Snare drum module made from the TR808's circuit adapted for Eurorack use - 4HP wide
Notes: Introducing the SD808, part of our new series of drum modules that brings analog percussion to the modular synth world, instantly turning your system into a self-contained music machine.

The SD808 is the TR-808's analog snare drum circuit adapted for use in Eurorack modular synthesizer format and was designed to sound like a fresh-out-of-the-box, 1980s TR-808 snare. Adapting the circuit to the modular format has allowed us to add special features like independent accent levels, a high-powered gain stage, a dual-input pulse-shaper, and an adjustable noise source - all without compromising the signature sound of the TR-808 snare drum.

The SD808 sounds tight and extremely snappy because it's analog - the real thing, not samples. The sound is made with three analog sound generators mixed together: two oscillating sine waves and a noise source. The SD808's front panel controls have a lot of sweet spots with sounds that are not just limited to snare drum sounds; it can also create other electronic percussive elements.

The noise source generator in the original TR-808 machines were revised in later production batches, resulting in variations in sound across the production run. The SD808 uses this later, revised circuit to create a snare drum hit that is slightly darker, has more body, and is more realistic. Just like other drums in this series, the SD808 includes a high-powered output gain stage capable of producing signals up to 20Vpp, allowing you to get an array of harmonized snare drums sounds with even tighter attacks. On the inputs, we have designed a dual-input pulse-shaper circuit so you can trigger the SD808 with Trigger/Gate signals from step sequencers, clock dividers, or any other pulse/clock sources. This eliminates the need to shape pulses sent to the module and ensures the same stable sound at peak power, regardless of your pulse source. All these unique features make integrating this legendary sound generator into your modular synth easy, unleashing the power of real analog drums.

FX expansion card bundle for ZDSP digital effects processor
Notes: The Time Domain Bundle is all about rich delay effects. The package consists of three Z-DSP cards with eight algorithms each. Modulated Delays specializes in animated echo programs, which can be used to create, for instance, diffusion, chorus or pan effects. Hydra provides multi-tap algorithms. These can be used to generate rhythmical delays. Spiral combines a pitch shifter and a multi-tap echo to create atmospheric to slightly psychedelic effects.

Mod Delay:

Modulated Delays brings various forms of animation to the delay lines. These types of algorithms further extend the signal path of delay effects with extra processing and routing of the audio signal. The sonic results put the Mod Delay effects in a category of their own.

Each program adds different processing like diffusion, chorus, panning and other modulation to the basic mono or dual delay line structure. The two Modulator programs are intended for use with external CV - opening up vast modulation possibilities of the modular synthesiser. Each card comes loaded with 8 presets.

Hydra:

Hydra is the multi-armed DSP creature tapping its tentacles into a buffered delay line and creating a range of multi-tap delay rhythmic and spatial effects. The Spread parameter sweeping through rhythmic variations allowing some of the programs bridge the gap between single delays and reverbs by using diffusion while others use taps to create rhythmic patterns.

The basic Hydra algorithm sums the inputs to mono and writes the signal to a single delay line. Multiple output taps are taken from the delay line and spread across the stereo outputs. Each program adds additional features like panning, filtering, pitch shifting and/or diffusion to create a unique Z-DSP Hydra experience. The last two programs add external Clock input for more precise sync to the beat.

Spirals:

Spirals is a pitch and multi-tap delay card for the Z-DSP. This card uses numerous multi-tap delay techniques in combination with dual pitch shifters to create a wide range of harmonizing choruses, echo and harmonic reverb sounds. Programs on this card derive from the complex algorithms found on high-end studio effects processors, which, while powerful, have a complex editing process. On the Z-DSP all of the power of the internal code is controlled by three simple adjustments for sculpting the sound - making the experience more about performance and live tweaking rather than navigating through dozens of menu pages.

