  4. Pulse Pattern (6:53)
Review: Pushmaster Discs head-honcho, Mattia Trani, lands on Marco Faraone's Uncage imprint, which means that we are being supplied with quality techno tracks that have been created with the sole purpose of getting people to dance. "Collider" is a weighty, bass-heavy 4/4 number complete with a metallic swarm of sounds for maximum impact, and "Arachnide" follows with a much darker, moodier, more ethereal approach. The B-side contains a woozy, acid-leaning remix of "Collider" from fellow Italian, Donato Dozzy, who unsurprisingly reveals a beautifully crafted dancefloor gem, while "Pulse Pattern" tear the roof down with an endless loop of outer-space euphoria. A recommended EP, with that killer Dozzy reinterpretation.

  1. Dan Trevitt - "Mendacious Truths"
  2. Dan Trevitt - "The Vapid"
  3. Westov Temple - "Dr Sardon"
Review: The Great Circles collective are a steadily emergent collective who celebrate the tough and punishing in techno, with Dan Trevitt making his second appearance here on a split 12" with label boss Justin Gibbon in his Westov Temple guise. There are no punches being pulled on this release, even on beatless halfway house "The Vapid" which deals in nerve-shredding drones. Trevitt's opening slammer "Mendacious Truths" is the most floor-ready jacker, but the Westov Temple beast "Dr Sardon" will surely incur the most shocked reactions with its blistering salvo of rapid-fire percussion leaving no room to breathe.

  1. Lights Go Out (Lapien Reconstruction)
  2. #dub4 (Tape mix)
  3. Lights Go Out
Review: The prolific Finnish production powerhouse Trevor Deep Jr is back, this time landing on We Play The Music We Love with an urgent collection of machine-made techno delights for all times of the night. Lapien's remix of "Lights Go Out" is the perfect starting point for this EP, riding on thrumming acid bass and haunting pads with a rock solid beat thundering away in the middle. "#dub4 (Tape Mix)" meanwhile ploughs a much deeper furrow into, as you might well have guessed, dub techno, but that's just a foil for the powerful thrust of the original version of "Lights Go Out" which spreads itself across the whole B-side.

Cat: TRIP 2. Rel: 31 Jan 13
  1. Track 1
  2. Track 2
Review: Having found his way into the bags of Ben Sims, Norman Nodge and Rolando among others with his first release, Tripeo returns with a second 12" of heavily textured, hypnotic and puristic techno. An alter ego of Holland-based producer Darko Esser, Tripeo eschews the eclecticism of his other project Onionboy for "niches and purism". This is clearly evident on the A-side, where a functional kick drum combines with diamond-like hi-hats and a lone glassy synth to create a purist techno experience that borders on the psychedelic. The B-side is even more sparing but no less striking, with a broken techno rhythm that is interrupted by a trippy mosaic of morphing synths on a 90s tip.

  1. New Age Of Intelligence (Edward version) (12:31)
  2. Der Prophet (Edward version) (8:57)
Review: More moody and mysterious noir-house from Oliver Hafenbauer's always fascinating imprint Die Orakel. On this occasion, they've commissioned two tremendous remixes of underrated German legend Rolf Trostel by modern virtuoso Edward. Trostel was a synthesist inspired by Tangerine Dream, who was active in the early 1980s. On the A side, we have the entrancing bliss of "New Age Of Intelligence" awash in layers of hypnotic sequences and shimmering textures, while on the flip "Der Prophet" sees Edward rework this overlooked classic into another mone of his gorgeously majestic creations for the dancefloor.

  1. Blue Rawls
  2. Meet The Butcha
Review: Last seen excelling on The Corner, NYC techno man Phil Moffa adds Hypercolour to his prospering profile with Rogue Music, a 12" hook up with the irrepressible Seth Troxler. Whilst this may not be the most immediate of collaborative endeavours you could think of, there is still plenty to enjoy here with "Blue Rawls" a perfect balance of stripped back, bone shaking rhythm and a growing sense of textural foreboding. It's the sort of track you can lay down after a frantic bout of drums to really hypnotise the dancefloor. Complementing this, "Meet The Butcha" heads off into seven odd minutes of bugged out house territory and leaves us clamouring more from the pair.

