  1. Dangerman (8:13)
  2. Lifted Spirits (6:21)
  3. Apache (8:04)
Review: Enzo Siragusa is no stranger to collaboration, having previously released studio hook-ups with the likes of Alexkid, Subb-An, Nima Gorji, Archie Hamilton and Seb Zito. Here German veteran Martin Buttrich joins the London-based FUSE regular for a tasty three-track hoedown. They hit the ground running on A-side "Dangerman", a formidably funk-fuelled chunk of bouncy tech-house rich in trippy minimalist vocal samples and undulating TB-303 bass. Flip the record and you're greeted with "Lifted Spirits", where meandering choral style vocals and razor-sharp acid lines dance across a foreboding groove, before Siragusa and Buttrich round off proceedings with the heavy, feverish Afro-house/tech-house fusion of fine EP closer "Apache". Get on it (the record, we mean).

Cat: SO 01. Rel: 25 Sep 17
  1. Skatebard - "Early Morning" (Sommeroya edit)
  2. Fredrik Bekkaasen - "Shroud"
  3. Bjorn Svin - "Clay Penalty"
  4. Christian Tilt - "It's Too Much Light In Here"
Review: Norwegian label Sommeroya enters the fray with a strong cast of Scandinavian sound scientists spread across a lucky dip range coloured vinyl. Skatebard leads the charge with the emotive electro tones of "Early Morning", all warm and fuzzy synth lines wobbling across the frequency range, while Fredrik Bekkassen brings a more militant brand of techno to the table with "Shroud". Bjorn Svin's "Clay Penalty" is equally tough and mechanical, although splashing through a generous helping of effects processing too. Then Christian Tilt finishes the EP off with a dubby dancefloor excursion entitled "It's Too Much Light In Here".

Junt (hand-stamped 12")
Cat: ITX 05. Rel: 20 Apr 16
  1. Junt (4:56)
  2. Hover (6:21)
  3. Larus Canus (5:38)
  4. Start Up Trak (edit) (6:58)
Review: A lot more eyes are on the brothers Zenker and their Ilian Tape label in the aftermath of Immersion that fine exercise in the art of the techno album but it doesn't seem to be fazing Dario and Marko. If anything they are remaining resolute to the approach, and the artists, that have served them so well as the label as risen these past few years. Junt sees the welcome return of Skee Mask, who delivered a real highlight of Ilian Tape's 2014 schedule in Serum, and the four tracks suggest the unheralded producer is quite the talent. The mood veers from tense dystopian electro on the title track to rolling abstract soundscapes ("Hover") to deft wall shakers ("Larus Canus"). Final track "Start Up Trak (edit)" is quite beautiful!

  1. Bells Of The Revolution (6:56)
  2. Ocean Drive (6:11)
  3. Retrodade (7:01)
  4. Vocalized (6:41)
Review: Dutch techno legend Bart Skils is still going! First breaking into the scene nearly a decade ago with powerful main room exploits on local imprint 100% Pure (which were championed by all the big DJs of the time like Richie Hawtin and Paul Ritch) and he's still relevant today - if this release on top techno label Drumcode is anything to go by. He's been a staple of Adam Beyer's imprint since 2013, where he's presented nearly a dozen EPs in that time. On Bells Of The Revolution, the title track uses Millsian FM melodies in sublime and hypnotic fashion, over powerful and cavernous rhythm patterns to rock any warehouse trave. He gets even more steely and austere on the heads-down power tool "Ocean Drive" which finishes up the A side. On the flip, "Retrograde" goes for a more hypnotic and ethereal vibe, plus that vocal from a certain mainstream dance hit of the early '90s is a nice touch indeed. Finally, things take a more optimistic and uplifting route on the funky, acid led antics of "Vocalized".

  1. In The Meadow Under The Stars
  2. Ikaros
  3. Six Hours
Review: Frozen Border sub-label Horizontal Ground returns with this haunting EP from Birmingham-via-Texas producer DJ Skirt. "In The Meadow Under The Stars", which meanders across the entirety of the A Side, seems unsure as to whether it is delicate or strong; brittle or robust - droning atmospherics and ethereal vocal sweeps mark give the track a menacing sheen. There are no such contradictory messages "Ikaros", which sees a granite hard kick looped deep beneath a hanging synth line, while "Six Hours" could easily be the soundtrack to the scariest Japanese horror flick you've never seen. A stunning reminder of how emotive, moving and frankly terrifying techno can be.