Trigger sequencer
Notes: From a conceptual view, the Trigger Riot generates 16 clock streams consisting of multiple time manipulation functions (division, offsets, etc) that interact to create the trigger output, and direct access to each parameter via individual knobs allows for quick manipulation. The 8 outputs are the sum of those manipulated streams per row. The outputs of the module are arranged as either a 4x4 matrix, where each of the 16 knobs affects both row and column, or as a set of independent outputs for each row or column. This allows forming 8 complex musical interactions in a 'Matrix' mode or 8 independent streams in 'Independent' mode and is switchable from one to the other on press of a button for some unexpected results.

Since each of the 16 knobs represents a real time tweakable trigger generator/modifier the Trigger Riot is extremely playable and can result very complex patterns with only few knob turns; patterns that would otherwise take much longer and in some instances be almost impossible to produce using grid based step sequencing. Patterns can have unique time signatures that can repeat or be randomized through probability, time shifted and phased, divided, multiplied and counted, it's unbelievable how complex this module can get with minimal input.

There are 6 reverb algorithms in the Z-DSP Shimmer cart, arranged in order of complexity:
- Fast Shimmer: A modulated reverb that quickly decays away into an endlessly pitch shifting tail. The shift interval can be set between +/- 12 semitones. Perfect for that classic "octave up" shimmer sound.
- Slow Shimmer: Similar to Fast Shimmer, but with a much slower attack.

- ClusterVerb: Four pitch shifted voices embedded within the feedback network of a modulated reverb. The result quickly becomes dissonant or metallic. Perfect for insta-Ligeti, or Penderecki In A Box.

In addition, the Z-DSP Shimmer cart features 2 special effects algorithms:
- Quad Detune: 4 short pitch shifted delays, feeding back on each other. A variety of chorus, detuned, and dissonant effects can be obtained through this mode. Turn up the Feedback for maximum fun.
- PitchEcho: A single pitch shifting voice, combined with a tape echo emulation = sound mangling joy. Turn up the feedback for barberpole self-oscillation, and sweep the decay time for all sorts of swoopy glitches.

8HP voltage-controlled ADSR envelope with CV processor - 'New Style'
Notes: The Z4000 NS is a snappy voltage-controlled analogue envelope generator with a built-in CV processor for scaling, inverting, and voltage-controlled deviating of the envelope shape. The Z4000 generates an envelope made of the four classic segments: Attack, Decay, Sustain and Release, in which each segment can be manually set using knobs or dynamically set under voltage control.

Control knobs for the Attack, Decay, and Release segments are scaled. The first 0-50% of the knobs rotation is dedicated to high resolution adjustment in the millisecond range.

The output levels are fully adjustable with signals that can reach up to 10V in either polarity and can be mirrored into the opposite polarity or clipped using the voltage-controlled deviater-scaler. A bi-colour LED indicates intermediate values in both polarities and their crossfade state.

The Attack slope switch allows selection of a logarithmic or exponential curve for the Attack segment. This subtle effect helps further the fine adjustment of the Attack segment slope. A Shoot button is provided to let you fire the envelope manually. The Z4000 also provides a retrigger input allowing you to create legato notes when using a classic keyboard interface.

These sounds were selected for their percussive transient response but are also great as monophonic sound sources to use alongside analog synth when sequenced. DOTS are samples of the signature sounds of Buchla, Cwejman, Mutable Instruments, Jomox, Mungo, Industrial Music Electronics (aka The Harvestman), HexInverter, Make Noise, Monomachine, Vermona, Audio Damage. Multi-functional quantizer module - 8HP
Notes: The Quantimator is a multifunctional quantizer concept designed to derive a trio of interrelated and musically useful control-voltages from a single control source. There are 2 distinct modes of operation- a CHORD mode and a SCALE mode.

In "Chord Mode", a control source (sequencer, etc.) is quantized to the nearest semitone value [1/12V] within a 5-octave range; 2 other control values are generated, according to chord-type, to form a 'chord' (available at outs 2 and 3) when used with multiple 1V/OCT VCOs. The HOLD input will cause the outputs to hold their value when high- Triggers received in this state will "rotate" the outputs arpeggio style! there are 32 chord types available in any key.

