  6. Furious Frank - "Bonza Lemonza!" (5:09)
Review: The Ozzie label Pelvis has been on a tight roll since they came into the picture a couple years back, and thanks to release by peeps like Luca Lozano, Body Corp and Mall Grab, they've managed to rack up a little hype along the way! They're back with the second edition of the DJ Tools, and there's some hot talent inside: Roza Terenzi's electro opener "Oxygen Stomp" is a certified flow-filler these days, DJ Haus' stomping house nugget "Rushing" has that Chicago badness right up there in its DNA, and Secret Circuit's "Freak Tool" carries a fine percussion loop alongside twisted cowbells and chopped-up vocals. On the flipside, TMO comes through with "Tanzbar Jam", a minimalistic drum machine tool with a raw edge, Phran's "Vibrothang" is a marvellous little jungle stomper, and Furious Frank's "Bonza Lemonza!" gives new meaning to what we usually call 'Fingers Acid' - what a beauty of an EP. Tip!!!

  3. Neuromancer (Krystal Klear remix) (8:50)
Review: Bursting onto the scene with some impressive releases on Hotflush and Permanent Vacation, Danielle Caldelas aka Terr presents a brand new thriller on Correspondant. The Neuromancer EP features yet more of her trademark dark romantic techno, with influences of EBM, synth-pop and house. From the sultry and euphoric title track that's packed full of soaring synths, rushy arpeggios and a distinct retro flair throughout, the falling acid of "Multiverse" with its unashamed Kraftwerk influence or the roaring and neon-lit remix by New York by way of Dublin's Krystal Klear on the flip.

KL 03 (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: KL 03. Rel: 14 May 18
  1. Renette
  2. Lifthia
  3. Coefficients
Review: Following some sterling bouts from Gunnar Haslam and Bill Westerby, Kavalanic Languages is back with a new grip of deviant dancefloor belters from Elio Terzi. Terzi doesn't appear to have any prior rap sheet, but on the strength of these mutant machine jams we'll be hearing more from them in the future. "Renette" is a bubbling acidic burner that will wriggle under your skin like an uneasy hallucination, while "Lifthia" heads right out into uptempo freak-out territory where only the bravest techno explorers dare to tread. "Coefficients" finishes the EP off with a sizzling cut full of rubbery bass and delightful 606 drums.

  3. Thieves Are Operating In This Area (4:54)
  4. Foaming At The Mouth (4:09)
  5. Lyubov (3:54)
Review: While it's easy to forget about their heritage, which dates back to the early 90s, Teste have been blasting techno since before many of you were born. Morphing and evolving perpetually, the trio consisting of Dave Foster, Himadri and Soren B have produced all sorts of techno infusions, whether through labels like Probe, or later Edit Select, landing them a spot on the recently found BITE imprint. They follow up on Phase Fatale and Silent Servant's opener, leading their own charge with the tenebrous aura of "The Box Man", part-techno and part-noise, with "The Long Term Care Facility" building on that with sense-shattering showers of sonic gloom. The flip side is yet more cavernous glory, first with the humming bass of "Thieves Are Operating In This Area", then onto some sinister glitch fuzz via "Foaming At The Mouth", and finally culminating in a gentle prog-rock lullaby through "Lyubov".

  2. Night Of The Invisible BodySNADchers (6:46)
  3. Thunder Over Tbilisi (6:37)
  4. Look At All Those Stars (6:08)
Review: Flight 770 is an EP about global moods and inspirations, made around a trip to Georgia, where Thee J Johanz played at a festival with his friends from Goa. The title track combines old school gfunk grooves with techno sounds and dreamy leads from the rare Korg 770, while the boutique Russian Mad 5 drumsynth is spanking your ass with vibrant claps. Night of the bodySNADchers started as a project for the Goan Gandu label by Snad and Iggy the Bastard. It's inspired by the trippy vibe of the endless (after)parties at Cirrus, near Chapora. Thunder Over Tbilisi expresses the pressure you feel in Georgia, specially after what recently happened to club life in Tbilisi. Coming back to Holland Thee J Johanz played at the Island of Terschelling and refound himself looking at the stars. Small dots in a seemingly infinite universe. But also massive electrifying diamonds.

  1. R U There? (6:56)
  2. K Clap West (5:18)
  3. More Cowbell! (5:33)
Review: Johanz Westerman is back! The Ballyhoo! boss presents another fine serving of oddball/Italo referencing techno jams that he's now quite renowned for. Opening track "R U There" calls to mind fellow local retroverts such as I-F or pretty much anything on Bunker, really. With its warbling analogue melody, rusty vintage drum patterns and cutesy/catchy melody: no one quite does it like the Dutch! On the flip "K Clap West" gives us a taste for the acid life on this stripped back groove that really works that little silver Roland box like a you know what. Finally "More Cowbell!" certainly leaves little to the imagination, but good gosh this is total dancefloor devastation that creates so much, amazingly, with so little: hands up!

