  1. Yearning (6:08)
  2. Continente (6:29)
  3. Continente (Eduardo De La Calle remix) (6:00)
  4. Roots Of Funk (6:56)
Review: For the sixth release on Final Chapter, Sean Dixon provides three tracks of warm and precise electronic sound complimented by a very deep and full remix from Analog Solutions label boss and director of the electronic music documentary "Beatz," Eduardo de la Calle.
Opening with Yearning and deep feel with Dixon?s trademark scattered percussion building layer by layer as the bass tones are modulated, he weaves then a complex emotion with pads and melodies. Continente takes things more towards Detroit based territory. Definite dance floor action with percussive whistles, as keys and pads seem to meld playfully throughout. Eduardo de la Calle?s take on the same track, drops things back towards the deep, with feeling of pressure and density punctuated with waves of sci-fi sound that give the feeling of being in some kind of great machine, floating in deep space. Roots of Funk provides a very danceable track using vocal samples within the music to put across a more serious idea, as synth piano?s gently echo into the distance and horns gently swell over the track.

Temporary Insanity EP (1-sided 12")
Cat: OUT 018. Rel: 08 Feb 16
  1. Temporary Insanity (4:36)
  2. Multiple Choice (5:53)
Review: Aside from all the wonderful house music than emanates from the Motor City these days - Omar S, Moodymann and Andres in mind - there aren't many more proper techno artists left in Detroit. That is, of course, apart from Terrence Dixon, who is always sure to provide the most mind-bending arrangements under his own name, and the present Population One moniker. His first EP of 2016 comes on the excellent Out Er label, and "Temporary Insanity" is instantly recognisable as his own, with an ocean twisted chords and sci-fi low tones. "Multiple Choice" is an eerie, alien-like monster of a tune, too, but here Dixon prefers to play with the swarm of melodies and bleeps at his disposal, contorting and transforming them without any fear. Amazing, as per usual.

  2. Temporary Insanity (Voiski remix) (5:07)
  3. Multiple Choice (Cosmin TRG remix) (6:34)
  4. Multiple Choice (Pangaea Phase dub) (4:56)
Review: It would be fair to say that Population One's "Temporary Insanity", and its' accompanying B-side, "Multiple Choice", received mixed reviews when the 12" dropped earlier this year. Undeterred, Out Er has decided to get the best out of both of these Terrence Dixon-produced tracks remixed. There are some notable versions, not least Voiski's punchy mix of "Temporary Insanity", which manages to retain some of Dixon's restless energy, whilst adding a few more melodic touches. Elsewhere, Cosmin TRG's version of "Multiple Choice" is a wonky, minimal-goes-acid affair, while Pangea's booming, bass-heavy interpretation of the same track is a shuffling, broken techno treat.

  3. Kimmi (5:35)
  4. Strobo-Acid (6:15)
Review: Mainz man (sorry) DJ Arg is undoubtedly one of Germany's foremost purveyors of full-throttle, mind-altering acid tracks - a kind of one-man, 21st century Hardfloor, minus the bombastic techno drums. Here he brings his titanium-plated take on jack-tracks to Super Rhythm Trax for the very first time. He fires a volley of warped TB-303 lines and clanking Phuture drums towards hipster DJs on opener "Trend Cnuts", before offering a deeper, wonkier and even more trippy assault on the senses via the drum machine handclap heavy hypnotism of "Pervers". Side B opens with the ghostly bounce of thrillingly loose mind-melter "Kimmi", while EP closer "Strobo-Acid" does exactly what it says on the tin.

  1. Cultural Variance (10:11)
  2. Faze 1 (7:29)
Review: Active since the late '90s, Eric Dulan has built up a discography that commands instant respect, with the majority of his output arriving via his own Subject Detroit label, and he also has a fearsome rep as one of Detroit's finest underground vinyl technicians. This two track 12" is the first Bone material on a platform other than Subject for some five years and both productions bang hard as you would expect! The title track weaves a hypnotic vocal sample in and around a full throttle techno thrust that could only have been brewed in Detroit whilst "Faze" is all about those pulsing laser like synths that emit mind bending intentions over a sturdy kick drum groove.

  2. The Funk (4:39)
  3. The Haunting (4:30)
Review: Reissue anthem alert!! Another Day drop DJ Bone's early material from Metroplex back onto vinyl with this tasty reincarnation of the 1999 juggernaut. When this badboy first came out, no one was doing percussion the same way as Bone, with tunes like "Shut The Lites Off" capable of destroying any dance floor with its sublime balance of harmonies and hard beats. "The Funk" offered new and curious shades of electro madness to the scene - a cocktail which still sounds fresh now - and "The Haunting" smashes out the funky techno for warehouse use.

Review: Nik Dawson adds to his growing profile with this killer induction on Barcelona label Anomia under his club focused DJ Bookworms moniker. Currently half of the sprawling hardware experimentalist project Confused House alongside Jason Letkiewicz, Dawson's two releases on LIES are amongst our favourites here at Juno HQ but the Mechanism 12" might just challenge that. Recorded live to tape in NYC with "a Roland 606, 808, and Alpha Juno 1? the three tracks here find Dawson in quite confrontational mood, most notably on the unhinged title track that always seems on the verge of complete malfunction. It's little surprise when the arrangement completely chews itself up towards the end.