Static (12")
Cat: SKUDGE 011. Rel: 14 Feb 18
  1. Static (7:47)
  2. Memories (7:56)
Review: More raw and purist techno strains from the Skudge camp, following up 2017's powerful Circles/Tundra EP. This latest effort sees Elias Landberg show more restraint than heard on previous releases - turns out that he dug through archived material from his formative years - specifically 2009 and 2010. From the deep A side track "Static" which powers away with its driving bass, hypnotic loops and rusty/delay saturated rhythms. On the flip is the dubby "Memories" which calls to mind the work of legendary UK producer Gez Varley on this steely and stripped back DJ tool, relying mainly on its sublime and tunnelling chords. While working hard to pursue a specific set of labels, sound and aesthetic - their eleventh release presents a retrospective of a unique sound.

Review: Quasi reminds us of the mid-90's US styled Techno from the likes of Synewave and even some Robert Hood tracks from that era, but optimized for the floors of today. On the B-side, Parallel goes into familiar Skudge territory, with a brooding and haunting atmosphere - twisted up with some of that well-known funk that Skudge has been pushing for a decade now.

  4. White Monk (6:31)
Review: Young Brighton producer Slacker (no not the legendary progressive house act of the same name) aka Sam Black is up next on Lobster Theremin following up great releases by Asok, nthng and Unfinished Portraits. He's channelling the jungle vibes of yesteryear (think Peshay) on the classic euphoria of "Amen To The Lonely" while acid house/Summer of Love aesthetics are channeled convincingly on "See Yourself" and capturing that classic Lobster Theremin tape saturated vibe. On the flip, it's all about the deep 303 therapy of "White Monk" where he works that little silver Roland box to the max, powered away by dusty 808 drum patterns beneath.

  8. Petter B - "Isgrus" (6:39)
Review: Ukrainian techno stable Raw Raw has pushed the boat out on this 12th release, in the process delivering a double-pack full of tried-and-tested dancefloor movements. Amongst the eight tracks you'll find numerous highlights, including the distorted drums and Drexciyan melodies of Sleeparvhive's "Hide", the kick-drum driven alien funk intensity of Eric Fletcher's "Transcendent Wisdom", and the energy-packed hypnotism of Joton's "Diagram", which comes on like Brown Album-era Orbital dragged kicking and screaming through Berghain at eight in the morning. Best of all, though, is the TB-303 driven techno psychedelia of Petter B's "Isgrus", which is almost capable of triggering vivid dancefloor hallucinations.

  1. Group V (7:51)
  2. Despot (6:00)
Review: Hot on the heels of his inaugural release in January, Braiden introduces Slewis, a new producer on his emerging Off Out label. After years of honing his craft in the studio and playing in experimental bands, London born Slewis makes his mark on his debut with two equally bold dancefloor cuts. Group V opens with an extended twisting cacophony of synthesizers before breaking down into metallic driving machine funk. On the flip, Despot delves deeper down the rabbit hole as EBM influenced sounds and syncopated claps dance around a bed of paranoia, leading to a tense breakdown populated by a flurry of spasmodic drums.

  1. Reigi (6:23)
  2. Haipa (6:11)
Review: More captivating oddities from Paris' ever surprising Antinote camp, following up Sign Libra and D.K's shimmering new-age soundscapes. We have the Reims based producer Slowglide following up a first release on his own imprint Vapeur, but this is his first EP on vinyl. As even the label themselves have suggested, these evocative tracks bear the hallmarks of classic Sheffield bleep techno and IDM from the early '90's - as heard on the dynamic A side cut "Reigi". On the flip, there's more moody and experimental flavour on "Haipa" with its dense broken beats facing off with analogue blips and blurps, calling to mind the seminal work of early Autechre.

  1. Affaire De Familie (7:25)

  3. Le Grand Saut (6:17)
Review: Chicago's Hakim Murphy teams up with Lyon's Vince Noog as Slowmotion for the latest episode of the excellent Machining Dreams series - Murphy's own personal outlet. Lead track "Affaire De Familie" wonks and bleeps its way across metallic percussion shots and grizzly low-ends, while "Evasion Urbaine" is more melodic and heavy on the sci-fi pads. Finale "Le Grand Saut" ties things off with a squelchy feel, taking the duo's industrial beats into deep space. Fine hardware jams for the early hours as per usual from Machining Dreams.

  1. Remember In Reverse (8:51)
  2. Remember In Reverse (DJ Hyperactive remix) (11:06)
Review: After a near two-year hiatus, the Simian Mobile Disco boys returned earlier this year with the tech-house flavoured hum of "Staring At All This Handle". This follow-up sees them moving further towards European techno territory, with wistful, one-note loops and drowsy chords drifting across a bubbling, acid-flecked rhythm track. It's rather atmospheric and oh-so bittersweet, but boasts enough weight to please late night dancefloors. Flip to the B-side to hear DJ Hyperactive's extended interpretation, which cannily emphasizes the acid elements, pushes an offbeat techno rhythm to the fore, and generally feels like an early morning delight.
