Review: Following the release of his blisteringly heavy Funfzig album on Rekids last year, Mark Broom returns to Matt Edwards' imprint with a teaser for the hotly anticipated follow-up, 100% Juice. As you'd expect, there's no messing around from the UK techno veteran, with opener '100% Juice (Sampler Mix)' delivering a bowel-bothering, cranium-snapping blend of rave-igniting, minor key stabs, booming bass and stomping beats. In contrast, 'Contingo' is trippy in tone thanks to all manner of overlapping synth lines, while 'Nod To The D' sees Broom blend his own drum machine-driven take on techno with vintage Motor City sounds. There are rave bangers on the a-side filled with uplifting melodies and on the flip is IDM and electro fuelled by funk. Another superb EP for fans old and new.

Review: The big room techno don that is Adam Beyer is back with more potent techno weaponry on his own Drumcode label, this time with part two of the 12th volume of his A-Sides series. His 'Take Me There' is first up in remix form and Carl Cox flips it into a surging peak time roller. Matt Guy's 'Give Me What I Want' is an emotive banger with big synth energy and reverberating vocals while ADHS's '2STEP' hits hard with its flaming drums and trance-y synths. Kaiserdisco then brings dark, stomping warehouse energy to their raved-ready 'Get On The Dancefloor.'

These are high impact cuts of body-slamming techno with deep synths and sleek rhythms. 'Always Silver, Never Gold' kicks off with a warped and elastic underwater rhythm packed with atmosphere while 'Bees Crave' ups the ante with heady and rusty loops. Review: Since launching last year, Bristol label Albeit has impressed with two 12" singles: one that raided the archives of hardware abusers Activ-Analog and another from up-and-coming producer Ish. The imprint's third release is another archival affair that offers up three tracks from Marco Repetto's Bigeneric project that were reportedly recorded way back in 1998. First up is "Intex", a fuzzy and distorted slab of leftfield techno futurism built around some suitably off-kilter beats and intergalactic synths. "Calder", a bolder and more percussive chunk of wayward techno hedomism seemingly named after a river in West Yorkshire, accompanies it on side A. Arguably best of all though is flipside "Yunul Dub", an eleven-and-a-half-minute exercise in spaced-out ambient dub/dub techno fusion that's impressively immersive.

Review: UK dub techno maestro Steve O'Sullivan is back with another payload of deep immersion heaters under his Bluetrain guise, this time on the Future Primitive label. There's a deadly restraint at work on "Congo Shuffle", where the elements get reduced to needlepoint precision and the low end rhythm section stalks with purpose. "Invisible Guest" takes things in an explicitly dubwise direction, channelling serious Rhythm & Sound vibes for an immaculate head-nodder, before "Paralyzed Dub" slows down further into an end of the line skank for the weary to find solace in - masterful movements in the echo chamber from start to finish.

Review: New York label and party Mister Saturday always brings roughed up, raw and steamy house grooves. This new one is no exception to that unwritten rule and it comes from Russell El Butler who serves up four platters that matter. 'Blah Blah' is a brilliantly brainless house romp with vocal loops and distorted kicks making you march. 'Kruymska' is more tight and taught thanks to the pinging kick drums and molten melodies up top, while 'Tout Va Bien' is a late night cut that glistens thanks to its prickly bass and razor sharp hats. 'Alone At Pisecka 12' closes out in malfunctioning fashion to round out a wide-ranging EP.

Review: Brother Nebula is the alias of veteran Calfornian producer Lance Desardi, who some may remember presented a great EP on Nick Hoppner's Touch From A Distance back in 2019. He returns to London's Legwork label with a selection of high-def sonic workouts on Brother Says Relax. On side A, there's the elevating acid house of the title track taking its cues from the timeless Trax Records era, followed by some handy beat and acapella versions. Over on the flip, the woozy and saucer-eyed 'The Burden Of Proof' is followed by the druggy, chugging tunnel vision of 'SIS' (feat Solar - Bro Nebs In dub).

Review: Casino Classix is one of several aliases for legendary minimal man Baby Ford. Here it is also the name of a four-track EP that finds the long time UK underground operative working alongside fellow British techno luminary Mark Broom on a quartet of devastating cuts. 'Ringer' opens up with some dark and nimble baselines darting about beneath a dense layer of percussion and FX. 'Hoppa' is then a more precise and minimalist cut with wonky bass snaking down low beneath the icy hi-hats and jumbled toms. There is a warm dub depth to 'Hot Pot' to kick off the flip and 'Beach Club' shuts down with a restless mix of synth daubs and deft percussion over an ice cold groove.

The boss himself offers up a Bluetrain special edition dub of Hidden Sequence's 'Synapse' which is all icy lines and liquid rhythms which make you think of some frozen lake on a misty morning. Sub Basics (Temple of Sound, Lion Charge Records) opens up with a fresh dub laden track with rippling chords, tons of echo and rolling drums on 'Quarters.' Both are timeless dub outings, as you would expect from this label.