  2. BD1982 - "In '95" (5:04)
  3. Eighth Ruin - "Whip" (3:44)
  4. Etch - "Predator" (7:16)
Review: Green Village is a label operating out of Jersey City that deals in all manner of sounds from rugged house to scuffed up techno, but with a distinct bent towards broken rhythms and plenty of bass. This various artists 12" plies a diverse trade, with all tracks bound together by their ruffness. Theft & TOYC bring some loud and lurid bass synths to their snaking slice of oddball club music "Atlantic", while BD1982 places focus on dense layers of choppy drums and needlepoint acid arpeggios. Eighth Ruin delivers a truly head turning beat with the appropriately named "Whip", and then Etch pays tribute to a classic movie with the excellent breakbeat science of "Predator".

Review: Continuing Bliq's quest to unearth the most spooky and otherworldly techno and deep house fodder out there, Thingamajicks step into the spotlight with a staggeringly confident first release that touches on a range of moods without even a hint of trepidation. "Priceless" is a slow, stark exercise in 4/4 melancholia focused on dramatic swells of chord rather than anything percussive. "Sub Rosa X" goes even further out into an immersive swarm of analogue electronics loping in a reluctant groove, the sounds swaying as though they are without an anchor, and then when you least expect it the title track takes a massive swerve towards lackadaisical guitar chords and breezy optimism.

Review: Mystery artist This Other Space first popped up on Tasteful Nudes earlier this year with malicious little house EP named Eye Of The Cosmic, and the enigmatic artist is back on the Argot sub-label with another blend of dreamy house music. "Eye Of The Cosmic" is all about the sci-fi low-end, a bass tone that would make the Chicago boys proud, while the flipside sees the stuttering drum rolls of "Pop Yard" mash up with an '80s kind of vibe, and the tribal wails of "Friend Unfriend", a house tune that contains something distinctly British about it. Check 'em!

Review: "The wait is over as we finally have a new release ready by one of the originators of Icelandic techno. It's been a while, but worth the wait - as he delivers a straight-shooter, destined to find place in the record bags of all serious djs for years to come.
The EP consists of four dub-influenced techno tracks - each one exploring the depths of sonic and emotional landscapes. Some might even say glacial and atmospheric, yet perfect for a late night spin at the clubs.
Thule Records is considered by many to be a pioneers in the field of dub-influenced techno music and was a starting point for many of Iceland's most renowned electronic musicians.

Cat: THL 024LTD. Rel: 11 Jun 18
  1. Insanity Dub
  2. Rusty Flashback
  3. Garden Of Corrosion
  4. Pepper Jones
Review: Building on the momentum of the strong reissue programme undertaken at Thule Records HQ, Thor returns to the fray with some new productions that add a new chapter to the story of Icelandic techno. This limited run of Decay appropriately comes on marbled grey vinyl. Of course, the unique atmosphere the label carved out in the 90s has been left intact - the dubby processing and icy melodies abound throughout, creating utterly immersive techno and house variations in the process. "Insanity Dub" has a live feel to its drum set which injects a curious disco energy into the mix, while "Rusty Flashback" takes things in a subtle tech house direction. "Garden Of Corrosion" stands apart with its slender sound palette, placing the emphasis on groove and swing, while "Pepper Jones" ramps the dub techno exploration up to 11. If you love the sound of Thule, you're going to love this.

  3. Chancer (Kowton remix)
Review: Having previously impressed with vivid blends of cosmic R&B, skewed space-pop, glistening post-ambient soundscapes and mangled, synth-laden grime, rising star Throwing Shade (AKA producer Nabihan Iqbal) demonstrates her dancefloor side with a killer 12" on Happy Skull. "Chancer" and "Blanx" both retain Iqbal's uniquely intergalactic aesthetic, whilst flitting between jacking, Chicago-influenced house rhythms and jazzy, off-kilter dancefloor grooves. Synths sparkle, while vocal snippets drift in and out of the mix. The 12" is completed by a riotous, predictably heavyweight remix from Kowton, whose guttural techno grooves are peppered with cut-up samples of Iqbal's distinctive, dreamy vocals.

  4. Woke (Justin Cudmore remix) (7:22)
Review: Turbo boss Tiga is up next for his esteemed imprint with new single "Woke". As you've come to expect from the man, this is yet another perfectly pop-inflected experiment in dance music, which employs a moody/electro influence and an all round neon-lit arrangement. Add to this his cheeky/risque vocal style and noir attitude. It also receives a bunch of killer remixes too. Portland based newcomer Vakkuum (who appeared for diffusion imprint Twin Turbo earlier in the year) delivers a dry and guttural lo-fi techno rendition, Spanish legend Eduardo de la Calle serves up a typically tripped out and tunnelling rendition plus New York City acid freak Justin Cudmore installs a much welcomed retrofit for the track. This is the Montreal legend's third release so far in 2017 and was recorded at Lost Star Studios before he returned to Ibiza for the summer. All killer, no filler!