  1. Mira Mar (Grindvik & Zahn remix) (6:25)
  2. Modify (Dustin Zahn remix) (6:03)
  3. Mira Mar (Par Grindvik remix) (9:03)
Review: Uh oh, Truncate is back onto your subwoofers with the second chapter of his recent remix series...the last outing still pounding its way across the Juno HQ! This time the American techno maverick chooses Par Grindvik and Dustin Zahn to mould "Mira Mar" into bleepy, hi-hat-heavy tool, while Zahn himself strips "Modify" of all its dignity and cuts it down to a beautifully simple kick-beat approach. Grindvik closes this chapter off with a deeper, more mentalist take on "Mira Mar", where the melodies are catapulted into oblivion thanks to intricate FX processing .

  1. Focus (no vox) (5:43)
  2. Modify V2 (5:20)
  3. Mira Mar V2 (5:45)
Review: The 15th release on techno titan Truncate's eponymous label contains three alternative versions of previously released gems. First up you'll find a vocal-free version of angular and metallic 2011 throb-job "Focus", where relentless cymbals and two-note loops ride a pounding kick-drum pattern. Next, he unloads a bubbling, acid-fired "V2" take on 2012 jack-track "Modify" - all layered percussion, razor-sharp electronics and wayward TB-303 lines - before dedicated all of side B to a tasty alternate riff on "Mira Mar". The original was one of his deepest and dreamiest techno tracks, so it's nice to see that he's retained the warm chords and tumbling melodies amongst the delay-laden beats and gentle acid lines.

  4. 30 (Sterac Electronics remix) (6:30)
Review: Three heavyweights are featured on the next installment of the Truncate remix series. Heiko Laux revisits the Truncate classic 'Dial' with his deep, stripped down rendition. Ray Kajioka remits his interpretation of 'Wave 1' with his deep, melodic touch. Lastly, Steve Rachmad aka Sterac delivers his touch to two remixes of the track '30' - one stripped version as Sterac alongside one electro version as Sterac Electronics. Techno tools for everyone.

  3. Psuedo V3 (4:40)
Review: Los Angeles techno titan Truncate (AKA experienced producer David Flores) continues to serve up heavyweight jams on his eponymous white-label series. A-side "Multiply" is a no-nonsense affair, with hissing and crashing cymbals, morse code style electronic beeps and crunchy drum machine handclaps rising above a thunderous peak-time techno groove. Over on side B, "Pseudo V2" sees Flores wrap European tech-house glitches and pulses around a hypnotic deep techno groove, while "Pseudo V3" offers a more psychdelic and mind-altering take on the same deep and bass-heavy groove, with twisted acid lines sprinting in and out of the mix at regular intervals.

  1. Inner Strength
  2. Terraform
  3. Waiting Game
Review: For Those That Knoe are back with another wedge of dusted down delights from Casey Tucker, a hidden treasure of the mid 90s that nearly got away. Fortunately his effervescent machine soul jams have found a new lease of life with these reissues, and this fourth installment comes from a freshly unearthed box of DATs that pushes Tucker's story even further. "Inner Strength" is a pumped up shot of dynamic techno in the classic sense of the word, mysterious but hopeful, tough but sensitive. "Terraform," which previously aired on a long-deleted 12" from the 90s, takes things skywards with an unabashedly positive tone to the dense layers of synths and box beats. "Waiting Game" rounds the EP out on a wistful, acid-drenched tip - let's hope there's more jams of this quality to come from the Tucker archives.

  3. Wake People (Sascha Funke remix) (7:10)
  4. Wake People (Prins Thomas Diskomiks) (7:01)
Review: Permanent Vacation continues to commission new remixes of Philip Lauer and Gerd Janson's retro-futurist Tuff City Kids project. Predictably, there's plenty to set the pulse racing on this third volume in the ongoing series. KiNK steals the show with an EP-opening remix of Joe Goddard collaboration "Tell Me" that sits somewhere between sweaty, breakbeat-driven rave revivalism and glassy-eyed piano house cheeriness. Over on side B, Sascha Funke delivers a hybrid deep house/nu-disco take on "Wake People" that's warm, melodious and ear-pleasing, while Prins Thomas delivers a more up-tempo and organic-sounding remake of the same track that's even dreamier and loved-up.
