Eurorack module based around The Gristleizer
Notes: The Gristleizer Pre-Amplifier is a new addition to the existing circuity of Roy Gwinn's "Guitar Effects Pedal" design. After Chris Carter's suggestion of a guitar pre-amplifier for use with the rest of the Gristleizer series, the TG5 came into being. Based upon Jonny Reckless' FET-based discrete amplifier circuitry, Roy Gwinn has designed a pre-amplifier with a high quality VCA back-end which allows for any external audio source to become fully integrated into a Eurorack system.

The Guitar or Line input is firstly fed through one FET stage of the pre-amplifier, and then into a super-clean THAT VCA, the direct output of which is available at the Clean output. This source is then fed through two more FET amplification stages and a tone section (featuring the typical Bass, Mid and Treble controls found on many guitar amps) to the Master output. Bite and Boost controls allow for further control over the tone of the input signal.

An RMS detector (found as part of the THAT VCA) is employed as an envelope follower, as well as a gate detector. The Sensitivity control allows the user to set how the RMS detector reacts to the incoming signal's level. Access to the THAT VCA's Gain control input allows the two Envelope outputs to be used as control sources for the pre-amplifier itself, turning the module into a dynamic compressor (Inverted Envelope) or expander (Normal Envelope).

Notes: Argos Bleak is a control voltage processor and oscillator driver with two inputs and four (count 'em, four) outputs. Its per-channel octave, detune, vibrato, and slew controls facilitate full performance control of four oscillators at once, with minimum patch cords required. It excels at bringing multiple oscillators from different manufacturers into full cooperation, with the flexibility to quickly switch between multiple performance setups. Processed control voltages are quantized to the scale of your choice, with the slew limiting able to be routed pre- or post-quantizer. A common vibrato control distributes the internal modulation signal to any of the outputs. A set of performance gate inputs allow instant modification of the fundamental channel settings (input selection/mixing, slew enable, quantizer track-and-hold), and a quantizer trigger output automatically fires when channel 1 quantizes a new note. Each channel may receive its data from either (or a sum or difference) of the CV inputs, so you may run two completely independent CV processing streams, or combine the input data and switch it around using the external gate input.

Each output may be offset (positive or negative) by up to 12 semitones. These semitone shifts occur pre-quantizer, effectively enabling chord construction from a single monophonic CV input. 2 banks of 16 chord presets may be stored, and instantly switched or sequenced by an external cv signal. A bonus CV mode rotates the output semitone shift data among all 4 outputs.

Argos Bleak satisfies many common performance situations that require a series of oscillators to respond to tuned control voltages. CV sequences are easily and precisely transposed. FM carrier/modulator ratios are quickly and effortlessly defined, and changed with the dedicated octave knobs and chord selection. Dedicate an output to managing oscillator sync frequency, apply vibrato, and your modular system is suddenly playing pinch harmonics. The calibration routine is simple, and your attached oscillators can be easily calibrated to each other by ear using the channel controls.

Notes: The Piston Honda Mark III is a dual morphing wavetable oscillator with waveshaping audio inputs and unison detune. The three sliders create a waveform for each oscillator to play from the internal "cube" of 16-bit waveforms (8 waveforms across each axis for a total of 512), morphed at full resolution in all three dimensions with full CV control of each dimension (positive and negative voltages accepted). Each of the oscillators may play a different morphed waveform, with selectable response to the slider controls and CV inputs. The voltage-controlled preset manager stores 8 presets to be recalled at any time, under manual or CV control. The preset manager has a morphing mode that smoothly fades from one preset to another, selectable for "just" the waveform settings, or all knobs on the panel. An orange 128x32 OLED display shows the current waveform for the selected oscillator in realtime, its frequency, and the current preset and wave selection. It also provides menu editing for less frequently used parameters with the nearby rotary encoder.

The infamous aggressive character of the Piston Honda is fully present. Both oscillators boast full user controls for frequency and modulation. The second oscillator's frequency controls can be slaved to the first (and an output mix is provided for the largest sounds possible with the fewest patch cords). Each oscillator also has its own slaved unison detune oscillator. Each oscillator can alternatively run as a nonlinear waveshaper, processing a dedicated audio input through the selected wavetable with voltage-controlled drive. When running in its normal oscillator mode, this audio input instead provides thru-zero frequency modulation. Waveforms are selected from the internal memory of 8 collections: additive harmonic structures, harsh LFSR progressions, and restored waveforms inspired by classic synthesizers. You can load user wave data (16-bit WAV format) using the front-panel microSD card slot, compatible with files created by the Synthesis Technology WaveEdit program.