In "scale mode" an input is quantized according to the selected scale. Values are passed down the line ["Analog" Shift Register style] with each trigger (1 to 2, 2 to 3) when HOLD is initiated, no new values are acquired and the data in memory will be continually looped to the 3 outputs with each trigger. There are 32 scales available in 2 banks of 16. Bank and mode are indicated in the 7-segment LEDs decimal places.

Stereo mixer with 4 fully-featured input channels
Notes: Clean stereo mixer with four full-fledged channels, each with a pre/post selectable aux send, popless mute/solo as well as voltage control of panorama, level and aux send amount.

The module has a loud headphone output which emits either a monitor mix or a cue mix with a wide range of applications. The aux return is stereo and has level control; the panorama circuitry has a compensated "constant power" law.

- Master volume control and dual 5-segment VU metering.
- Efficient design. Relatively low power consumption and very low-noise/ low distortion audio path. Audio AC coupled through low-distortion "audio grade" film capacitors and a very low-noise opamp.

Revision 1.1 offers improved LED response and the pan law is closer to the ideal. Furthermore, the HP amp is even louder than before. The most noticeable thing, however, is a new channel expansion header on the circuit board.

Triple wave folder module containing 3 independent voltage controlled wave multipliers
Notes: The TWF module was designed with multi-use in mind. It is composed of three identical (with the exception of a couple features) direct-coupled waveshaping stages that can be used independently or in series. The operation is selected according to which inputs are used.

The facility for independent control over each folding stage provides multiple processing options for a variety of sources as well as more interesting explorations with timbre modulations/frequency synthesis.

Each stage can gently fold an input source inward on itself as it approaches a threshold set by the panel controls and CV. For example, a sawtooth or a triangle input from a VCO can be bent into a sinewave, and beyond that, doubled in frequency at constant amplitude. Use them in series and they will continue to fold.

Here are a few things that you can do with it, under voltage control:

Create complex timbres from audio sources. The possibilities are really limitless. You can control each series of harmonics via the BIAS panel controls. So the overall sweep through the folds when using the VC ALL/MANUAL controls is very flexible and since each stage of the folding process is VC'able, you can use different modulation sources simultaneously for wild animation/phasing/beating with a single tone source.

The normalized DC bias at input 1B can be used to control the symmetry of the folding process, via the control knob (when the input is not in use).

CV Processor for LFOs, envelope generators, sequencers or any control source. Create multiple interesting rhythmic modulation sources from an otherwise dull one. Useful in creating more complex, continuously variable shapes for modulation or timing.

Accurately multiply/square up an input signal. Shape your triangles and sawtooths into very pure sinewaves. Mangle your sinewaves or anything else into asymmetrical fuzz. Generate a cosine function relative to your VCO's triangle/sine output (useful for quad panning, stereo modulation). You can do a couple of these things at the same time with different sources.

Powerful, hand-wired tube distortion module featuring American military grade low-noise tubes
Notes: Strakal Orsel is a powerful, hand-wired tube distortion module. As known from other Touell Skouarn circuits, all sockets and control elements have Breton names. (Except for the audio input and output, which are marked with arrows.)

Triodenn (switch) - Here, you can choose between pentode and triode operation for the left tube. Thus, this switch varies the basic sound character.

Boukl Retroaktin (switch/knob) - The switch activates the feedback path. With the potentiometer, you can vary the feedback intensity. High values lead to screaming self-oscillation. At low settings, signals are nicely thickened.

Gounid (knob) - This potentiometer is used for determining the level between the first and the second tube stage.

Ampled (knob) - For setting the degree of distortion. How hardcore would you like your sound to be?

Enklas Modulan (socket) - CV input for influencing the feedback respectively volume. (It works even without the feedback being active.)

