Review: The fourth 12" is a best of sees some of his mid 90s Dark Comedy material, like 'Track' and 'Chasers'. Both these tracks were initially released on his own Art Of Dance label as a 12" only, limited to 300. While Chasers saw a reissue an Art Of Dance compilation album, 'Track' was left exclusively to that 12" only (it had appeared earlier on his Warp album in a different version). If this is not enough to excite you, we also included another dancefloor bomb entitled 'Dark Disco', which was released more recently on a DEMF CD only and is now available on 12" for the first time. Another slice of essential techno history on 12" (and remastered by Dexter) for the first time. Artwork comes courtesy of Delta Inc.

  3. Kyle Aux Rennes (3:41)
  4. Sweet Vanilla (5:42)
Review: An air of mystique BFDM's 11th release both musically and conceptually as the shadowy Lastrack steps up with four staggering slices of innovative broken techno music. "Clairette To Die" is ghost of dub past coming back to make us pay for brostep - sinister, menacing and rich in textures, this blows minds on every occasion. "Zdry Connexion" tips a wry, subversive nod to raves gone past with its hypey stuttering edits while "Kyle Aux Rennes" takes everything you thought you knew about techno and turns it inside out in the grainiest, most unpredictable way. "Sweet Vanilla" plays the role of dessert - a sweet palette cleanser from the chewy gulliness of the previous three courses, it's an airy, loosely-hewn roller drenched in deep layers of atmospheres. Breath-taking.

  4. Redgreen I (Seuil remix) (7:31)
Review: Lateral Line are a Frankfurt based duo consisting of Lukas Bielke and Chris Geschwindner. They debuted their collaboration on Project London a few years back and their sophomore effort appears here courtesy of Parisian label Sounds Benefit. From the classic acid house era inspired jams of "Redgreen I" and Redgreen III" respectively which will appeal to retroverted sounds on Acido or SUED, they then show that there's more in their repertoire on "Redgreen II" a sleek take on quirked out and bleepy minimal house that's more familiar of Geschwinder's solo work. Eklo boss Seuil steps in for a nice remix of "Redgreen I" which is a tripped out affair that works the 303 elements of the original into something more way-out - perfect to lead into the afterhours.

Review: Fresh off the new album we welcome the arrival of a limited L.B Dub Corp single. Opening proceedings, 'See The Light' unveils a soulful and vocal driven side to the L.B.Dub Corp sound, whilst 'We Are going Home' switches up the aesthetic and movesinto duskier, percussion driven territories. Last up, Slater punctuates the EP with the intricate, snaking sonics of 'Calling The Spirit', harnessing slick, skipping hats and a hypnotic, ever-evolving lead line.

  1. Arnaud Le Texier - "Radar" (4:03)
  2. Staffan Linzatti - "Destination (Minutes)" (4:18)
Review: Brooklyn imprint Chronicle return with a high octane double header here courtesy of two stalwarts of the world techno circuit. First up, Frenchman in London Arnaud Le Texier (who you'd know of from his seminal mid noughties imprint multi.vitamins) appears first on the A side. He proves that he's always remaining on the genre's pulse as demonstrated on the tunnelling and hypnotic sci-fi groove of "Radar". On the flip, the bleeps continue with none other than Staffan Linzatti. The Swedish producer turns in another fine Jeff Mills tribute with "Destination (Minutes)" channelling the early vibes of the American legend's Axis/Purposemaker catalogue featuring adrenalised arpeggios, fierce 909 patterns and majestic pads.

  4. Unbalance - "Warehouse Tool 3" (5:46)
Review: UK based French underdog Arnaud Le Texier returns on his Children Of Tomorrow imprint with a collection of fierce and functional cuts for clandestine warehouse parties. On the Spilt 7 EP, the label head honcho himself takes care of proceedings on the A side: with the tunnelling, mentalist epic "Ooze" that's perfect to take the punters further down the spiral, while the greyscale and textural mood of "Le Gratteur" calls to mind the sinister industrial experiments of Shifted's Avian imprint. On the flip, the reins are handed over to Russian producer Unbalanced - who hasn't been on our radar for a while, but we're certainly curious to hear what he's been up to since his stellar releases on his eponymous and Rebalance imprints. Indeed "Warehouse Tool 2 & 3" respectively do exactly what they say on the tin. These two seething, steely and austere cuts are perfect for maintaining the adrenaline levels on the dancefloor.

