  1. Feel The Same (DJ Koze edit) (6:54)
  2. Reverse (DJ Koze edit) (6:39)
Review: Rekids' special Record Store Day 2018 release features two extraordinary re-edits: of recent Radio Slave tracks by Pampa boss DJ Koze. Taken from his Feel The Same album, Matt Edwards has certainly received a brilliant rendition from the Hamburg legend right here. The euphoric remix of the title track still features the looped-up diva vocals of the original and is exactly the kind of track you'd expect him to drop on a Sunday night one of his his regular appearances at Panorama Bar. On the flip, the hard hitting and tunneling "Reverse" is more on the techno tip and originally appeared as the B-side to 2017's Overdue EP. Both edits are secret weapons for any serious DJ's set.

Cat: REKIDS 122. Rel: 04 Jul 18
  1. Trans (Dixon Retouch) (7:24)
  2. Trans (Underground Resistance Hamtramck remix) (8:14)
Review: In its original form, "Trans" was one of the dancefloor highlights of Matt Edwards' second album as Radio Slave, 2017's Feel The Same. Here, the dark and stylish original - think alien new wave synth-pop from 1983 re-imagined as a Panoramabar-friendly workout - is given a makeover by two titans of the electronic music scene: Innervisions overlord Dixon and Detroit techno stalwarts Underground Resistance. Naturally, Dixon's rub is weightier and more obviously big room-friendly than Edwards album cut, with the foreboding original synth bassline and bubbly electronic flourishes being joined by weightier drum hits and bold new melodic motifs which fire "Trans" towards the stratosphere. In contrast, Underground Resistance's revision is fuzzier, wonkier and more hypnotic, albeit with a little disco surprise here and there.

Cat: VRV 006. Rel: 04 Apr 16
  1. Coruscate (6:22)
  2. Inner Sense (6:05)
  3. Primeval (6:19)
Review: The Vargas brothers are back; look out! When not turning Los Angeles upside down with their notorious warehouse parties, Vidal and Vangelis run the esteemed Droid Behaviour imprint with Drumcell but strike out on their own with the Inner Sense EP on their own imprint VRV. "Coruscate" is stomping and dusty warehouse techno with doomy chords that fans of the Fachwerk sound will surely dig, while the title track is the kind of steely and cyclical techno with functionality that will be a worthy addition to any serious DJs crate. Finally "Primeval" gets more moody and reduced but really retains its fury in its restraint, chugging away like a steamtrain through the darklands; this one's the winner by far.

Pene D'amore Part 1 (180 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: CDA 019. Rel: 02 Oct 17
  1. Surdinia
  2. Meccanica
Review: Having previously popped up on ESP Institute, Juan Ramos teams up with Trent to form Greenvision, making their first appearance on the home of freshly squeezed discoid deviance, Cocktail D'Amore. "Surdinia" takes over the A side with a bombastic array of peak time devices in its utility belt, from bubbling acid tweaks to gluttonous monosynth leads and a chunky set of drums. "Meccanica" is no slouch either, laying down thick slabs of synthesized grease in pursuit of a different kind of party track. This is unusual, distinctive club music for those who want the crowd to stop and pay attention.

The Return (red vinyl 12")
Cat: SHIP 032. Rel: 17 Dec 15
  1. Random XS & Binaural - "Errant" (11:51)
  2. Random XS & Lost Trax - "Truant" (9:55)
Review: Here's something of a surprise treat for techno fans: a first 12" in 20 years from legendary Dutch acid techno combo Random XS. The two tracks featured were originally recorded, but never released, in the '90s, and have been brought back to life by Random XS in collaboration with other producers. "Errant", which was co-produced by fellow Djax-Up Beats graduate Binaural, is a spacey affair, with undulating acid lines working in tandem with woozy chords, bubbling electronic melodies and clattering analogue percussion. Lost Trax lends a hand on flipside cut "Truant", which explores deeper techno territory via relentless rhythms, percussive builds, darkly ambient chords and deep space electronics.

  1. Van Pelt (4:53)
  2. Shadow Harp (6:15)
  3. Dissolve (5:43)
  4. Slicing (5:51)
Review: UK tech-bass specialist Randomer has undoubtedly become one of the most prolific names across this country's dance scene. The talented DJ and producer has promoted his style since those first Hemlock killers began to surface, and he has kept on pushing that sound into new platforms, such as Holland's mighty Dekmantel. This new EP opens with the percussive bang and thrash of "Van Pelt", before launching into an all-out techno attack via "Shadow Harp". On the B-side, "Dissolve" blasts out yet more organized chaos, this time in the form of off-kilter drum sequences that verge on the tribal, leaving the title track to spin the drums into a total frenzy - backed by a radiant industrial bass that bounces from wall to wall. Highly recommended!

  1. If We Never Try (DJ Normal 4 Sealife Safari mixX)
  2. Hand In Hand (Pariah remix)
  3. If We Never Try (SW Amnesia interpretation)
Review: Kalahari Oyster Cult have been thumbing through their back catalogue and return to a past gem for some renewed attention. 2017 saw the release of Erell Ranson's Hand in Hand, a quintet of beautifully crafted machine music. Two tracks have been chosen from the EP and remixed with stunning results.