Envelope generator & high-quality audio VCA - 14HP
Notes: A combination module of two essential building blocks from the classic Polivoks synthesizer: the envelope generator and a high-quality audio VCA. The envelope features the four traditional ADSR parameters, as well as additional controls for manual trigger, extended time range, envelope repeat, and a delay function for the attack and release phases. The VCA has several attenuated modulation inputs and a manual "drone" level control. The output of the envelope is normalled to the VCA control input, for compact and convenient integration into the end of a subtractive synthesizer patch with a minimum amount of patch cables required.

Note that the original Polivoks keyboard design includes two VCAs in series for independent control of the keyboard envelope and amplitude modulation. You would need two of these modules to completely recreate the functional specification of the original.

This device is part of the IRON CURTAIN ELECTRONICS system and is created in collaboration with Vladimir Kuzmin, the designer of the original POLIVOKS synthesizer. The module uses original USSR integrated circuits in the differential amplifier section of the VCA circuit to preserve the character of the Polivoks design.

Three all-analogue oscillators, each with linear FM & sync inputs
Notes: When one oscillator isn't enough and two oscillators still aren't enough. Three is just right!

The Troika is an arrangement of three all analogue oscillators which can function completely independently or together via parallel pitch tracking utilizing cascading 1V/octave CV normal connections.

The foundations for many powerful subtractive synth voices often use multiple oscillators. Detuning these slightly from one another gives the timbral richness which helped define the original synthesizers of the 60s and 70s.

The Troika was designed to simplify the patching of layered voices in this manner with the benefit of having three voices with matched components and calibration for consistent pitch tracking.

The oscillators each have linear FM inputs with attenuators as well as oscillator sync inputs. This allows for FM operator configurations with first order and even second order modulation on a single module.

Sine, triangle, sawtooth and square waveforms are generated from each oscillator voice, with exception to oscillator three, which lacks triangle but gains CV controllable pulse-width modulation over its square wave.

The waveform control section of the troika utilizes switching between sliding potentiometers which allow for crossfading between the simple waveforms. The arrangement of the waveforms between the three oscillators allows for linear crossfading between any two basic waveforms.

Dual oscillator subtractive synth voice module, 40HP wide
Notes: The Atlantis is heavily inspired by the architecture and sound of the classic Roland SH-101. It has always been one of our favorite synths and we really liked how the seemingly limited architecture allowed for all sorts of creative and musically useful sounds to be easily generated.

Just like the 101 it is quick to dial in beautifully rich bass and lead sounds. However this module uses triangle core VCOs (based on the Dixie core) instead of Saw core which respond much more musically to FM. The modulation oscillator can be used as an LFO or VCO (audio rate) and both track very precisely over 8 or more octaves.

In the mixer section you can adjust the balance of the primary oscillators waveforms including a sinewave which is normalled to the EXT IN jack. You could also patch in one of the modulation oscillators waveforms into this channel and be able to operate the Atlantis as a proper two oscillator synth. There is a switch labelled "LINK" which enables the modulation vco pitch to be based as an offset of the primary VCO. This is useful when using it as a stacked dual vco or when you have the mod VCO acting as the linear FM source for the primary vco and wish to maintain the ratio.

The filter section is a Roland style cascaded 4 pole multimode filter with LP, BP and HP modes. The LP Boost switch engages a special mode useful for the LP that produces a much fatter and prominent sound that is not drowned out by resonance (unlike the original SH-101). The filter self-oscillates to produce a very clean sine wave which also tracks 1V/Oct. Between the Mod VCO, Primary VCO, Sub Oscillator and resonating filter it is possible to layer up to four different pitches at one time.

The envelope section is an ADSR with a dual range switch. It also can be set to a looping mode which can be gated on/off externally.

The output VCA feeds into a two level output clipping circuit that you can use to get a much ballsier/dirtier sound.

Dual complex morphable wavetable VCO eurorack synth module
Notes: Cylonix and Intellijel have collaborated to bring you a very sophisticated and deeply complex Wavetable VCO. At the core of this module is very powerful FPGA board that he has pushed to the absolute max of its capabilities and crammed full of features. We wanted to create a module that really worked well in the modular context so there are a lot of modulation and control possibilities.