Laika (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: SM 008. Rel: 01 Jun 15
  1. Laika (Original mix) (7:21)
  2. Laika (Dantiez Saunderson’s Deep Journeys remix) (7:37)
Review: Stephane Lefrancois & Jameson Gilvarry team up for the latest 12" from the Secret Music label and find inspiration from a canine icon of space travel. "Laika" is named in honour of the first cosmonaut dog, depicted here on the cover art and Lefrancois and Gilvarry convey her journey through an uplifting, rolling techno cut that doesn't seem to stop building. Complementing the original is a remix from Dantiez Saunderson who strips down the groove, while giving it a swung, offbeat feel. Staying true to the original, this version also introduces another layer of melodic synths, extending the journey, making it deeper and moody. The booming, clean low end and bouncy high end keep the groove propelling forward.

Review: The fourth installment in the Legwork Records saga sees label heads Lance DeSardi & Leopold come together under the artist moniker LEGWORK. For their first outing under the name they start with BUCK SHOT, a techno-soul chugger featuring a remix by the futurist himself, Matrixxman. On the flip, the boys go in for a straight-ahead killer with MEAN 2 ME and a more musical version of the same tune, KEY 2 ME.

  1. Aqua Viva (12:21)
  2. Aqua Viva (Edward Desert edit) (9:36)
Review: For those with a love of ambient and intelligent techno, Robert Leiner's 1994 debut album, Visions of the Past, has long been considered something of a must-have classic. Sadly, vinyl copies are hard to come by these days, so it's great to see the album's standout moment - dubbed-out intelligent techno epic "Aqua Viva" - getting the reissue treatment. The 12-minute original ebbs and flows wonderfully throughout, with waves of loved-up melodies, sweeping pads and whale noises (a big feature of ambient techno tracks during that period) lapping around a dub bassline and fizzing beats. On the flip you'll find a fresh edit from Edward that gives the track a slightly sparser feel whilst retaining the key melodic elements and bustling, dub-inspired bassline.

  4. I Feel Stereo (Frankyeffe remix) (7:15)
Review: Those who've been around a few years may remember Dino Lenny's "I Feel Stereo", a decidedly muscular and percussive 2001 club anthem that famously featured cut-up synthesizer and vocal samples from Chaka Khan's '80s smash "I Feel For You". Here, Yoshitoshi attempts to breathe new life into the track by backing Lenny's big room friendly original mix with a trio of new reworks. Red Axes provide the most revolutionary version; a quirky and eccentric, analogue-rich, new wave influenced chugger that utilizes only a small handful of elements from the original. Heavier peak-time revisions are provided on the flipside, first by Lawler (layered tribal drums and bowel-bothering bass) and then by Frankyeffe (melodic but jacking, ever-rising techno/house fusion).

Review: Drumcode dropped its first A-Sides compilation five years ago. The series has been such a success that they're already up to volume six. The first part of the vinyl edition (there are four in total) naturally features some notable contributions. We're particularly enjoying the full-throttle acid techno assault that is Amelie Lens' brain-melting "In Silence", though Dense & Pika's similarly intense, noise-laden slammer "Just a Beat" pushes it close. Elsewhere, Marco Faraone impresses with the slightly deeper and more intoxicating "Desert Crash" - think cascading late night synth melodies and bassbin-bothering bottom end - while Ambivalent's "Portmanteau" brilliantly wraps early psychedelic trance and ambient techno electronics around a bombastic rhythm track.

  1. Hieroglyph

  4. Land Of Warriors
Review: After debuting on Alan Fitzpatrick's We Are The Brave digital label, Leonardo wastes no time in launching his own label Etheric as a vessel for his own productions, and he serves up a potent brand of tech house built for maximum club damage. "Hieroglyph" has plenty of gaseous tones, but it's a rock solid party track at heart, while "8" matches airy synths with a tough beat in a truly uplifting combination. "Birdcage" shuffles on a stripped down, slightly swung groove and "Land Of Warriors" breaks things open with an adventurous trip into broken rhythms and dramatic musical motifs.