First up is Dj Normal 4's "Sealife Safari MixX" of "If We Never Try." The sweet, shimmering melody of the original, the bubbling bass and subtle notes, are transformed in this remake. Silvery chords morph into bold and daring new forms under the tutelage of Tim Schumacher, neon streaked patterns coalescing with broken and cracked percussion for a superbly uplifting piece.

Pariah follows with his rework of "Hand in Hand." A deep dreamscape intricately woven with heady notes, birdsong and endless possibilities.

The final odyssey comes care of SW (Stefan Wust) of SUED fame. The Berlin based musician delivers his reimagined idea of "If We Never Try" with Ranson's version being washed over by lapping lines and gentle currents to create a smooth rounded finale. A trio of unique perspectives from three true talents of electronic music.

  3. Laccy - "Spectrum Of Vibrations"
  4. Laccy - "Coincidence Of Opposites"
Review: The fourth installment on Spinning Plates comes from Andy Rantzen and Laccy, featuring a wealth of off-beat techno adventures for wayward souls. Rantzen is an Australian producer with a history remixing the likes of Severed Heads and working alongside Paul Mac as Itch-E & Scratch-E. His lead track "Digital Elf" is a stripped a raw beats n' bleeps workout, while "The Dial" finds Mac chipping in as they rework the track into a deadly old-skool burner for lovers of bleep techno. Laccy has only had one prior outing to date, but sounds in strong form on the sleek and crafty "Spectrum Of Vibrations" and delightfully freaky "Coincidence Of Opposites".

  3. NC 17 - "Gasoline Or Dettol" (6:46)
  4. Mezigue & Christopher Rau - "Honk For Peace" (3:08)
Review: In support of the joys of teamwork, Smallville regular Christopher Rau has launched Totally Together, a new label committed to releasing collaborations between producers. He handles the first 12" himself, joining forces with a succession of artists across four fine tracks. The A-side boasts two hook-ups with Chicago's Hakim Murphy; the sweaty, jackin' drum machine beats and wayward electronics of "Floorz Hop", and the bass-heavy deep house wooziness of "Again Agin" [sic]. On the flip, Rau joins forces with Nathan Jonson as NC 17, delivering the ghetto-house influenced Chi-town bump of "Gasoline or Dettol" (think winding synth horns, crunchy drum machine handclaps and throbbing sub-bass), before laying down the ultra-deep, ultra-melodious "Carrier" alongside Mezigue.

  1. Luv 4 All

  3. Egyptian Cat
Review: Out of nowhere Robert Crash's Dog In The Night label has swiftly took up it's position at the forefront of frazzled club cuts, calling on some lesser known or indeed unknown artists thus far for a series of 12"s that have caught the ear of selectors such as Ben UFO and Will Bankhead. There is little clue as to the identity of RB, but their triplet of productions here fit right in on Dog In The Night and the humour the label has shown throughout their prior output. the brutal acid slabs making up "Luv 4 All" is anything other than what the track title suggests, while "Song 4 Whale" is nothing like the kind of new age whale song you might expect, combining bloated vocal echoes with lo-fi beats. Both these barely prepare you for the turbulent onslaught of razor sharp drums and atonal bleeps that is release highlight "Egyptian Cat" however.

  5. Arise & Shine (6:09)
Review: Back once again on Hungary's singular Tape Hiss imprint, RDMA cuts a mysterious figure as per usual and, of course, bashes out some puristic techno waves like few others at the moment. Driven by a rugged and wholesome techno sound that owes much to the Detroit school of thought, tunes like "Passion Dance" and "To A Wild Rose, which dominate the EP's A-side, bounce and pounce with a forward mentality; the sound is dubby and dark, the only mission being to get people up and nodding their heads the blistering 4/4 showers. There's three more bangers on the flip, from the watery and disparate paths of "Blue In Green", to the minimal flex of "Arboretum", and the mechanical movements of "Arise & Shine". If you like you're techno raw and unfiltered, then you've hit the jackpot.

  4. In The Blood (6:39)
Review: Often overlooked or under-cited, NYC's Reade Truth is as much a part of the vintage house and techno scene as other, more referenced, artists like Pal Joey or Adam X. In fact, even before his first EPs began to appear in the early 90s, this guy was blasting out tunes in raves all throughout the late 80s, and he clearly knows rave culture like few others. Through labels like Sonic Groove he was able to build a name for himself, and in more recent years he's appeared for others like NSYDE - a Juno favourite! He's now up on San Fran's Warm Fiction, following up on Lerosa's fine opener from last year, and "LSD" opens the festivities with a psychedelic shower of percussion and warm, luscious bass. "Unrave The Fragments" is a more minimal-minded techno tool, while "Love Is..." goes all industrial and dubby, leaving "In The Blood" to glitch its way across the groove. Big up, Truth!

Review: More retroactive techno courtesy of the British Unknown To The Unknown camp, this time courtesy of French producer Realitycheck. He has appeared previously for the label with his Untitled Love EP, in addition to a great one on local imprint Renascence. Opening stormer "Escape Your Future" is drenched in analogue soul, just as you like it and channelling the same vibe as Hieroglyphic Being or John Heckle. The emotive "Replicants" is without a doubt the EP's most deep and introspective moment, but still retaining all those rusty classic drum sounds and dusty vintage synths. Finally, on the flip is the sci-fi odyssey that is the title track: classic electro sounds informed from a Motor City perspective and convincingly so. Respect!