CHORDS
Oscillator 1 can be operated in a CHORD mode, which runs 8 copies of the oscillator in parallel with adjustable detuning, leading to very fat, rich waveforms. The oscillators have extensive modulation capabilities including audio rate (98KHz) Frequency and Phase Modulation (FM and PM) via external sources. Nonlinear combination processes allow the outputs of the two oscillators to interact to generate complex timbres and sonic textures.
There are 64 user selectable chords.

WAVEFOLDER
The SHAPESHIFTER module also includes the analog wave folder circuitry from
module to add analog warmth and metallic rasps to the digital oscillator output.
External signals can also be patched in.

PRESETS
The module includes a sophisticated preset mode where panel settings can be stored. There are 12 user-programmable preset slots and another 52 volatile slots that can be used as a scratchpad. These scratchpad slots are initialized to interesting presets on module powerup. The capabilities of the preset mode is not limited to mere passive storage of settings, however. In this mode the user can also step through, or sequence, the settings, either in order or randomly in response to pulses input to the external sync input. This gives the user the ability to generate complex sequences of sounds. The preset mode also allows the user to morph between the current panel settings and a preset providing a very powerful real-time performance tool.

Voice allocator, note hocketing & analog shift register module - 6HP
Notes: The Shifty is essentially a combination of four sample and hold stages, a sequential gate and sequencer controller. This collection of functions allows for some specific and useful utility application.

One of the primary uses for Shifty is to take a monophonic sequence source and route each new note of the sequence to up to four different synthesizer voices in a specific pattern. In this way you can create pseudo polyphonic sequences since each voice can be triggered to play and sustain while the next voice int the sequence gets triggered. Another term for this is hocketing.

The other main application of the Shifty is to function as an Analog Shift Register. In this mode each new gate input received causes the current set of pitches to be shifted to new output locations as a new one is added and the oldest one is replaced. This can be an interesting way to create chords that are up to four stacked notes when used with a pitch sequence source that has a harmonious series of notes (e.g. a pentatonic scale works really well). Even just using two of the outputs will yield very interesting melodic interplay and is an excellent way to make a simple sequence much more complex and interesting.

In a more basic way the Shifty could be used as a simple Sample/Track and Hold module or as a sequential gate.

For the Intellijel Springray II, each tank has a totally different set of characteristics, with many unexpected surprises when feeding it through a wide variety of sound sources. One of the most interesting results is how a slow attack saw waveform from a Dixie almost sounds like a realistic cello!

Version two of the Springray provides a number of changes and improvements to the original design. The shelving EQs have been replaced with a parametric EQ with frequency, Q, and gain controls. The CV inputs for feedback and mix balance have been replaced with inputs to control the filter frequency and gain. Lastly, the feedback and limiter circuits have been redesigned, and the drive quality has been improved.

Physical modelling percussion synthesiser module - 12HP
Notes: Plonk uses a technique known as physical modelling to synthesize, with great realism, the way in which sound is produced by acoustic instruments. The Plonk module is, itself, focused primarily on creating percussive sounds - both pitched and un-pitched; natural and unnatural; acoustic-sounding or totally electronic.

Plonk does this by breaking sound creation into two distinct elements - the exciter and the resonator. The exciter is a mathematical model of the device used to strike a particular surface. Plonk, because it's percussion oriented, has two types of exciters: one modelled on a mallet, and the other providing a noise source. The resonator is a virtualization of the object being struck, which vibrates, resonates and creates the body of a sound. Plonk offers several types of resonators: beam; marimba; drumhead; membrane; plate; and string.

Plonk provides numerous parameters that let you shape, mould and design both the exciter and the resonator, thus enabling you to synthesize the sound of striking or scraping almost any type of object - real or imagined. In this way, Plonk can accurately model the sounds of kicks, snares, toms, cymbals, claps, tablas, congas and all manner of traditional percussion instruments. It can also model pitched percussive instruments, like vibes, marimbas, and even bass or guitar-like tones. Of course, it additionally excels at modelling instruments that heretofore never existed.

Best of all, the sounds created by Plonk are not static - any sound you design can respond dynamically to velocity, as well as four different modulation inputs. This means the sound of Plonk can change completely from note-to-note (or strike-to-strike). Because of this, Plonk is actually a duophonic (2-voice) module, which lets the sound of one note decay naturally when a second note (possibly employing an entirely different set of modelling values) is struck. Thus, hitting a new note does not choke the sound of the previously struck note (unless you want it to, of course)!