Review: In anyone's book, DJ Guy's story is remarkable. The Welsh techno producer recorded material throughout the 1990s, but his vast archive of material went untouched until All Caps put out the 20 (1996) 12" last year. Now Anders Vendelbo and Christopher Kejlstrup's NORD imprint has picked up the baton, and here presents a doublepack of material recovered from the vaults. Given the vintage nature of the tracks, it's somewhat surprising how fresh they sound. While techno fanatics will no doubt spot nods to intelligent techno, ghetto funk, Drexyica, Autechre and the like, the potency of the material has not diminished by sitting in shoeboxes for 20 years.

  4. Mantra (Eduardo De La Calle remix) (6:47)
Review: Released back in 2017, DJ Hell's Zukunftsmusik has already seen a fair share of remixes, but this volume could feature some of the finest yet. They are all fairly heavy hitters, perfectly suited to dank warehouse spaces with minimal lighting and powerful sound systems. From opener by Berlin trio Fjaak providing one of the EP's standout moments, with a blistering rework of the title track, to the hypnotic tunnel vision of "Mantra" first remixed by Italian Marco Faraone (Uncage, Rekids, Drumcode) or the legend Eduardo De La Calle's deep space sonar transmission on the flip which was sublime. VRIL gets in on the action too, with a terrific perspective of "Guede" which gets his 13th Symphony Of Artifacts remix - taking the German producer's dub techno sound into even more twisted territory.

  1. 6AM (5:21)
  2. Marauder (7:00)
Review: The undisputed godfather of Australian techno Cam Bianchetti aka DJ HMC has enjoyed a deserved second coming under his Late Nite Tuff Guy guise but this is where it all started with these two classics. First track "6AM" originally released in 1996 is a true mid-nineties zeitgeist that could have been spawned during an evening at the Packard plant in Detroit, but actually conceived in Adelaide. It's overdriven acid backed by the pounding kick and metallic hiss of a 909 just like Plus 8 Records were doing back in the day. What can be said about 'Marauder' that hasn't already? It's resurgence as a Berghain anthem in the last few years is well deserved. This rendition being a much more serious and restrained version than the 2001 version. Get your hands on this timeless piece of history.

  1. No Fooling (7:16)
  2. Between The Lines (7:00)
  3. Lost (4:59)
Review: Chicago legend DJ Jes has been releasing steadily since 1995 on legendary imprints such as Siesta, Afterhours and NRK, through to Karlovak and even his own Fresca Recordings imprint that ran from 2000 - 2003. This release follows up 2014's Closer To Freedom EP on Tardis: a label run by Eli Verveine and Oscar Schubaq that pursues the dubbier end of minimal house. It starts off in fine fashion with the funky and slightly discofied loops of "No Fooling"on the A side. On the flip, the title track "Between The Lines" is tough deep house with delay drenched keys and gritty SP1200 style beats while the deep tribalist groove of "Lost" is trippy afterhours style business. More great work from an underrated hero of the Windy City underground on offer here.

  4. Train Ride To Berlin (6:43)
Review: The East Coast's house don DJ Jus-Ed is, as always, on an unstoppable run of form. His latest bundle of club-friendly tunes comes on his own Underground Quality, of course, and it's four tracks from the man himself - preaching the gospel like only he knows how! Starting with "Acid Fro", the mood is darker and more hypnotic than his usual approach - this is a proper belter in every sense of the word - while "Ice 597 To Frankfurt" is more minimal, wavey and utterly pouncing. Flip the record and you got the melancholic melodica of "Katzback Gruv", another stomping club affair for the earlier set times, and "Train Ride To Berlin", a jittery, percussion-driven bit of neo-tribalism. Hot, as always. Don't miss this!

Review: Ed's back: Jus Ed that is! The Underground Quality boss and Connecticut's finest serves up some deep and emotive house done good and proper on his new opus Jus Nomaly 2. It's a collection of all things soulful. lo-fi and above all: deep! Starting off with the tough dark house of "Benny's Dump Run" which would definitely make his buddy DJ Qu proud, it gets more ethereal and spiritual on the entrancing "Adams Street 78", but things take a turn for the acid techno variety on the gutsy and intense soul searcher "The Phone Call". "Step In The Right Direction" gives its nod to the blueprint sounds of Detroit on this sublime serving of hi-tech soul circa 1988. Following up some great releases by Howie B, Terry Tester and B from E, the label head honcho himself shows us how its done on this great full length exploring a variety of moods and grooves.

  1. DJ Koze - "Driven" (6:37)
  2. Robag Wruhme - "X-mop 198" (5:02)
Review: Pampa offshoot Hart & Tief launched earlier in the year, via a split 12" featuring tracks by Soulphiction and Mike Denhert. This time round, fellow German producers DJ Koze and Robag Wruhme are at the controls. Koze kicks things off with "Driven", a clanking, booty-shaking fusion of metallic percussion hits, resonating electronics, dub techno motifs, and minimalist textures. It feels a little like a contemporary Berlin take on early '90s Sheffield "clonk" (think Sweet Exorcist's Clonk's Coming album on Warp), which is no bad thing in our book. Wruhme's "X-mop 198" is a much more straightforward, early morning techno bubbler, albeit with similarly clanking percussion hits amongst the thumping kick drums and restless, one-note riffs.

Review: It's early days for DJ Loser, having just been snapped up for a split cassette release with Raw Ambassador in the recent past. Luckily, getting a spot on London's well-established Bliq label is a fine place to start, and the debutant producer turns out some confidently grubby house wares for their first spot on vinyl. "Your Eyes Were Telling Me That You Really Cared" is a woozy, infectious club track full of scuffed drum machines and low-rent synth flares, while "Untitled" has a much more abrasive palette on offer. "I've Got Dis (But I Can't Do It)" hits a similar vein of atmospheric jackery before Bliq regular Seixlack turns out a more densely packed remix.