Without an input signal, but with wide open feedback, the Strakal Orsel can be used as a beefy effect oscillator. Using its CV input, the pitch can be varied. There is no accurate pitch tracking according to the standard 1 v/octave, though. Notes: The Twisted Electrons Cells features 16 touch-sensitive pads including integral LED lights to give visual feedback on which pads are activated. The Eurorack style module can be fed up to two 12-bit values (semi-tone quantized or free scale) ranging from 0 to 5 volts. Operation Overview:

Feed It:

- So long as a tune button is held, the output is automatically changed as you move the knob
- Release the button, pitch information is stored to Eeprom

You can toggle between free scaling and semi-tone increment modes by pressing both tune buttons simultaneously.

Play it:
- Press a pad to trigger both gate and CV outputs
- Hold 2 or more pads and Cells will arpeggiate, the rate can now be changed with the left knob. The right knob changes the octave range.

Sequence it:
- Sequence the cells using the 2 trigger inputs. The left input shifts up a row and the right input shifts right by one column
- The gate outputs mirror the trigger inputs.

A three-channel mixer with dedicated level potentiometers adds analogue character to signals before they are fed to the delay circuits. Without patch cables plucked into the second and / or third input, you can use these channels as feedback paths with additional effects. In detail, a pitch shifter calibrated to +1 octave (channel 2) and a reverb (channel 3) are available. - A perfect setup for creating shimmering echoes and other atmospheric effects. High feedback values make the module self-oscillate. In contrast to the multi-tap delay, which consists of individual components, an FV-1 chip is used for pitch shifting and reverberation. This processor is well-known, as it is the main component of multi-effects modules like the Erica Black Hole DSP and numerous guitar pedals. Here, the FV-1 is "just" a creative addition to the main effect.

Most of the features, like the AccuBell spring tank (type 9), the TONE control as well as in and output stages are equal.

What has been improved is the way EFFECT STOP is working. Compared to its predecessor VSR 3.2 offers the possibility to determine where EFFECT STOP cuts the signal path: PRE or POST the spring tank. Notes: The D-ENV is a 10hp Eurorack Envelope Generator with the addition of Delay and Hold functions for gates. As a "utility-effect" of sorts, it allows for delayed dynamics, which can provide more spacial or dimensional sounds within many configurations, including drum beat delays, or part of an echoic soundscape. Exponential envelope generator (ADSR/AR) with independent delayed gate/trigger processing (up to 1 second), and delay-hold (up to 1 second).

Notes: The VCF-74 is a 14HP voltage controlled filter in Eurorack format. VCF-74 features a dual analogue high-pass and low-pass filter, cascaded (series, from HP > LP). The discrete diode filter circuit is inspired by the 1970s Univox Mini-Korg synthesizer's "Traveller" filter section which provides warm, organic sound to your modular system. However, this design was not only adapted for Eurorack, but is feature enhanced for a wide array of possible filter characteristics.

A stage boost switch allows you to drive the 2nd filter section (Low-Pass) with a +5.3dB signal boost from the High-Pass output signal creating a warm saturation and varied resonance to signal ratio/dynamics. Independent manual resonance controls per filter section allows you to fine-tune a wide variety of focused sound. Input and Output level controls allow you to optimize dynamic range, including how hard you drive the filter--which drastically changes the dynamic interplay between signal and harmonic resonance. Both High-Pass and Low-Pass circuits have independent cutoff controls. Independent CV inputs for cutoff and resonance of each filter section, and attenuation/gain for CV to cutoff provide superior control over filter behaviour. The VCF-74 can be set up as a Low-Pass, High-Pass, or Band-Pass filter. Width of the Band-Pass can be adjusted by simply dialling in the offset controls appropriately.

What are the changes for the new MK2 version of VCF-74?

- The faceplate will look exactly the same, except the addition of "MK2" nomenclature screen printed
- The audio signal path will have slightly lower frequency response as a result of component value changes
- The audio signal path will now use fewer coupling capacitors (more direct-coupled circuits mean better performance, less slewing).