Plonk stores up to 128 patches in its internal memory, and ships with many presets programmed by professional sound designers and composers. You may overwrite these patches if you wish, and banks of patches may be transferred via MIDI System Exclusive over Plonk's built-in mini-USB port to facilitate offline storage by programs or websites that support this capability.

Plonk was developed in cooperation with Montreal-based Applied Acoustics Systems - physical modelling pioneers, and the creators of Tassman, Lounge Lizard, String Studio, Ultra Analog, Chromaphone and numerous other plugins. Stereo rhythmic delay & stereo comb resonator synth module in Eurorack format - 36 HP wide
Notes: The Intellijel/Cylonix RAINMAKER eurorack-format module provides a high-quality (96KHz sampling rate with 32-bit internal processing) stereo rhythmic delay and stereo comb resonator effect.

The stereo rhythm delay has 16 taps, each with its own resonant 2nd-order filter and granular pitch shifter. The filters have independently adjustable resonance and cutoff frequency, and can be set to either lowpass, bandpass, highpass or bypass operation. The filters are also capable of self-oscillation, enabling modal synthesis techniques. The granular pitch shifters have a range of 15 semitones up or 16 semitones down. Each tap can repeat at a rate value set in tap#'s in order to create regenerating echo effects. The feedback signal has a lowpass/highpass tone control and its own pitch shifter. The tap delay times can range from 0.1 millisecond up to a maximum of 20 seconds. The overall delay times can be set with the rotary encoder, the tap tempo button, or synced to an external clock.

The stereo comb resonator section has 64 time-delayed taps which are summed together. This produces a deep comb filter or resonating effect. At large comb sizes (long time delays) a multiple echo effect is produced. The density of the resonator can be varied from 2 to 64 taps. The tap with the longest delay time is fed back to the input. High feedback levels, with short comb sizes, produce "Karplus-Strong" types of plucked string sounds. The relative timing of the 64 taps are set according to one of 16 different preset patterns, which provide different resonator timbres or echo rhythms. The comb size can be set either with the rotary encoder, an external clock or through a transposable 1v/oct input voltage.

The Rainmaker module has extensive voltage control capabilities. Direct voltage control is available for the delay feedback level and tone, the global pitch shift for all delay taps, the comb resonator size, and comb feedback level. There are two assignable modulation inputs, which can be assigned to different parameters in each preset. A trigger input with assignable functionality can trigger built-in types of noise bursts, freeze the delay buffer, reverse the delay, randomize parameters, mute taps, and much more.

Bass drum synth module
Notes: We are happy to introduce our new Jomox 19" euro rack module series.

In the 19" euro rack market we also want to keep our concept of storeable analog sound production because it offers just too many advantages.
In order to achieve this, we had to develop a complete new analog control system for our circuitries inside these modules.

We'd like to make these euro rack products interesting for both live drummers and modular people. Therefore, a CV/Gate control and trigger inputs for drumpad pickups are available.
For regular modular use, analog routable CV inputs and an analog output are accessible via 3.5mm jacks. The Gate can be configured as 0-5V (0-15V is accepted too), inversed or s-trigger.

Everything is storeable and can be recalled via encoder klick from 100 presets. But for the analog feel of modular, eight potentiometers give you the fine and precise editing of the most important parameters without stepping through menus.
E-Drummers can create complete E-drum setups, because there is an internal Jomox analog connection bus with a fast digital link which can do a submix and an FX send mix from each module hooked up to the bus.
With this system bus you won't need to use the audio outputs but instead you have a programmable bus system that can link to future master, sequencer and mixing or effects modules - which can take control over the single modules.
This makes the whole modular setup recallable and storeable from a center module like a drum machine.

Also, to link the ModBase modules to our other products, they all have a Midi interface on the rear that can be wired within the rack case and being cascaded from one module to another.
The menu selection is paged by two-colored LEDs for both sides of the menu.
Two internal LFOs which both control the tuning of the kick drum VCO expand the sound spectrum once more.

All analog parameters are either storeable and controllable via Midi. The Midi notes control the pitch of the kick drum VCO.

Too, the modules are controllable via CV/Gate and via trigger pads for live drummers. With the trigger input, the threshold and velocity dependend dynamics can be adjusted.

