percussive clatter of 'Crystalline' and Polygonia's aqueous dub techno roller 'Pearl Of Nian' is another unusual sound that draws you in deep. Toki Fuko's '9128' is more menacing and sounds like a deserted factory floor after all the staff have left and V?RYA's 'Dome' is a twitchy and restless broken beat excursion that has you looking over your shoulder.

Review: Shall Not Fade has proven over the last five plus years that whatever sounds it turns its hand to it does with style. Mostly that is deep house and garage but here we have some warehouse-ready techno from Dasco. 'Powerful Woman' has mid-tempo drums that are run through with a supple and subtle acid line and repeated vocal phrasings that lock you into the trip. 'Acid Queen' jacks a bit more, with raw analogue drums and vintage cow bell sounds before the 303 takes over, then Johannes Volk really bangs the box with his hardcore house remix, full of splintered kicks and dusty hi hats. Chicago Skyway brings plenty of Windy City texture to his version.

Review: Sound Metaphors has lined up a bunch of killer EPs to drop in quick fashion and this one from Data features several different versions of one fantastic single. 'Extroscopic' is deft techno with nimble baselines and light synths that float through space on the Extroscopic version while the dub is even more warm and bubbly. 'Extroscopic' (Trancextro Scopie) has more trance-tinged chord work and then Anatolian Weapons turns out a more psychedelic version with silvery percussive chatter and last of all a Deep Mix that is indeed a heads down back room techno trip.

'Pour Toi' kick off this particular party with high speed tech funk loops and crashing hits that demand you dance while wonky synth lines unfold up top. Review: For the legendary label Tresor to put out a breakbeat record is something very rare. The ardent techno label for over 30 years is clearly telling us without saying, how good this music is. Tresor is always in touch with rave music though and it's not fully surprising that Tresor would support any music that is so reminiscent of the old skool days like Digital Entropy is. Datashader rises from the depths to give us their wicked debut. Review: David Spanish wrote this now cult EP back in the mid-nineties. It has been plucked from the annals of time - and out of the hands of the second hand market sharks - for reissue on Distangled, a sub-label of Dutch imprint Frame Of Mind. 'Data Society' is perfectly supple and seductive bleep techno for mind-melting 4am trips and the rest of the superb EP touches on lo-fi dub techno on '3D Bingo', peak time cosmic cruises like 'Child Wave' and bumping party pumpers such as 'Fashion F.' It might be some 30 years old, but it is still as effective as anything new you might hear this month.

Review: Dawl is behind the first two drops on the new Under The Radar label and they are dropping in quick succession. 'Unleash The Sound' opens up and doesn't mess about as it first lasers from a machine gun and old school jungle breaks smash away below. 'Sound Reckage' then pairs a bold bassline with bleeping dial tones and distant rave motifs while 'Visitor' is intergalactic warfare with all manner of scraping hits and cosmic lines, sharp snares and bumping drums. Review: 2023 marks the tenth anniversary of Darren Woollard's debut release as DAWL. Since then, he's carved out his own niche as a maker of blisteringly good, retro-futurist blends of breakbeat hardcore, bleep, acid and electro. This trademark sound comes to the fore on opener 'Hear This', where alien bleeps, soundman samples and rushing riffs ride sweat-soaked breakbeat, before coming into sharper focus on the warped, analogue-rich, LFO-influenced bleep shuffle of 'Dark Chemistry'. Woollard adds a touch of funk to proceedings on energetic bleep and breaks workout 'Mindtrix', before once more reaching for dial-tone melodies, deep and dubby bass and clattering machine drums on killer closing cut 'I Control The Energy'.

Review: Following some riveting releases on Dext, Illegal Alien and Planet Rhythm, Russia's Dawn Razor returns this week with a bunch of left-of-centre cuts on Lauren Chalmers and Paul Patterson's Of Paradise. Prepare to enter another world on the cavernous and glacial broken beat dub of 'Scary Movies' on the first side (which gets a deep dubstep rework by Yushh Dusk later on) followed by the off-kilter and bass-driven trip that is 'Getting'. Over on the flip, 'Esvedra' jumps between junglist and four-to-the-floor beats in impressive fashion, making for one seriously wild ride.