He's dropped on Toolroom, Of Unsound Mind, Moon Harbour, Relief and Repopulate Mars amongst many others, and now he's hit the big one, Drumcode. Brown's more than ready for Adam Beyer's label, bringing the high-pressure goods on the likes of 'Deep Down' and 'Nazareth', using that essential low-end boom and plenty of nervy acid up top, keeping the drums piling on hard and teasing the drama in his gargantuan productions. Review: The Spanish Hypnotic Collective label attempts to capture its take on the Detroit Legacy with what looks like a new series of various artists' EP. There is plenty of Motor City soul in the gorgeous synths of Cignol's muted acid and deep house opener 'Distance' which is a soothing and reverential groove, but then its pure party from Barce, Alex Martin offers up 313 style tech and three further tunes on the flip explore blistering electro with high-speed funk and cosmic intent. Mission accomplished and we're already looking forward to the next one.

Review: Byron The Aquarius (Byron Blaylock), from Birmingham, Alabama, debuts his latest EP for French Synchrophone sublabel Phonogramme, 'Dey Know Vol. 1'. Topping up an already hugely impressive backlog of releases on the label recently - from the likes of Abacus, Steeve O'Sullivan and Vitess - the producer and water carrier adds to their catalogue for a varied scrubdown of the more militant ends of techno's sonic politic. An impressove sense of variation is achieved on the expositionally minimal 'Black Is Black', which contrasts greatly to the ensuing space-quagmires of 'Dr Devil' and then the crude, bleepy and frank analog sonics of 'Real MF From The Avenue'. Dreamy narrations of local life abound, precluding the closing 'Rock That 808!!!', a track that is far more sophisticated and well-developed in sound than its wilfully blase title might suggest.

Review: Blue Hour is very close to a quarter of a century of releases but just ahead of that notable milestone the label daunter and eponymous techno project step up with two bangers on a nice limited 12". 'Dimensions' is a brilliantly unbalanced techno workout with distant church bells bringing some unusual chaos to the high-speed drums and prickly percussion. It's a great one that will cut any floor loose. 'Sun Dogz' on the flip gets even quicker and fires lasers out like bullets. High octane stuff that is pure fire for the club.

Review: Eclectic technoizer Basic Bastard locks arms with Detroiter Orlando Voorn, their dual sonic output being the new 'Drama' EP. The three-tracker is nothing short of a sonic adventure, spanning acid, to dub, to uncategorisable entrainments. Bastard's original 'Drama' nails the art of the acid loop, a tricky tactic that is much less masterable than one might think. Voorn remixes the track my miring its elements in a cruddy ambience, while also greedily occupying the entire B-side with the urban-hellish jazz-noise-house cut 'Survival'.

Review: What can be said about this timeless banger that hasn't been said before? From the iconic throbs of acid to the delirious string hook, the menacing intonation of "ecstasy" to the eerie plastic strings, this is as seminal as a rave track can get. While many out there will no doubt have this jam tucked away on any number of techno compilations or cramped up on one of the original single issues, "Energy Flash" is a track more than worthy of its own luxuriant single-sided release, and in doing such a release so many years on R&S are making a powerful statement.

Review: Boris Barksdale's Eternal Remorse originally saw the light of day on Portugese label Eye For An Eye as a digital release back in 2018, and now it's getting a vinyl pressing. A physical release feels appropriate for this pointedly dusty release, which leans in on synthwave influences to create a thoroughly dark and gnarly atmosphere. '5.0.5' steps out on a tough, dishevelled rhythm section, with seriously degraded synths falling apart behind the jackhammer drums. '7.0.8' takes the intensity up a notch, hitting with an industrial bite, while 'Sentier' channels even more of that Ministry-flavoured malaise with its disturbing yelps and screams. 'Sramota' has the hallmarks of a mid 80s bedroom beatdown from a blackened soul, 'Take Notes' delivers yet more pounding, percussive punishment, and 'Geezer' rounds things off with a bleak and troubled slab of EBM dragged from the underworld to stalk amongst all nightcrawlers and ne'er-do-wells.

Review: Batu has long been in a class of one when it comes to crafting meticulously hi finely rhythms and sounds. He now steps out to launch his own new label A Long Strange Dream, with a five track EP that runs the stylistic gamut from ambient to raw and futurist techno. Churning bass and hefty hits one up 'Traverse' which rides on a menacing bassline and is action packed from front to back. 'In Tongues' is a thumping technoid banger and 'For Spirits' is a wild rhythmic work out with disrupted low ends and groaning synths. The latest example comes in the form of 'Forget', his most recent contribution to Turkish pushers of the craft, Oath. BJARKI will also serve as a creative platform to launch a wealth of forthcoming audiovisual projects, so stay tuned. 'Legend' is Beyer's kick-off for 2023, following up the completion of his own home studio with an inspired production run. Review: Al Wootton rarely releases material from other artists on Trule, so when he does you can guarantee the music in question will be rather special. That's certainly the case with this surprise EP from rising star Porter Brook, a Sheffield-born member of the Groundwork family whose dark, atmospheric and claustrophobic take on techno - with more than a dash of UK bass influence - is as industrial as the city of his birth.
