  1. Carnal Knowledge
  2. Carnal Knowledge (instrumental)
  3. Carnal Knowledge (bonus beats)
Review: Huhta Home Studio has been set up by long-standing Swedish drummer and producer Jean-Louis Huhta, who is better known in this department as Dungeon Acid. With a strong run of singles and one LP already locked down in the past two years, in the dungeon 2015 kicks off with the sweaty pressure of Carnal Knowledge and it sounds exactly as it should. The title track keeps the heat on with an unrelenting red-lining synth loop while threads of acid bubble away underneath, leaving enough space for wraith like sex samples to drift around under heavy processing. On the flip there is an alternative "instrumental" take of the track, as well as some bonus beats which largely let those sleazy vocal moans and groans drift around on their own.

  1. Lost Myself
  2. SOS
Review: DVS1's Hush imprint has been so quiet since the US techno producer christened it with a 12" of his own tracks back in 2011 we thought it had shut up shop, much like his solo productions, which have taken a back seat to remixes in the same timeframe. Thankfully, Lost Myself sees the producer reinvigorate the label with two brand new productions, which show just how much his lean, minimal approach has been missed. "Lost Myself" is little more than a taut arpeggiated synth line, held together with the barest of rhythms and some impressive sound design, while "SOS" takes things into more heady territory, with a swirling mass of metallic tones and ambient textures surrounding his sharpened percussive tones.

  5. Coding (6:14)
  6. The Chase (7:08)
  7. It's All About (6:01)
  8. Nineteenninetysix (6:17)
Review: On this expansive release, Zak "DVS1" Khutoretsky is not messing around. Over the course of two 12" records and a 10", the Minneapolis-raised producer delivers no less than eight late night techno workouts. With such a plethora of fine cuts to choose from, picking highlights is tricky. We're particularly enjoying the chiming, early morning roller that is "Decreasing", the Hoover bass-propelled madness of "Watchtower" and the bounding, rave-influenced stomp of "Coding", though the acid-fired wildness of "Rise" is also impressive. Arguably best of all, though, is "It's All About", an atmospheric, stripped-back techno shuffler full of delay-laden vocal samples and repetitive, dubbed-out electronic riffs.

Zehn/Funf (12")
Cat: OSTGUTLP 2005. Rel: 22 Mar 16
  1. DVS1 - "(Ecks)" (6:10)
  2. Answer Code Request - "Zeitspielraum" (5:36)
  3. Doms & Deykers - "Whirling" (7:46)
Review: Ostgut Ton reach the midway, or Funf, point of their programme of 12" issues from last year's mammoth Zehn boxset which draws for the contributions from DVS1, Answer Code Request and the Dutch connection Doms & Deykers. DVS1 is up first with "Ecks", a blinding little DJ tool rife with skittering drums and trademark touches of psychedelia, whilst Answer Code Request's "Zeitspielraum" has a touch of the Underworld classic "Rez" to it. Plenty of broken drums too, naturally! Martyn and Steffi have the keys to the B-side and they use the space to lay down their own breakbeat house epic "Whirling" which bodes well for the mooted Doms & Deykers album that is supposed to be out this year.

  1. DVS1 - "Strobe"
  2. Kwartz - "Hate"
  3. Reeko - "Enlightenment Process"
  4. Adam X - "Meridien Arc"
Review: As part of Oscar Mulero's Unknown Landscapes mix CD his label Pole Group has done the right thing and released the first of several various artist samplers. This first body of music is opened by the rusty pings of DVS1's "Strobe", while up and coming Spanish techno producer, Kwartz, earns his Pole Group stripes with a deep and blipping "Hate". Long-time label cohort Reeko provides the elongated mind trip that is "Enlightenment Process", and the last spot is of course reserved for industrial demigod Adam X who doesn't falter with the voltage charged "Meridien Arc".

  2. Figure Of State (Doppelate remix) (6:56)
  3. Stokey Waltz (4:58)
  4. Stokey Waltz (Pepe remix) (4:50)
Review: Fresh from a fine vinyl debut on Let's Go Swimming, William Earl pops up on freshly minted label Cherub. There's much to admire here, too, not least the fluttering, sunrise-ready melodies, dreamy chords and rolling deep house grooves of opener "Figure of Skate". Doppelate doffs a cap to the Vancouver style of new age deepness on his fine remix of the same track, before Earl serves up a "Stokey Waltz". This hot-stepping concoction packs a punch thanks to its loose and sweaty drum machine programming and some trippy, effects-laden vocal samples. Pepe remixes, craftily combining the futurist sonics and farsighted ethos of Detroit with the drifting melodic warmth of vintage Italian dream house.

Review: Earthen Sea goes by the name of Jacob Long when he's out of the studio, and out in the real world. This is for good reason, too, as his alias is just about as dreamy and hazy as one can get without taking a heavy load of tranquillisers. He's back on Ital's Lover's Rock label - the man himself has featured on Workshop, just in case you didn't know - with eight pieces of foolproof electronic psychedelia. "Entrance" sets the seen with cinematic drones, and opens up the doors to a rugged and loose collection of pseudo house tracks. Not really for the dancefloor, but equally not tame enough to be listened to on headphones, Earthen Sea's mood is energetic yet melancholic. Ambient and abstraction is mixed up with steely percussion, and locked grooves. We love this stuff, it's for the dreamers...

  2. Mike Parker - "Night Of 21 Hours"
  3. Echologist - "Burn Permit"
  4. Stanislav Tolkachev - "The Right Side Of Hell"
Review: Though largely a platform for full artist releases, Mike Parker's Geophone label does dabble in the occasional various artist release and the last one (GPH19) really set the bar high with contributions from Voices From The Lake, Stanislav Tolkachev and that sensational Shifted remix of Parker. For this latest issue, Tolkachev is invited back to the label and he provides a chaotic "The Right Side Of Hell" which sounds like X-101 gone wrong (in a good way), while Eastern Renaissance's "42A 19' 53 N" is like hearing Warp's LFO mixed together with Prologue techno. Echologist, aka Brandon Moeller, provides a beat down and pulsating "Burn Permit" - and as you'd expect, Mike Parker throws down some deep and throbbing modulations on "Night Of 21 Hours".

Review: More faceless techno on offer, this time from the mysterious Echelon. That's it, once we've got some clues on who they are, we'll be sure to let you know! Starting out with the tunneling heads down techno hypnotism of the first track, followed by a more soulful/retro infused affair on the second track, which is full of immaculately programmed 'first wave Detroit' style rhythms and euphoric synth work. On the flip, we're back to the program on the slow burning trance induction of the last two tracks; the fourth in particular is the kind of strobe-lit and seething adrenaline you could imagine the mighty Boris hammering out at one of his infamous closing sets at Berlin's infamous Berghain.

Review: Having emerged with a distinctly pastoral brand of techno on labels such as M_Rec and Silent Season over the past few years, Edanticonf now makes his way over to Cinematic Recordings to explore further realms of emotionally rich, texturally developed techno not bound exclusively to the dancefloor. "Siren" swirls in a flurry of brightly defined synth lines, from amorphous pads to sweeping strings, with a dash of optimism thrown in to make for a thoroughly sweet confection. "Mermaid" has a more dramatic tone, even if the plush layering of sounds is still in full effect, while "Syrizo" takes on an almost Echocord quality with its strafing chords and immense heft of production.