Review: Analogue is the Greek label which takes no prisoners in its pursuit of pure techno perfection and that's abundantly clear on this latest Various Artists drop, as Dax J kicks into gear with the searing, pummelling intensity of 'Ares'. It's a proper fist-shaker which sets you up for the hi-octane rumble of Kaiser's 'Kal' and ANFS' industrial jackhammer 'Amete'. That leaves Jerm to clean up with another weapons grade sheller driving ever-downwards in the ultimate ticket to peak time submission. Review: Hardwax affiliated label The Final Experiment is back with some real proper stuff by scene staple Rene Pawlowitz aka Shed/Head High, who premieres a new alias here as DD 2. The soulful and suspense-filled drama of A side cut 'Infinite' is a true zeitgeist of the early '90s Detroit-Berlin connection, and reminiscent of Tresor releases during said era that will have you reaching for the lasers. Over on the flip, we have something a bit more familiar of him in the form of galloping 'power house' cut 'Scattered Blue' with its epic chord progression and trademark drum programming, reminiscent of his Wax series some years back. Review: There is no messing with this new EP from The Final Experiment crew in Germany. They tap up DD 3 for two tracks of stylish, impactful techno that locks you in from the off. It's 'Fences' which does so with its tightly woven kicks and bass - punchy but fluid, they are overlaid with dancing synth arps that bring light and soul. 'ATCX' is then a minimal cut with frosted synths fizzing about the mix over jangling chords and deeply buried kicks that grow ever louder in the mix. It's a thrilling and fresh sound for sure.

Review: Dark Entries label regulars De-Bons-en-Pierre are back with more of their scuzzy delights in the form of their Card Short of a Full Deck EP. It's drenched in textbook sludginess as is often the way with Beau Wanzer and Maoupa Mazzochetti ever since they came together in 2016. These tunes were all originally written back in 2019 for live performances and really find the pair pushing at the boundaries of accepted social norms. The absurd sounds pair skipping rhythms with dark and freaky basslines and plenty of eerie rave chords to make for an all-new kind of dance floor energy.

Review: In more recent years, Madrid's Eduardo De La Calle has brought us some muscly, steely-eyed techno through his own Analog Solutions imprint, but the artist's reach spans back to the early noughts and to labels such as Hard Fandango and Thump Electroniks, when his particular strain of techno had already been overshadowed by the foreboding minimal wave. However, fine connoisseurs such as Boddika can smell out a real talent and this is why the Nonplus man has decided to release a second EP from the enigmatic producer. Much to the traditional Boddika taste, "Papoose Lake" is a watery piece of atmospheric techno with a driving rhythm; the same can be said about "Groom Lake" even when considering its more molecular approach. Over on the B-side, "SDI" breaks out the jungle loops amid a stop-start technoid rhythm of industrial proportions, and "Sandia Livermore Lab" heads directly to the big room with its effective 4/4 loop and range of organised sonics. Review: Having spent much of the last few years working alongside Lou Savary in cold-wave revivalists Reymour, Luc Bersier has decided to go solo as Marcel Die Sie. His debut release, which also happens to be the inaugural EP of the Rababoo label, naturally inhibits a similar sonic space to his work with Savary, with each of the three original cuts on show offering a mixture of chugging, mid-tempo grooves, wayward electronics, early '80s new wave synth sounds and a subtly psychedelic mood. There are similarly impressive remixes on the flip too, with De Roo's moody, occasionally spacey IDM style take on 'Poetic Frame' being followed by a hypnotic, acid-fired and trance-inducing interpretation of the same track by Dark Entries artist Anatolian Weapons.

Review: Dutch techno stalwart Robert Vosmeijer is De Sluwwe Los, and he is next up on the Deeptrax label to continue its notable run of recent form. This 12" comes with a die-cut sleeve and fix sizzling deep techno cuts. The first taps into the early Detroit sound with plenty of machine soul and 'Solar Orince' then layers up nice harmonics and dancing rhythms into something perfectly serene. 'Terraforming' then takes off on a more thudding low end and 'Jupiter's Universe' is a glistening synth techno excursion to the stars. 'Crawford' closes out with a more introspective feel but more deft synth designs.

Review: On Rave On Time, her third EP of 2020, Charlotte De Witte giddily pays tribute to the throbbing, warehouse-ready techno sound of her home city of Ghent - and particularly the intense, mind-bending brand particularly associated with R&S Records in the early 1990s. De Witte sets the tone via the razor-sharp and insanely heavy title track, where ragged acid lines and spiky synth stabs leap above a stomping techno groove, before opting for drums, drums and more drums on the restless 'There's No One Left To Trust'. Acid techno is the order of the day on 'The World Inside' and 'Common Era', while triple-time closing cut 'Wahr Ist Sie Dann' is an odd, alien-sounding treat.

Review: Charlotte de Witte takes care of the sixth outing on her ever more prominent KNTXT label, and does so with her usual sense of techno power. "Sgadi Li Mi" opens in hard hitting fashion, with laser-link synths shooting across the face of the cantering drums and distant vocal cries adding a churchy feel to the arrangement. "Return To Nowhere" dials it back to a more shuffling techno groove and "Ensemble" offers perfectly transcendental techno for late night reveries. Enchanting ambient vocal "What's In The Past" closes out a forceful EP.