  1. The Offering

  3. The Afterlife
  4. Droplets
Review: Having kicked off his Etheric label with the Origins EP earlier this year, Leonardo is back with more adventurous machine music for the spiritually inclined dancefloor. "The Offering" has a dark and moody tone thanks to the snaking synth line wriggling its way through the track, perfect for eyes-down submission as the strobe blinks slowly. "Symmetry" is a more open affair, all soft top chimes and vapour blasts pinging around an easy electro beat, while "The Afterlife" strikes somewhere in the middle with a tougher, club-minded sound that still favours a sunnier sound palette. "Droplets" is the consummate B2, shrugging off the dancefloor rules of the previous tracks to trip out in a dubwise atmosphere that further strengthens the quality of what Leonardo is up to.

Review: Zurich outfit Les Points have previously impressed by developing a distinctively lo-fi, do-it-yourself style of tech-house. That style comes to the fore on this Eklo-released 12", with each of the five tracks bristling with the sounds of outboard hardware and spontaneous sound processing. They begin with the acid-flecked, electro/techno fusion of "ProjectErzame", before showcasing the crunchy drum machine handclaps, chiming melodies and bustling acid bass of "IDM778". Elsewhere, they successfully go deeper and woozier via the head-nodding hum of "Projektsektork", pay a whirlwind visit to the Motor City on the unpronounceable "Projektjezmueschlueggend" (think early Model 500 dragged through a hedge backwards), and reach for the stars on EP highlight "Hescdolby".

Review: Doing things properly and building up a DIY phenomenon from their base in Zurich, the Les Points crew have brought a fresh, daring originality to the house and techno scene with their gritty outboard approach and a wide range of stylistic tendencies. Taking a break from releasing on their own label, Audino, Barbir, Louh and Nicola Kazimir have been invited to the evergreen Trelik to broach their music to a wider audience. From the blissful space techno groove of "Anubis" to the tightly wound beats of "Housepacer" and on to the cranky acid funk of "Ripstyle", this is yet another distinctive transmission from the plucky Swiss crew.

  4. Take My Heart
Review: With the Juno research minions still none the wiser as to the true identity of Rezzett, Will Bankhead unveils another absolute mind killer from origin unknown in the shape of the Believe EP by Levantis. Don't look hopefully at that search engine son cos it won't help you here, instead bask in perhaps the best TTT transmission of the year. Opening track "Music Hall" feels less like a musical arrangement and more like a living breathing entity for the first few minutes then suddenly it finds a wonderfully rewarding house beat buried deep beneath the claustrophobic murk and that's it, you are hooked. It's positively cheery in comparison to "Pieces" which sounds like the sonic equivalent of being dragged to hell, whilst those seeking respite will find solace in "Take My Heart". Here mangled textures that feel like they're slowly enveloping themselves and some insistent rhythms built from recycled drums combine in a manner that has you slipping the needle back to that 1 mm gap midway through the vinyl to bask in it all once more.

Review: This superb, six-track assault on the senses gathers together some of the most sought-after cuts from the Balkan Vinyl and I Love Acid vaults, five of which have never before been seen on wax. There's naturally plenty to set the pulse racing throughout, from the wild, lo-fi acid stomp of LFO's "I Love Acid" and the late Andreas Gehm's "Heaven & Hell", to the breakbeat-drive rave madness of Luke Vibert's "Acid Hitler" and the gentle braindance shuffle of Plaid's "Hui". Arguably best of all, though, is B12's "Proximity", which sounds like an electro re-make of LFO's "LFO" with added clandestine creepiness.

  4. Helena Hauff - "Sloe"
Review: Helena Hauff's mighty Return To Disorder is back with a various artists 12" packing phasers set to slay. LFT is as evil as it gets on "Flare," dropping the kind of sleazy, Bunker-ready, acid inflected electro that darkroom dreams are made of. Marc Ash has an edgier tone, maximising the distortion but also capitalising on uneasy space in the mix on grimy workout "Beirut Calling." Morah sends things in an airy direction on "Cold Water," building up layers of noise but maintaing a strange air of optimism. Hauff herself lands the B2 slot with a curious belter that channels the spirit of 90s MIDI game soundtracks amidst searing arepggios and a bloated kick.