Four routable CV inputs let all internal sound parameters (incl. LFOs and metallic noise) be controlled by CV sequencers. Every CV input provides an own programmable amount which can be negative too (i.e. subtracting the CV value from the internal value). The range goes from 0..5V.

Eurorack complex time-woven filter matrix
Notes: The T-Rackonizer transforms timely events into an analog feedbacked filter network.

The T-Rackonizer is the eurorack successor of our very sucessful T-Resonator which did very well over the past 7 years. It has been the least possible implementation of the former experimental filter network synthesizer called „Resonator Neuronium". The number of 6 nodes had been reduced to only two filter nodes - but still this structure offers a tremendous variety of sounds. The module contains 2 analog T-ladder moog-like filters and a digital delay. Not only can these two filters being controlled by cutoff and resonance - they can be feedbacked negatively or positively to itself or even across the partner filter by the mix knobs. Also they can be feedbacked across a digital delay/reverb chip which is literally woven into the signal path.

On the T-Rackonizer, the feedback and cutoff controls can be CV-controlled. Once you insert a CV cable into the CV jacks, the corresponding internal control knob (e. g. Cutoff) acts as an amount to the external CV. Without CV input, the control knobs work across the internal range. The filters are made from discreete parts and form a 24 dB pole lowpass filter transistor cascade. You can select 8 different algorithms, each with different delays, wave guides or structures and different feedbacks and modulate them even with an LFO.

Delays reach from less than a millisecond to 1 second, range and structure is depending on the algorithm. These capabilities let you create evolving analog tape echoes, "klingon parties" by extremely feedbacked wave guide algorithm and much more. By the analog feedback everything sounds organic. The screaming analog feedbacks can delay themselves and thereby form new sound patterns. The sine LFO gets retriggered by the audio signal and can be shaped with the audio envelope or just run alone. In center position the amount is 0, to the left it's envelope-shaped LFO, to the right it's only LFO.

Incredible bass gains or screaming scratch sounds are no problem. Positive feedbacks create distorting bass enhancements or low feedback tones without applying a signal. The mix pots are zeroed in center position; any other angle will couple or feedback negatively or positively. The external CV inputs work from 0 to 5 volts. At maximum amount (corresponding control knob open fully clockwise), a voltage of 2.5 volts represents the center position of the control. This is very useful for usage with most of the external CV sequencers available. The input has an adjustable gain and a Hi-Z input to plug in a guitar directly. Any line level signal can be processed, be it either mono or stereo.

The Field Kit boasts 7 separate functional blocks all focussed on receiving or generating all types of signals. They are designed to operate together as a coherent electroacoustic workstation or alternatively together with other pieces of music electronics with the ability to use control voltage signals.

The Four Channel Mixer is the beating heart of the Field Kit, providing a fully functional mixer with individual Gain, Mix Level and Tone control over each channel and individual Master- and Aux sub-mixes.

The level of the Master and Aux Channels can be set with the Master Volume and Aux Volume controls and the channels being sent to the Aux sub-mix can be set with dedicated Aux Select-buttons. The Aux sub-mix is pre-fader.

The CV Radio is a CV-controllable radio receiver capable of receiving radio frequencies on AM/FM and SW bands. Additionally it provides the ability to catch electromagnetic waves for further processing inside the Field Kit. The frequency of the radio can be set with a dedicated multifunctional Search-control which acts both as a manual CV-source and as an input attenuator for a CV-signal.

The Envelope Follower in the Field Kit applies two functions to the waveform you send to the input: full-wave rectification (mirroring of negative portions of the waveform) and low-pass filtering (averaging). It can also be used for frequency doubling of a signal, which is a great tool to have in the electroacoustic domain.

The Low Frequency Oscillator generates periodically varying voltages to be used as control signals. The output waveform can be set with a three-position Waveform-control and gives out either a Square-, Triangle- or a mix of Square and Triangle waveforms.

A very cool function of the Field Kit is the DC Interface. You can use its output voltages to run little motors, fans, solenoids, buzzers and control them with control voltage signals. You can pick up the vibrations and electromagnetic waves with the contact microphones and electromagnetic pickup.

The Signal Interface is a nifty toolset to transform the raw signals of a wide variety of sensors and switches into signals that can be used with the Field Kit or other gear. This means you can trigger or control sound by light, heat, humidity, distance, speed, acceleration, proximity, pressure, force, level, all depending on what type of switch or sensor you are using!
